Recommend: Yes I happened to stumble upon Karolinas during their grand opening. I'd seen something about it on Instagram, and since I was already in the area running errands, I decided to stop in. Unsurprisingly, the place was extremely busy, but once I got inside, I was impressed. It's such a cute little spot filled with Mexican-inspired items like coffee, mugs, jewelry, keychains, and even pottery. There are so many charming little things to browse that you could easily spend quite a bit of time exploring. The space itself isn't huge ( I didn't get to make it upstairs), but they've done a fantastic job arranging everything in such an inviting and visually appealing way. I didn't get a chance to talk to anyone--understandably, it was a busy day--but I can definitely see myself coming back. If you're in the area, this place is worth checking out! read more

This establishment is fantastic! There are so many items to purchase, bring plenty of money. This YELP event was nice and I purchased some items for Fiesta. There were Spurs T-Shirts, all kinds of earrings, La Boo Boo dolls and key chains, Hello Kity items, very nice pottery items, just too many items to describe. There were even paper maiche conchas! Karolina's is a very cute spot with a huge selection of Mexican household items, cute purses, hats, shoes, shirts, mugs, you name it they have it! It's a two-story store with anything your heart desires. As soon as I walked in I was in awe of all their cute gems. However, I did notice one of the owners was giving me a weird look not sure why, he didn't seem very welcoming, but as soon as he saw other customers he welcomed them into the store while still giving me a dirty look. I walked throughout the store to look at all their cute items which honestly are quite pricey. I finally found two super adorable Lotería coasters for $15 for both, not bad actually. When I went to pay the said owner was at the register, with his brother, when they rang me up the brother asked him if he could give me something (I think they were stickers but I'm not sure, but he said no and shooed him away so I wouldn't notice but they were talking in a normal tone so of course I heard, quite unprofessional). Also, a woman was at the register for a long time talking very loudly to both brothers about some nonprofit or something of that matter, which was also a little hostile, they should have taken her to the side and talked to her quietly as it was right in the middle of the store, also very unprofessional. Personally I think their store is adorable and their garden section is so cute, I just didn't like the interaction. I'm happy with my items, and might be back to get a headband or two! read more

"I drove 45 mins to support this adorable small business, excited to buy gifts for my kids - a Mickey Mouse blind box, Migo blind box, and La Fufu Coca-Cola collectibles. But shockingly, the La Fufu Coke I opened was defective - can was completely off! When I called to report, they casually said '**ALL of them are like that - they're fake La BuBu's*** I asked to exchange, returned to find: - All remaining La Fufu boxes were OPEN and torn - Every single Coke can was loose They still refused a full exchange for a different style and I ended up with a La Fufu filled with SUPER GLUE My heart sinks - will this be my last visit to support them? Awful, aggressive, rude customer service. I've purchased items here in the past and they were cute, however the lack of human decency doesn't make up for the items they sell. They have an odd chip on their shoulder about their parking. They have 3 spots painted that are strictly for them. I arrived midweek in the middle of the day, all 3 designated spots were open. I went to grab an iced coffee nearby prior to shopping in their store but was chased by the male worker that day berating me, even when I explained I was coming to the store momentarily. He then proceeded to try and film me. I will never ever return to this store. They are unwise to not take advantage of the additional business they likely receive from being next door to bright coffee, however they are shooting themselves in the foot by being the parking police read more

The shop is neatly divided into sections pertaining to a variety of topics, from serape, loteria, pan dulce, dia de los muertos, Frida, and so on and so forth. They also sell goods from local vendors like Very That and BarbacoApparel. Do you want a shirt that has the Whataburger logo that says Whataputa? They have that. Do you want concha slippers? We arrived to the store before they opened, so we decided to go have a coffee next door. When we came out the 2 owners/workers saw us and decided to start being rude about the parking space. Talking loudly to us saying that they were expecting their shipment and they had nowhere to park to get their shipment. Again when we arrived the store was closed so yes we had been parked there an hour waiting for them to open and drinking a coffee. There was no reason to be so rude especially because I specifically went there to go into that store. And when I said I'm going into your store they didn't care he just kept saying over and over you've been parked there over an hour. You lost a customer today over a parking space, wow, not very good business sense and you may not care but you should because word of mouth and social media is an amazing marketing tool, good for the retailer but also great for the consumer. Karolina's is the perfect place to find something new, something vintage or something totally campy for that extra fabulous person in your life. I've chatted with several local business owners now and am amazed by how many got their start at open markets. Maria, the owner of Karolina's, has a similar story to tell. Originally from a border town in Mexico, she came to San Antonio in 1997 and began selling random items at a flea market. That snowballed into her eventually networking with and selling for over 30 different vendors! Fast forward to 2007, Maria opened Karolina's as a fully functioning family business that each of her four children helped to shape. In addition, her now adult children have also developed incredible artistic talents - probably the result of growing up around such a creative aesthetic and entrepreneurial spirit. You can find her son Anthony's artwork throughout the store, including the beautiful mural dedicated to Karolina, his grandmother, who sadly passed away two years ago. I can tell they miss her dearly, particularly at this time of year. Luckily they have adorable family visiting, like Mattie seen behind the counter absolutely poised to take over at a moment's notice! I hope shoppers will continue to support local businesses like this and remember that they're the true heroes in the community. Think about the lifetime of sweat, tears and joy that went into building a place like Karolina's, plus the love it shares and the value it represents to the neighborhood. I grew up in this already in the mid 80" and was so happy seeing Blanco rd getting established and cleaned up. But after this experience, I'm sad to say that Karolinas, is just rotting Beacon Hill to the core! My pregnant wife had to use the restroom on our date day which we did t get very often. They not only denied a pregnant woman access to a fully functional restroom, but also called the cops if we don't move our car as we walked to Junction Antiques to find a restroom. It's almost laughable seeing "karolinas antiques" on the news as this local, trendy spot, that is so warm and inviting, when most of the locals can't stand them. Shop at Junction across the street. Also, owner made a point of offering to tow my vehicle from in front of "his" building-that he doesn't own- because we were about to visit the stores across the street. Very rude owners. Neighbouring owners commented on frequent confrontations about parking there with those two owners. Enter at your own risk, certainly don't dare to park there if you plan on visiting any other place nearby lest you too recieve threats of towing, despite shopping there. Such a fun little shop located off of Blanco, near Hildebrand. They have a unique assortment of clothing, jewelry, furniture. Some of the items are antique and others are contemporary, but they are all curated and presented beautifully in little spaces. I love wandering around and seeing what they have put together. Right now, they have Fiesta medals, and fiesta items. But they change some of their inventory depending on the season or events happening.
