Not surprisingly, my dental health was terrible: three cavities and bad gum health. Dr. Stein laid out a thorough treatment plan that included deep cleaning and fixing the cavities. He also provided a detailed cost estimate, which I greatly appreciated. His professional demeanor, combined with a great music playlist, helped me feel more relaxed during my visits. After the first session--where he pulled the problematic tooth and started the deep cleaning--he handed me a gift bag and praised me for doing well. I'm 30 years old, but I needed that encouragement, and it honestly made me feel better about seeing the dentist regularly. Over three sessions, Dr. Stein removed the growing tooth, fixed a very deep cavity, and did a thorough deep cleaning. After the last session, he told me he'd pause any further treatment until my insurance caught up, which I really appreciated. Let's face it, dental care isn't cheap, but Dr. Stein genuinely tries to save his patients money.

Which makes it infuriating that the front desk is the reason why they've permanently lost my business. I was a loyal patient here for years. Spotless billing history, never a problem. Then one Friday I got caught in the 405 traffic that anyone in LA knows is a coin flip, called ahead to say I was running late, and as I was parking right outside their door -- 20 minutes late -- they cancelled my appointment. No offer to wait for the next opening. No attempt to rebook. No flexibility whatsoever. Just a cancellation, followed by a bill for an appointment that never happened. Then it got worse. I called three times -- calmly, reasonably -- to ask them to drop the charge for a service I never received. Three times I got the same cold, dismissive answer: lateness is billable, read the fine print. Years of loyalty meant nothing. No goodwill, no judgment, no interest in keeping a long-term patient over a single traffic jam. Just a hand out, demanding money for an empty chair. That's the whole relationship to them: not a patient, a line item. So they've lost my business -- permanently -- and I'll be telling everyone I know to think twice before handing this office their trust or their money. The dentistry is good. But you have to get past a front desk that will bill you for nothing, lecture you for asking, and treat years of loyalty like it never happened. Not worth it. Go somewhere that remembers you're a person. What a shame, all for $145. Good thing this town has thousands of other choices who provide equivalent care with exceptional service.

At nearly every visit, he claimed I had 6-8 cavities and needed crowns, immediately funneling me into costly treatment plans. I later learned these diagnoses were completely bogus. The work itself was just as bad as the dishonesty. One crown he did was so tight and uncomfortable that it fell off multiple times. It was poorly done and eventually had to be replaced entirely by another dentist. The biggest red flag? Since leaving his practice, I've been with an excellent dentist for seven years and haven't had a single cavity. My teeth are in great shape--something that apparently wasn't possible under Dr. Shapiro's "care." In my experience, Dr. Shapiro is a scam artist who overdiagnoses, overtreats, and overcharges. I wouldn't trust him anywhere near my mouth. Be warned.
