I have had OK experiences with the other departments and so far the only major problem I had related to a specific physician in Urology at the main hospital. Would not recommend coming to this hospital for a urologist. With that being said, I have had nothing but generally positive experiences and outcomes with all other providers and departments here from gastroenterologists, emergency doctors and even surgeons. My recent operation here went very well and I was extremely well taken care of the entire time. I have not used any other hospitals or doctors in the area because UF Health downtown is very conveniently located to me. They make it easy to keep up with your information via the MyChart app and I think that's my favorite thing about them. I'm always up to date on appointments, billing, etc. I would certainly recommend UF Health to all of my friends and family.

It's heartbreaking that no other hospital in Florida blocks their Medicare patients from receiving family health care. Shame on them. They recruit other Doctors from other hospitals that have patients for over 10 years and then will not accept these patients on Medicare even if they have been with that physician for over 10 years at that physician's previous family practice. . Leaving the patient to fend for itself, now they have to start a whole new relationship with someone else. Shame on the Mayo. The Mayo should at lease accept the patients that have been with the physician that's moving over, they are not new to their doctor and really not new to Mayo.

This is an impressive facility with the latest, cutting-edge equipment run by an efficient, friendly, competent staff. Surgery days can evolve as few as five and up to 35 customers a day per surgeon. It's an impressive operation with the average elapsed time for cataract surgery at 3-hours. Kudos to Dr. Amit Chokshi and his colleagues and staff for running such a professional and efficient operation.

The nurse practitioners (especially Sarah!) are good as well, and seem very well informed. True, there can be long waits, but the Dr's spend as much time as it takes for each patient which puts them behind. When it comes to your turn they show you the same concern, and take the time necessary for you as well. The ones that suffer the most are the practitioners, since they spend their lunch time catching up on the last morning appointments, yet I have never heard them complain. I recognize the concerns expressed may have some validity, but this is the business model forced on all of us by the Insurance industry. If you would rather go somewhere where expediency is valued over compassionate care, more power to you. If you prefer compassionate, knowledgeable medical professionals that are sincerely trying to do the best for each patient, this is the place. I feel that's worth the wait.

I'm writing this as a family member of a patient who recently saw Dr. Shannon Leu at Baptist Health…read morein St. Augustine, and the way she was treated was completely unacceptable. One of the first things Dr. Leu reportedly said was, "You're young, why are you here?" That is an incredibly dismissive way to speak to someone who came in with legitimate health concerns. My family member tried to explain her symptoms and left feeling brushed off, belittled, and made to feel stupid for seeking medical care at all. She was so hurt by the interaction that she cried afterward. What makes this even more infuriating is that recent bloodwork has since supported the concerns she was trying to address. She had every reason to seek care, and instead of being listened to, she was made to feel as though her concerns were insignificant simply because of her age. She also said Dr. Leu repeatedly talked about retiring soon during the appointment. Quite frankly, if retirement is where your attention is, patients should not be the ones paying the price for it. People come to a doctor because they are scared, uncomfortable, or looking for answers. They should not have to fight to be taken seriously. This was not simply a disappointing bedside manner. It was a deeply upsetting experience that left a patient feeling humiliated and unheard. Based on what my family member experienced, I would strongly encourage others to consider a different provider if they want to feel respected and taken seriously.

My mother was admitted to this facility for rehab after her surgery and they were not following the…read moredoctors orders in terms of number of therapy sessions per day, they weren't bringing her ice as the doctor ordered, they weren't elevating her leg and she only got one bath per week, when the doctor said it should be three times/week. Also, the phone system often didn't work and they were leaving her on her own to try to make it to the toilet, when she was just three days from the surgery. I'm giving them two stars, instead of 1, or zero, because when we requested the assistance, she got it. My mom also thought the therapists were nice. So, as long as you can stay on them to properly assist you, you will fare OK, but if you can't monitor them, or if your loved one can't assert themselves, I'm not sure they'll get the care you expect. My Mom's doctor said he will not be recommending this facility to his patients anymore after my Mom answered his questions.
