How am I comparing BBQ in Utica to these locations where meals can reach upwards of $400 for 2 you may ask? The food is so unique. Typically when I get BBQ - no matter how good it is- I reach for the sauce. Even though it's on the table, it's not needed here. Each dish is so unique. The owner/chef personally comes out and describes what he put into each dish, from the ribs with peanut brittle on top (I'm sure I'm missing many descriptors) to the Elote Corn. Each dish that came out made mine and my wife's mouth water. It's that good. Cost for the four course dinner is fair for the amount of food, quality and service. If you are anywhere near Utica, you need to try this place. You won't be disappointed ... until you go back to a typical BBQ restaurant.

We started with an order of hush puppies and fried green tomatoes. The hush puppies were delicious, and the cinnamon sauce it came with was the star of the show. We weren't huge on the fried green tomatoes; I think it needed a little more seasoning. My friend got the Alabama chicken sandwich and enjoyed it. I got the pulled pork plate with salt potatoes and mac and cheese. I thought the pork was good, but the sides were great! I liked that the sauces were on the table so I could sample several of them (I ended up liking the Texas sauce best). We ended the night saying we'd love to come back on a night with live music! Check it out next time you're craving some barbecue!

Lately though, something has changed. The food hasn't been as consistent, and I've noticed dishes trending more oily and a bit too sweet than they used to be. That said, the staff is still amazing and the owner is super friendly, so the issue definitely isn't service or atmosphere. I'm really hoping they find their way back to what made them so good, because this place has been a local favorite for a long time.

Our takeout order was delivered curbside. For two, we got a small papaya salad ($5.95), a small chicken larb ($7.95), and the veggie pad lao with spring roll lunch special ($6.95). The first two also came with white rice, which was much needed given how spicy they were! Overall, the food tasted fresh; portions were on the small to average side. The chicken larb and papaya salad packed some serious heat! The pad lao was a tad too sweet to my liking, but with the sauces and a squeeze of lime, was still tasty. We each paid about $12 for each of our meals. The fried rice and wings tasted like Panda Express and the pho-ritto was just a gimmick. The problem with both dishes was that they lack a solid protein. The pho-ritto ended up being rice noodles wrapped in a tortilla with the broth on the side. The drinks were okay but a bit sweet. Overall probably would not go back.
