We've had four items, the pork dinner plate being the best. Ventura is the closest thing I've found in Milwaukee that reminds me of the taco trucks in Austin. The green salsa could be a little spicier but the orange is similar to Torchy's Diablo sauce. I do wish they had guacamole/salsa and chips (or even better yet, queso). We will definitely be continuing to come back.

My brisket grilled cheese today was even better than the last time I had it, but I was told nothing in the recipes was changed. I guess I just missed eating it so much it tasted even better than I remembered. Great eats!

This burger had cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon jam, and burger sauce. It also came with chive fries...mmmmmm chive fries. They were pretty busy, which I generally take as a good sign, but I had to wait about 10 minutes for my burger. Not bad of a wait really. They called my name and presented me with my burger and fries. It looked great! I hurried by to my office, eating the delicious fries along the way. They were crispy, hot, salty, with just enough chives that you knew they were there but they didn't overpower. I dug into the burger as soon as I sat down. It was fantastic! The burger was cooked to a perfectly pink medium. The bacon jam was amazingly flavorful! I have no idea what burger sauce is but it was great. The lettuce and tomatoes were nice and fresh too. The sesame bun was nicely toasted and the cheddar cheese was nice and melty. I liked that the bun held up well and didn't fall apart while I was eating it. I was in burger heaven! I sure hope this food truck will come by regularly. The rest of their sandwiches sounded great too and I can't wait to try them!

The Big Gringo and I go way back.....I feel like I might be missing other things on the menu, but if it ain't broke...don't fix it. I think the Big Gringo at their restaurant is one of the 3 best burgers in town...and their food truck version isn't as great....but it's still damn good. Burger was a little greasier than I had hoped, so I'm thankful I grabbed extra napkins. The burger patty itself was good...not great....but when comparing it to other food trucks (other than my personal favorite) it's one of the best in town. I'm glad I asked for my fries without parmesan, because that made them taste even fresher. Oscar himself is running the truck....the man, the myth the legend. Couldn't be a nicer guy, and the way he rifles through orders was extremely quick, but always with a smile...and a great attitude. Even though summer is ending, I look forward to checking out Oscar's on a Roll on a regular basis.

Food truck Friday!…read more I have noticed this food cart/truck always seem to be popular, and thought I would give it a try. I got the special today - 2 chicken chimichangas, and they were really good! It came with beans and rice, a little bit of salad and some avocados all in this little container. Really quite a bit of food for $7.75! Only suggestion for improvement was that they only have forks to give out, and you really did need a knife to cut the chimichangas, or just use your hands. Fortunately I brought it back to my place of work where I had all kinds of utensils.

I chose the three chicken tacos with everything minus jalapenos. What I got was a massive amount of food and all for well less than $10. Very fresh, the tortillas tasted like they'd been made that morning and the pico de gallo was nice and zippy, and the avocado slices were cut right from the avocado on top of my tacos. It was a little hard to eat that much food, but I managed to do it. There are some tables and chairs nearby along Mason Street by the river so you don't necessarily have to take lunch back to your desk. There is always a line and that's a good thing. Cash only, as far as I could tell.

Plenty of parking in the attached lot! The inside of this spot has a no-frills, local Wisconsin bar feel to it. Plenty of seats at the bar or dining room! The servers were a bit frazzled, and not the friendliest, but they were efficient and timely. The food was just average, unfortunately. We ordered the Traditional Fish Fry with Potato Pancakes. The cod was bland and uninspired, the rye bread wasn't toasted or buttered, and the potato pancakes were soggy. It wasn't very expensive, so I didn't mind the lack of excitement, but won't be running back to get that anytime soon. A win was the Brandy Old Fashioneds were delicious!

After a couple of visits, Hidden Kitchen has landed on my list of favorite food trucks!…read more You may have seen Hidden Kitchen mentioned or listed at several physical locations because they sell pizzas out of MobCraft Brewery, offer catering, work from their food truck at various places around town, and recently set up a location with a commercial kitchen at the Eleven25 at the Pabst Food Hall at 1125 N. 9th. Street in Milwaukee. The Eleven25 location primarily sells hot or take-n-bake pizzas and fresh sandwiches. I think you'll currently get a better idea of their cooking skills from the food truck. The menu offers a handful of items, with most being seafood dishes, but there non-seafood options, as well as desserts. I enjoyed their lobster roll at the NEWaukee Night Market last summer, and recently LOVED their lamb gyro and crab cakes! They use actual lamb shoulder for the gyro instead of the strips of processed meat you typically get at a gyro joint. The lamb is tender and perfectly seasoned! The crab cakes are made with claw meat and they were perfectly crisp and delicious! I capped off the most recent meal with a slice of their key lime pie, and it exceeded my expectations. The pie crust is a bit fragile on the side, so it may detach from the pie filling when you get close to it, but the flavor and texture are right on! Now, I have their Mahi Mahi tacos and Reuben on my to-do list, based on the rave reviews I've seen on social media, but the menu changes often, so I hope I can keep up!

It was delightful packed with fresh cucumber, tomato, onion, capers, lox and cream cheese all on a griddle toasted bagel. For lunch I've had the pleasure of trying the Reuben, blackened salmon sandwich, Cubano and chicken gyro. All very very tasty and well made with great quality meats and fish. My favorites so far are the blackened salmon sandwich and the chicken gyro! These are must tries menu items!!! I highly recommend the food at this truck! I can't wait to try more menu items. This is a Texas style BBQ where you go down the line as you order to put the food on a platter. We had the brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage. Our favorites were the brisket and ribs. The meat just melts in your mouth and falls off the bone. That sausage is spicy though!! For the sides we had mac and cheese, cornbread, beans, and coleslaw. Our favorites were the mac and cheese and beans. The cornbread was a little dense but the flavor was good. To finish off with dessert we had their incredible banana pudding. I could literally eat this everyday. They are a family owned business and truly put their love into what they do. They were all so nice and welcoming when we visited and we will definitely be back again.

We've been to Tom's Smokehouse twice now. Once for the grand opening and again the very next…read moreweekend, I think that alone says quite a bit about our experience. Being a brand-new restaurant, the interior is understandably still being established. It's pretty plain at the moment and doesn't have a ton of atmosphere or a defined "vibe" yet. The setup follows the traditional Texas BBQ style where you make your way down the line and order your meats and sides as you go. First and foremost, though, the service here is second to none. Tom, Mary, and the entire team make you feel like family from the moment you walk through the door. Everyone we've interacted with has been incredibly kind, generous, attentive, and genuinely happy to have you there. I cannot say enough good things about the people running this place. That kind of hospitality is hard to teach. As for the BBQ, prices are fair, especially for the quality and portions. The pork belly bites are good- very flavorful with the fat rendered properly. The jalapeño cheddar sausage is another standout. It has a nice bite, great texture, and plenty of flavor throughout. The pulled pork was very good as well. It's tender, moist, and rendered well, though I think it could handle a little heavier seasoning to really make it pop. The spare ribs were great- very tender with great smoke and flavor. The brisket was also very tender, though ours leaned a little dry and could have used more seasoning. Still a solid brisket and certainly something I'd order again. We've tried several of the sauces as well. The house BBQ sauce is excellent, and the mustard BBQ is another winner. The peach tea BBQ is definitely unique and worth trying, though it was a little too sweet for me and could use some additional depth to balance it out. They also have bottled and canned beer and soda, along with a self-serve water station. All in all, we're extremely happy to have Tom's Smokehouse in the Hubertus area and will likely become regulars. There are a few minor areas where the food and atmosphere can continue to develop, but this is also a brand-new restaurant finding its footing. For only being open a short time, they are off to a fantastic start and have a lot to be proud of. Most importantly, the combination of good BBQ and genuinely exceptional hospitality makes you want to come back, and we already have!
