The special education program there is outstanding the teachers the support staff everyone is awesome they greet my son every day they communicate with me well which I did not receive in previous schools or school districts. In the beginning it was rough at first but once you get to know my kid and my family everything worked out well we're very hands-on Tell us what needs to happen and we will get it done to have a positive outcome. They bring students together and promote a positive learning environment. They have a great leadership program, great academic options, sports, band, clubs and many opportunities. Check out Clovis Christian or Immanuel if you want a system that truly cares about your kids, because I can tell you for a fact that the admin at Fresno Christian does not care. They will absolutely prioritize athletes that don't even go to the school for a chance at a valley championship. And again, this is only true about admin, not the teachers. Even being late a couple of times in a whole semester can get you detention, which feels over the top. A lot of the staff come off as disrespectful, and the overall environment feels negative and strict rather than supportive. The social atmosphere isn't great either, with a lot of students being judgmental and insincere, which makes it hard to feel comfortable. Overall, it feels like the school is more focused on enforcing rules, grades, and achievements than actually supporting students or creating a healthy learning environment. If someone has the option, going somewhere else would probably be a better experience.

I've been volunteering here for three years, and their front desk staff and volunteers have always been fantastic. They are efficient and friendly, and are very cognizant of student safety. The grounds are clean (ok, not during lunch; but those kids literally just drop stuff), and there is a great sense of school pride and school spirit. I've always felt welcome on campus.

The biggest lie that UHS tells students and parents is that it gives you a leg up on college. The…read moretruth is that colleges have such a difficult time processing or understanding a UHS transcript that you will be lucky if any of the courses you take (which will be loaded with way more busy work than any actual college class is) wind up counting for credit. Anytime I ever tried to attend college after UHS I would have to spend weeks meeting with multiple counselors, having them have to talk back-and-forth between CSUFresno multiple times, and having to pay for the same transcripts several times because any other school gets so confused by the fact that it shows you attended Fresno state for too many years compared to the units you took for your timeframe and completion rates. (LITERALLY counts against you on paper.) In order to get any of your Scholastic records actually counted from UHS is a long, arduous process where you will have to fight like tooth and nail just to get any kind of record of the hours of torture that were spent filling out 7 page study guides. Also, colleges do not look favorably upon it as a school compared to any of the prominent Fresno or Clovis high schools, as it's widely considered amongst actual educators as a joke (tell a college counselor you attended UHS & watch their facial expression change into one of dread & sympathy.) Most of the students that went to UHS wound up being so burnt out from the environment of scholastic servitude and personal repression that they either didn't want to go to college right after high school or transferred out by their senior year to a normal high school. In addition to that, the social environment of the school is extremely hostile, very much an "us versus them" attitude where ultra-conservative religions & white privilege reigns, which the administrators ensure by requiring students to have already played a musical instrument. The school has been very successful at catering to their intended demographic. One of the least diverse schools I've ever seen, and definitely the most hostile to anyone that doesn't fit in their Utah milktoast mold.

The culture of the school is uplifting and nonjudgemental. My daughter is graduating this year and then starts her Psychology studies. It is a feeder school to FSU, so if you are thinking of Frenso State and your kid is musical (Singing or Instrumental) this is the place for you! Pretty much everyday when you pick your child, you will hear a band playing or the beautiful choir serenading you on campus. If your child is musical in any capacity this is the school for you.

The priest has brought an extreme conservative ideology to this role that is completely out of character with the tone and values this church has always represented -- none of his predecessors led this way. Policies have changed in ways that feel exclusionary and fear-based, and when families have raised concerns, they haven't been heard. The community that made this church and school special is being eroded. I'd encourage anyone considering this school to ask leadership directly about their policies on family inclusion before enrolling. And I'd encourage longtime parishioners to ask the same questions of the priest and the diocese. The answers may surprise you.
