To say the least, we love and fully support this organization as it has brought THREE wonderful dogs into our lives. Every person we have talked to at SBPR is friendly, knowledgeable, and has the best interest of the animals at heart. Our first dog was our very first, but we put in the time and research to demonstrate that we were ready for a pet. Though we were newbies and fully disclosed this, SBPR saw that she was a good fit for us as a "first dog," and we have been smitten with her ever since. She is even "bosom buddies" with my mom's dog from SBPR (who is 14 going on 15). With our recent second dog, also from SBPR, we were unsure how our current dog and new dog would get along, both being older and set in their ways. The foster mom allowed us to have a meet-and-greet, and even a trial weekend to see how they would live together. She saw that we were committed to what was best for both dogs, and the potential for a loving home with another SBPR "alum". We are so happy it was a successful transition. These dogs have brought so much love and light into our lives. SBPR cares about dogs and finding loving forever homes, and we are so lucky no-kill orgs like this one exist in our area. We treat our dogs like family, and this organization is to credit for these 3 little beings in our life. Eternally grateful to them for the great work that they do!

After a phone call and a few text messages a sweet semi-feral momma arrived w/ her 3 little gems. The transition from day 1 was a bit rocky but she found herself at the dining table where I was working and let me pet her. I was advised to keep her in the kennel but I couldn't do that.. I let her roam in a defined area. I was in love w/ her, whom I named Seren (Serendipity) and her kittens. I've had them for 9 wks before momma and a kitten were adopted by my good friend. I decided to keep the other 2: Gus Gus and Mo (Moana). Yes, Disney characters. This non-profit is a wonderful organization; respectable, responsive, friendly, resourceful, everything. Cat made sure I had enough food and litter and answered questions whenever raised. They take care of the vaccinations and spay/neuter for the 1st year. If you can't adopt, please consider fostering. I cried so much when Seren and Caterpillar were adopted but deep down I knew that we helped save their lives. The world is cruel and I am an animal lover... they drink bottled water and they have a plethora of food and treats and toys. I was going to get it but I'll refrain from getting a pet stroller.. you know... because I'm not a crazy cat lady. They have brought so much joy in my life. Thank you so much!!

Their fosters are amazing and work with the puppies on crate training, behavior, and making sure it is is a good fit. They also make sure that you have thought through the decision and know the commitment and resources that will be needed. Our puppy came home with some food, a collar, a toy, and his puppy blanket! They rescue lots of dogs including pregnant mothers, not just the cutest ones in shelters like some other organizations. Most (if not all) dogs adopted out from PPR are fostered, so they are already well socialized and often trained well. Jasper was potty trained and crate trained when he came to our home, and he had great manners from having two older foster brothers. It is true that PPR takes it's position as a rescue and adoption organization seriously. They will try their best to adopt pets to families and individuals that are ready for pet ownership, but please understand that in doing so they are trying their best to ensure that the dogs in their care do not return to shelters because the families were unready for a puppy (because let's be serious here, having a puppy is rough for the first several weeks!). It's a commitment for the lifetime of the animal, and that is not to be taken lightly. Everyone I encountered through PPR was warm, loving, and committed to saving as many animals as they could. Sorry for the long review, but PPR is great. They also have a wonderful community through Facebook and PPR puppy get-togethers annually. If you were turned down by PPR, give them another chance if you feel so inclined. If not, there are plenty of other organizations out there adopting out great dogs. As long as PPR ensures that shelter dogs get homes, then they are doing their job, and a job that they excel at. It is obvious from reading other reviews here that the dogs that PPR adopts out don't have crazy health issues like puppy mill dogs, and that their dogs are ready to start life in their forever homes because of their fostering policy. In my book that makes PPR a great organization. People who were turned down might not think so, but at the end of the day this is about getting abandoned and forsaken animals homes. PPR does that, and excels at it.

That went well but we were ready to for the next step of getting closer to other dogs in a controlled way. This is when I found out about Our Pack's Sunday drop in dog training. I was much more comfortable with this approach over a dog training class because I felt we could participate as much or as little as we were able. So the first time, we mostly observed from a comfortable distance. The second time we selectively participated and, this last time, we were fully engaged in the class. The following morning I received an email that I was invited to meet/adopt. I paid the $75 deposit and scheduled a meeting for Sunday morning, to give myself a day to think it over. Friday night I spent some time looking into the rescue since the previous steps had happened so quickly. After reading reviews, I was definitely upset & VERY hesitant after reading how their meet and greet process goes and where the dogs come from. Saturday I mulled it all over, and decided to go visit the dog Sunday with a list of restrictions. I went early to stake the place out, it was definitely sketchy in a back parking lot and felt weird. Eventually the dog rounds the corner with his foster parents and we meet. The dog was exactly as described & his personality and demeanor matched perfectly to what I had heard about him. He jumped into my arms and I knew then there was no way I was leaving without him. I spent an hour there with the dog & the fosters. They answered all my questions, didn't rush me, and I really got a sense of the dog. Months later and he is still the same dog I met that day- I know this isn't the case for everyone, but I'd say give it a chance!

My last foster dog was a sweet guy, but returned by the family for personal reasons. I had him close to a month. When we picked him up from the family they had informed me he had cytosporidium & giardia. Well we have four dogs and if you know Giardia, you know it HIGHLY contagious. So you can see in my texts the lack of communication first of all because they say they didn't even know he had these things and was brought in to my home and ALL FOUR OF MY DOGS HAVE IT. Have had it for months now and I have spent $600+ for emergency vet care. They started out giving me the meds, but then would just stop replying. So here we are. This is not even the messed up part. Of course you foster for a month you will get attached and they always were okay with me meeting the family who adopted my fosters because I offered free dog sitting to anyone who adopted my foster pups. Well, unfortunately, the Rescue set him up with a family that did not have another dog and my foster was required to be with another dog. So the family was going to have to adopt a second dog. Anyways, the family ended up saying that they just didn't really know how they were gonna figure out adopting two dogs and ended up backing out. I'm not really sure why that was even an option anyways- they should've just been denied because they didn't meet the requirements. Anyways, moving on, they picked another adopter and told me I could just drop him off at the event And I said oh no, it's OK. No worries. I would like to meet the family. Right off the bat I knew that the woman was not the adopter because she literally took two minutes. And was like OK I'll take him and was not compassionate or loving towards him at all so I knew it was a set up. Dominique that has worked there forever and has been taken under the wing by the director, Tera... Faked taking an adoption photo with this woman!!! Then a few days later, I go on their website and they had posted a family picture with people I did NOT meet. So this Rescue went above and beyond to FAKE an adoption just so that the foster would not meet the family. FUCKED UP! I think that's absolutely insane. Especially after fostering for a Rescue for two years and helping them out whenever they needed. This Rescue is cold and expects the fosters not to get somewhat attached, but that is not human. Tera should be happy her fosters do get attached and want the best for the dogs. I have also seen on Reddit the response to other fosters and they are not kind. Here is my thing. I talked to many of the other fosters that foster for this Rescue and they say that they will NOT DONATE MONEY to DPS because there is not a board of directors and so you don't know where the money is going. I also have a problem with that because I was not able to get a sufficient amount of medication from them to treat all of my dogs when my dogs got Giardia from my foster dog. The entire situation is so messed up. So not only are all of my dogs sick now, but I have no idea where my last foster dog ended up and just got to see the family picture. Which they have now taken down because they must have realized that they didn't want to get caught in their lie! The depths that people went to in this entire situation is just sickening and while I want to keep encouraging people to adopt rescue animals I cannot support this Rescue. I would highly suggest Coppers Dream, which also has more affordable adoption prices. Tera you have my number if you wanna call me and make this right!!!! At the VERY least you could cover these vet bills after all I did to help DPS. Application takes about two-one min to fill it out but it waste our time of the day doing it. I'll be using Craigslist for now on to adopt my future puppy.
