Tucked away in the side streets of Ibrox, Briggs 2 Go is a handy pit stop for eats if you're…read moresituated in surrounding offices or are looking for a pie on a match day! In fact, I'd imagine this place rakes in a bomb on Saturdays - with the amount of scrummy chicken bakes on offer, you wouldn't be able to move in there! Luckily, I visited on a marginally steadier business day. There was an abundance of ready made rolls that were fresh and super cheap for the content. Their menu boasts that everything is "freshly made on the premises" which is evident from the industrious staff chopping veg in the open plan worktop behind the counter. There's a huge variety of food available here, from savoury scotch pies to healthier options such as baguettes - all for under two pounds. Cakes are just as cheap but tasty, with caramel shortcake on the menu! What's more, teas and coffees are all under a pound and Briggs 2 Go is possibly the only place left in the UK that sells Walkers crisps for less than 40 pence. This place reminds me of how cheap it was to buy cooked snacks before the recession slammed shut our wallets, but where Briggs 2 Go lacks in price it certainly doesn't lack in quality!

This went steadily downhill once it had been sold. It lasted a few months but now appears closed…read more The staff were useless and rude, sadly. What was once an ace wee sandwich shop became a place to avoid. Which is sad but my wallet and waistline will probably benefit!

Prior to visiting Govan, my experience with exiting the underground in Glasgow had been pretty…read morereliably something like this: 1) Take stairs up 2) Go through turnstyle 3) Take more stairs up 4) Spot nearby coffeeshop Needless to say... the exit from the Govan station did -not- follow this pattern. In fact, not only was there no immediately apparent coffeeshop right outside the tube, there wasn't one on the next street, or even around the corner! Once my mild anxiety attack passed... I decided to do some more scouting, which led me to the indoor shopping mecca* known as Govan Cross. Inside... I found none other than The Wee Scone Shop. I mean... how could I possibly have passed up a place with "wee" in the name? Really... I can't say I was tempted by the heat lamp-warmed grub, but I did escape with a frothy latte that satisfied my caffeine cravings. For that, I'm grateful. -- * This is a patent lie. By "shopping mecca" I mean "tragic retail food outlet that I would never consider spending any money at."

Another option for lunch when your stuck in Govan for ideas…read more It's a bakers, coffee shop and take away and based in the Govan Cross Shopping Centre. I've fortunately never been when it's busy but I've never been sure where you're supposed to queue. They recently had the counter done up and they have a counter for the cakes/cold rolls and a seperate counter for hot foods i.e. pasties/hot roll choices. I just go to the hot counter, they have a minimum selection of toasties, soup but normally have an ok variety of hot rolls and pasties. The cakes always look so delicious, the strawberry tarts are huge, to be honest most of the cake are massive. Me thinks they've been putting something in them to grow, just like when you get bizarre and ginormous cucumbers. When you go to Greggs it is your standard production line size but these come with the bumps, lumps and well out of shape. Just the way I like a cake. The clientele is normally old ladies have their afternoon tea but if you fancy a wee coffee break and cake pop in for a giant squiffy cake.
