This is our 3rd time hiring Christopher for a project at our house. I wrote a review for his first…read moreproject but did not for the 2nd or most recent, so I'm including both of those here! Most recently, he came to reinstall our new LVP on our 2nd floor. We (mistakenly) hired a different company to install the LVP (I didn't know Christopher did LVP as well!) and that company installed it at an angle. It looked terrible! Christopher came and very carefully uninstalled the LVP and baseboards to save as many boards as possible. He cleaned up the subfloor and added self-leveler, feathering it out to make it correct. He reinstalled it beautifully - and straight! As expected, he was detailed oriented and put in extra time to make sure it was done right. He even straightened up an angled wall which was bowed to ensure the baseboard sat flush. I also included photos from the bathroom he did for us in early 2024. He laid floor tile, wall tile, shower floor tile, added a niche in the shower, installed the tub and tub faucet! It all looks perfect and is still in great shape 2 years later! Not only is Christopher the best at what he does but I also feel comfortable having him in our home, even if we are not there. He's keeps us updated on the project timeline and is always friendly!

Unfortunately, the experience was overwhelmingly negative, and I feel compelled to share it to help others make informed decisions. (Yes, I did online research before commencing this project with Mr. Clark but there were no warning signs of what the future would entail.) Key Issues: High-Pressure Sales Tactics: Gary Clark pressured us into making a $28,208 commitment payment for kitchen cabinets, claiming we had to act immediately to secure a distant construction start date. He hinted at a possible earlier timeline, which later proved to be false. Design and Communication Problems: Gary Clark delegated much of the design work and communications to his young daughter, which led to repeated revisions and delays. The designs often didn't align with what we requested, and I had to repeatedly remind him that this was my house. Adding to the delays, Gary Clark frequently left town for his new business in North Carolina. No Progress Made: By the time Gary Clark terminated the KAS Construction / Renovations Home Center contract via email after I expressed my frustration at the never-ending escalating costs, no tangible progress had been made. There were no permits, no architectural plans, no materials had been ordered, not even his "specialty" of cabinets had been ordered - nothing to show for the months we spent working with him. Broken Refund Promises: When Gary Clark sent a termination of services email stating "at this time I feel we should tear up your contract and I'll refund your deposit." Later he insisted on keeping "some" money for his "time," which ultimately turned out that he wanted to keep nearly all the money. After weeks of negotiation, he agreed to a more reasonable settlement, but I paid to have a formal settlement letter drafted, he refused to sign and reneged once again. Unfulfilled Refund: As of January 2025, we have not received any portion of our $28,208, nor have we received any cabinets or work from Gary Clark, Renovations Home Center, or KAS Construction. Legal and Regulatory Actions: We reported the issue to various regulatory agencies in Pinellas County and the State of Florida. Gary Clark was subsequently investigated for fraud and other potential violations. The Florida State Attorney recently "determined that the facts and circumstances as presented do not warrant prosecution at this time." Advice for Potential Customers: If you are considering hiring Gary Clark, Renovations Home Center, or KAS Construction, I strongly recommend submitting public records requests to relevant agencies. This will provide valuable insights into his track record and help you make an informed decision. Final Thoughts: This experience has been incredibly disappointing. We lost months of time, trust, and $28,208 without seeing any progress. Fortunately the statute of limitations is five years, so we have time to file a civil lawsuit, but that won't erase the horrible experience we had with the construction industry.

In 2016 we had Gary (Home Renovation Center) remodel 2 bathrooms completely. They came out perfectly, so in 2017 we had Gary again renovate our kitchen and living room and family room. This involved designing a new kitchen, taking down a wall , removing the kitchen completely, installing a new ceiling with recessed lighting, relocating the appliances and plumbing. Installing a backsplash, appliances, cabinets, a new plank tile floor throughout and painting. Everything came out perfect again. We could not have asked for more regarding workmanship, communication, and coordination. We were not here during the actual work but my neighbors even liked the workers. The initial construction seemed very good but then there was no coordination of the subcontractors. The builder had a hard time remembering his different projects. Comments like "we will give you the good people today" when noticed things not done well and "oh, they did not do that?" when asked about a detail that was discussed but not done. I wanted all "good people" every day for everything! The electrical seems to be the worse. Subcontractors with "promised" help after built do not call back after many calls. My family has had to call our own subcontractors to fix the horrible work done by the builder's subcontractors. Only 1 year in the house with some steps crumbling, replaced many breakers since waking up to no power to parts of the house, and brown streaks coming from the gutters. All this after asking for repairs before even moving in. My family did not build on Davis Island (when asked where the builder was - "building his Davis Island homes") so I guess we got the "bad people". When the builder's wife writes reviews, think twice about the quality you're going to get. **Update* The homeowner and the builder have resolved their disagreements from the review dated August 28, 2014.

The cost of the project, when you break it down, shows that a good portion of that cost goes to somewhere other than the work being done or the cost of materials. When you pay over 10k for a project then you expect a professional job and not the bare minimum then the rest disappear. These are my opinions and experience. Your results may be different. I feel the job was rushed, corners cut and again. When you pay a lot of money then you would expect at least 3/4 or more of that finance to go towards labor and product. Heck, If I can earn $4,000 or more just by making a few phone calls... Order and deliver some wholesale pavers, hire someone to remove old concrete, A team of foreign laborors from South America, then count me in but that is exactly my experience.
