I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Karzen and her team . I have been coming here for about 5 years after my co worker/ close friend recommended this office . I enrolled my husband here some months ago and will be hopefully getting my parents enrolled as well . Dr. Katie Karzen is not just skilled at what she does but she is kind , professional , down to earth and so friendly . She has taken care of my cavities and has recently done an excellent job in the cosmetic arena by skillfully and esthetically applying resin bonding to a few teeth that needed a lil extra help . I used to go here but stopped coming. They try to upsell various products of things "you need".... mouth guard at night, special prescription toothpaste, etc... Although the cleaning is done very well, I switched dentist because it was too far for me to drive but also because I pay for a dentist visit and ended up with the assistant the entire time. I left with a dentist bill and no one communicated to me that I would not see Dr. Karzen for my final check up. Very disappointed. I found an excellent dentist and they are closer to me. read more

I have been going to Dr. Karzen for about 4 years now and have been 100% happy with my care. The staff is friendly, the office is clean, Dr. Karzen is great, and I love watching TV during my cleanings. I actually feel that the health of my teeth has improved since I switched! I always love going to the dentist since I was a little girl. It was my first experience with this doctor and I have to say, it is definitely my last. I go in and I am greeted nicely, but as soon as I got on the dental chair, that is when it started to become more and more uncomfortable. The dental assistant took X-rays of my mouth. Yeah... sounds pretty normal, except the fact she had really no idea what she was doing. Apparently they just got new technology or a computer program for X-rays. This lady was not ready to take pictures of my mouth. She took at least 10 or more pictures until she was able to get it right. Should have taken 5 at the most! That is way too much radiation exposition to my face! Afterwards, the dental hygienist came in and cleaned my teeth. She did an OK job and she was sweet, but I know it could have been better. Dr. Karzen then comes in and checks out my teeth for cavities. I haven't had a check up or deep cleaning in a bit over a year and I am known to get cavities. So of course I only get 2 cavities and schedule an appointment to get them taken care of. (I honestly felt like I had more) I go in and ready for the procedure. Dr. Karzen and her assistant (the same one that took my X-rays) took about 30 mins in total for the 2 cavities. But I was kinda uncomfortable because I felt a tension between the two. Maybe that is just me. But now where I filled my two cavities, I always get food stuck in it, whereas before it never happened. Yeah I am cavity free but I would go back and have a better experience with another dentist. Anyone have any suggestions? Let me know. read more

I had a great experience and all the staff are very professional and greets every patient with a warm, personal greeting. My first time going there felt like I've known them for a while as I felt really welcome. The office itself has a clean ambience feel to it. Dr. Karzen was very helpful and patient - she takes her time to explain all the procedures that needs to be done. You can also tell that they really care for my teeth and the doctor does not recommend unnecessary procedures to be done on my teeth. I have had the good fortune of having doctor Karzen as my dentist for the past 19 years. First in Brentwood and now the office at 16500 Ventura Blvd, Encino. I suffer from dry mouth and have had dental problems from a very early age. Unfortunately I have had a huge fear of the dentist. The reason why I appreciate Dr. Karzen and her staff is because they treated me with care and respect when I shared my fears with them. At the time I was a senior in college and they talked me through my entire procedure, the tools, and the shots. I was very apologetic and Merna reassured me I need not be. This is why I can say I am not and have not been afraid of the dentist since. Dr. Karzen has performed many procedures on my teeth including a bridge, two root canals and crowns. I was inspired to write a review today about Dr. Karzen and her staff after my visit with Maggie the dental hygienist. Maggie is successfully helping me through a very painful gum infection. Not only did Dr. Karzen come in and take a look at me but so did Merna and the office manager Josie. It just reminded me of how caring they are and what a family setting they provide. I went to this office about 3 months ago and I will stay here I agree with kathryn's review at first is hard because if you had'nt had good care of your teeth and you finally find a good office that is willing to care for you and tell you exactly what you need. I also use to go there ...She does not stand behind work done in her dental office. I had been going there for aproximately 5 years spent thousands of dollars.Then about 2 years ago I had a crown done (I had them done before) and it felt different I had asked her if she changed labs she said no.,then my crown fell apart had it replace then 2months before a year of having the crown done it fell apart again. Dr Karzen said we can redo it or just sand it down ,so she sanded it down ..Then the crown next to that one completely just fell apart I had that one done a few years ago .my silver filling and some of the crown was just left showing ...I went in and she said that it has to be redone ..she also said it was because of grinding my teeth (I do not grind my teeth ) I would of had to bite a brick ....I said I was not going to pay another $800.00 dollars I then told her I had read other reviews and I was dissapointed.and I was going to report her to the dental board she then said it was a stalker that wrote fhose reviews. But agreed to fix for a $100.00 lab fee I said fine. Fast forward to March 26,2011 I recieve a certified mail telling me that she was not going to fix my tooth and threated me not to write a defamatory review and that she has contacted authorities. I was referred to Dr. Karzen from a friend of mine who loves her. My first visit over a year ago was a little overwhelming because they pushed the nite guard which costs $$ (which I don't wear but I know I should) and a few other things that were so pricey and the xray situation seemed amateurish BUT my recent visit this year was completely different - and excellent. Yes, Dr. Karzen can come of a little ball-busting to her staff but I like it because I really feel like it will be done right. Also, their xray situation is seamless and simple now. I went to Dr. Karzen at first because of some teeth whitening package I bought way back in 2004. I got the service at her office and she gave me a free consultation and I was a fan until I moved away! She also gave me a discount on dental (I didn't have dental insurance) when I referred a friend, so I referred 3 more to her! She saw my husband and 2 kids, everyone was very friendly and nice and the receptionist always checked with me about how much things were going to cost before just moving ahead with the procedure, which I really appreciated. the hygenists were great, I'd recommend her office to anyone in the SF valley. read more

After a couple of less-than-great experiences at a previous dentist, I neglected my poor teeth for a couple of years. After researching new dentists and booking an appointment with Dr. Karzan, I was pleasantly surprised to get a text message reminder before my appointment. Cool! Upon arrival at the appointment, everyone, including the receptionist, the dental assistant, the hygienist (Maggie), and Dr. Karzen was super nice, putting me at ease. The office looked clean, and they have TVs in the exam/cleaning rooms so you can watch HGTV (or whatever you want) during your cleaning. I ended up having to two cavities (not too surprising), and Dr. Karzen was able to fill them right after my cleaning. I've already booked an appointment for my husband to come in for his cleaning soon, and expect to refer others as well. Yay for a good, nice dentist (and hygienist)! read more

I have been cared for my Dr. Karzen for over 5 years now and I have never in my life experienced such a complete care package such as her very talented staff provides. From Dr. Karzen's meticulous and exacting skills to Maggie's hygiene work, getting my gums back to health, Myrna's skill as an assistant (makes such good temps that they'd probably last a couple of years) and Josie's making sure the insurance is used properly. Couldn't recommend them more, you really can't go wrong here. I was lucky to randomly find Dr. Karzen when I first moved to L.A. in 2005. I moved to West LA, and I still go to see her (that should say something!). She and her staff are always friendly and professional. I had an issue with a veneer done by a crappy lab and she took care of it. Yes, some of the services are pricey, but find me a cheap dentist a could trust...not likely. I would suggest looking at some of the filtered reviews also. read more

She immediately tells you all the heavy duty cleaning you need, of course your insurance does not cover this. Very uncomfortable. Impossible to have just a cleaning. Office visits take forever. I have been a patient of Katie Karzen for nearly 9 years. She and her excellent office staff are more like an extension of my own family. I compare this practice to Nordstrom, first class experience, products and services. First of all, her staff has not had turnover since I started 9 years ago which is so rare for a dental practice. Although I now live in Ventura County, I make the trip down for both me and my son as I enjoy the people and experience. Josie is sweet, compassionate and kind. Myrna is gentle and always makes me feel comfortable when preparing me for a procedure. Maggie is an absolute joy. I am always seen no more than 2 minutes after I arrive. Now with that said, you have to be on time or else there will be a wait like any other practice. As I read some of the reviews here I was astonished that people who say this practice lacks integrity by up selling. This is a business and they have to make a profit to cover their costs. Unlike retail dentist practices, this one is family owned and operated by a woman. I have personally experienced quality services and products and simply declined when I felt a service was not necessary or out of budget. Please don't judge this practice based on negative reviews. Try doctor Karzen for yourself. I refer all of my friends and coworkers to her and they love it. They also give you a coupon on your next visit for referrals. My only complaint is the parking situation and frankly at certain times of the day you can park on the side street near veggie grill and walk over. The parking underground is also affordable as I usually only pay about $4. You will not be disappointed by giving this practice a try. read more

My husband and I have been going to Dr. Karzen for many years now and have always been happy with our care. They ask if you want x-rays and if something is bothering you, the dentist will always come check you out. We have spent a little extra on antibiotic shots, but my mouth is in better shape than it has been for many years and I no longer need the shots. The office manager also checks your insurance and let's you know how much anything will cost before they treat you.
