China House used to be one of my go-to spots in Rome. Even through COVID, when a lot of places struggled, they stayed consistent and reliable, which says a lot. Lately though, something has changed. The food hasn't been as consistent, and I've noticed dishes trending more oily and a bit too sweet than they used to be. It's gotten to the point where I've stopped ordering, which is disappointing considering how often I used to go. That said, the staff is still amazing and the owner is super friendly, so the issue definitely isn't service or atmosphere. I'm really hoping they find their way back to what made them so good, because this place has been a local favorite for a long time. read more

Best Chinese Food in the Copper City. hospitality is exccellent. Best spicy wonton of any restaurant. Lo-mein selection, is my favorite. Also definitely get a pint of any variety of their soups. Definitely warms the body and makes ya feel better if you're not. The interior has been completely remodeled. Very beautiful and inviting. Great place to take-a-date and for lunch. The dining room has plenty of lighting. Not overly bright, but not dark as most dining rooms are. Yes. Pricing on the menu has noticeably increased. Inflation, red-tape,supplies, a pandemic, and storm damage, all attribute to the menu price increases. The great food, hospitality, and the China House being only a couple blocks from our home, is what keeps us returning since the 1990's. Only complaint(gotta have a complaint), is that we order take-out once-a-week. It's lotta money to feed two adults and two teens. And sometimes(one out of every eight orders), we get the wrong item in the bag, or the item is not in the bag. Not big deal. We've been coming to China House for many years and they are a solid Chinese restaurant, the best in Rome in our opinion. While we like this place, we have found that over the years the servings have gotten slightly smaller and the prices more expensive. In part, it's the world we live in but we still have China House as our "go to" Chinese restaurant. We generally do take out and it's always ready within the 10-15 mins they promise. We haven't eaten in since before COVID. While dated, the restaurant has always been clean - it does the trick. Overall it's a good place. read more

Very sadly have to report that the dining rooms are closed due to the hurricane. I was very much looking forward to dining there on Saturday night but arrived only to find the notice from the city that the building was unfit for occupancy. No other new location given. Very sad. I have had this place twice. First time, no problems, awesome experience. Second time, my boyfriend was projectile vomiting after eating his meal. I called to let the restaurant know, just in case it had happened to anyone else, with no anger in my voice. I just wanted them to know what happened. The man on the phone, I am assuming was the owner, told me that he hasn't had a complaint in 30+ years and that I was wrong. He told me if it was so bad, I should just go to the hospital. He was extremely angry on the phone when I was literally just telling him what happened. I didn't understand this response. My boyfriend then called asking for a refund and was appalled by the way the owner spoke to us. He wouldn't give us a refund and hung up the phone on my boyfriend. This was a pretty typical American style Chinese restaurant. Nothing special. Place was kind of a hole in the wall. Not particularly pretty or well kept. Service was ok. Nothing special. So I usually love this place--I usually order delivery. I won't be ordering anymore. Last night I called for delivery and the man that answered the phone said it was going to be a while because of the weather. I decided to go and pick it up and he thanked me and said it would help the driver out. Once there I sat and waited for my order 2 men and a woman were up at the register complaining about a customer who keeps ordering delivery and then doesn't answer the door. I ordered yesterday and it was their first day opening since closing for Covid. I expected a longer wait which was fine. When I placed my order they told me 45 min which is about 35 min longer than normal... no problem. I arrive at the restaurant and wait 15 minutes before anyone even comes to the front. The owner takes my number and looks for my order after another 5 minutes he calls my phone from the back of the restaurant and tells me he found my order and it's going to be another 30 min. I told him I already waited 45 plus and he told me okay want me to cancel the order. No apologies nothing. I understand you are busy but do not take more orders if you cannot handle it or at least offer me something for a future visit. Greatly disappointed in how he handled it. read more

China House is the best. I have eaten Chinese food from several different places across the US. This restaurant is at the top of the list for both take out and dining-in. When you dine-in, they give you these Chinese crackers with dipping sauce (duck +other ingredients). It's amazing. Their sesame chicken, General tso and beef/chicken and broccoli are my favorites! - Typical American, I know. I would also suggest to dine-in to try the tea and the crab ragoons for an app or desert! Negatives: Slow service. Cheesy decor. Could do with a better location. Menu is too big (typical with most Chinese restaurants). The size is ambitious, but ultimately a failure. Positives: The food is OK to good, and consistently so. It's one of two OK Chinese places in Rome. The prices are reasonable for the portion size. This is my preferred Chinese haunt in Rome.
