China House used to be one of my go-to spots in Rome. Even through COVID, when a lot of places struggled, they stayed consistent and reliable, which says a lot. Lately though, something has changed. The food hasn't been as consistent, and I've noticed dishes trending more oily and a bit too sweet than they used to be. It's gotten to the point where I've stopped ordering, which is disappointing considering how often I used to go. That said, the staff is still amazing and the owner is super friendly, so the issue definitely isn't service or atmosphere. I'm really hoping they find their way back to what made them so good, because this place has been a local favorite for a long time. read more

The food was amazing . I got the sesame chicken platter and spring rolls. They both were very delicious. I would definitely try again . read more

China House - Sesame Chicken with pork fried rice - Chinese Near Me - Rome, New York

Delicious meals and the staff and owners are always very friendly and courteous. Try the fried wantons for a special treat.

I've been going here for 20 years that I remember. It's always good. I usually bag up the egg roll to eat the next day because I'm always stuffed. My brother in law came here from Detroit once and said it was the best Chinese he'd ever had. Um... no, but it's good for the price. read more

Best Chinese Food in the Copper City. hospitality is exccellent. Best spicy wonton of any restaurant. Lo-mein selection, is my favorite. Also definitely get a pint of any variety of their soups. Definitely warms the body and makes ya feel better if you're not. The interior has been completely remodeled. Very beautiful and inviting. Great place to take-a-date and for lunch. The dining room has plenty of lighting. Not overly bright, but not dark as most dining rooms are. Yes. Pricing on the menu has noticeably increased. Inflation, red-tape,supplies, a pandemic, and storm damage, all attribute to the menu price increases. The great food, hospitality, and the China House being only a couple blocks from our home, is what keeps us returning since the 1990's. Only complaint(gotta have a complaint), is that we order take-out once-a-week. It's lotta money to feed two adults and two teens. And sometimes(one out of every eight orders), we get the wrong item in the bag, or the item is not in the bag. Not big deal. Ya just may want to check your takeout bag content, before actually going home. And Be Polite, when notifying the owners and staff. read more

Hubby and I agree we had delicious meals. Our entry was greeted cheerfully and service throughout was above the norm. Definitely our go-to choice for Chinese cuisine. read more

Food was okay but expensive. Purchased a pint of chicken chow mien, a pint of beef and broccoli, and 2 chicken low mien combo platters and it came to $62!!!! That's me picking it up. Never again. read more

Healthy fresh food, best prices, great owners. Nice relaxing comfortable atmosphere. Convenient hours.

We've been coming to China House for many years and they are a solid Chinese restaurant, the best in Rome in our opinion. While we like this place, we have found that over the years the servings have gotten slightly smaller and the prices more expensive. In part, it's the world we live in but we still have China House as our "go to" Chinese restaurant. We generally do take out and it's always ready within the 10-15 mins they promise. We haven't eaten in since before COVID. While dated, the restaurant has always been clean - it does the trick. Overall it's a good place. read more

Very sadly have to report that the dining rooms are closed due to the hurricane. I was very much looking forward to dining there on Saturday night but arrived only to find the notice from the city that the building was unfit for occupancy. No other new location given. Very sad. But I still give five stars knowing how fine it would have been if they were able to be open !! read more

I have had this place twice. First time, no problems, awesome experience. Second time, my boyfriend was projectile vomiting after eating his meal. I called to let the restaurant know, just in case it had happened to anyone else, with no anger in my voice. I just wanted them to know what happened. The man on the phone, I am assuming was the owner, told me that he hasn't had a complaint in 30+ years and that I was wrong. He told me if it was so bad, I should just go to the hospital. He was extremely angry on the phone when I was literally just telling him what happened. I didn't understand this response. My boyfriend then called asking for a refund and was appalled by the way the owner spoke to us. He wouldn't give us a refund and hung up the phone on my boyfriend. Any business that doesn't take food poisoning complaints seriously seems extremely problematic to me. No apology or anything for our experience and I will not be eating here again. read more

DO NOT COME HERE if you have a weak stomach, vegetarian or if you just hate getting sick!! I've been here a lot of times over the years and I have always left feeling very sick, they do not make their food from scratch everything is frozen and you can definitely tell, none of there stuff is fresh and I can promise that you will leave here ending up sick, be careful eating here!! read more

Best Chinese in Rome. Always super fast service. I call and they say 15 minutes and it's ready right when i get there. Their orange chicken is perfect, large portions read more

This was a pretty typical American style Chinese restaurant. Nothing special. Place was kind of a hole in the wall. Not particularly pretty or well kept. Service was ok. Nothing special. They had new staff so can't fault them too much. Owner was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the #2 and they didn't give me an option to spice it up. Came out very bland and tasteless. Nothing impressive but filling and fresh. The spring roll was very good. Food came out quick and hot. Kinda surprised at the high ratings for this place. Just average read more

Terrible customer service . They charged me $12 for a portion of broccoli. This has happened to me 2 times now never again!!!

China House is the best. I have eaten Chinese food from several different places across the US. This restaurant is at the top of the list for both take out and dining-in. When you dine-in, they give you these Chinese crackers with dipping sauce (duck +other ingredients). It's amazing. Their sesame chicken, General tso and beef/chicken and broccoli are my favorites! - Typical American, I know. I would also suggest to dine-in to try the tea and the crab ragoons for an app or desert! I could eat here everyday. The other Chinese restaurants in Rome do not compare! (Don't listen to the other guys) read more

China House - Sesame chicken with pork fried rice. Yummmm - Chinese Near Me - Rome, New York

I've been around the world due to being in the military, and I have yet to find better Chinese food anywhere. I really can't recommend this place enough. My only complaint would be that of late it seems that the quality of food can vary depending on whom is working, but it's still so delicious compared to any other Chinese restaurant in the area that it doesn't matter much. read more

So I usually love this place--I usually order delivery. I won't be ordering anymore. Last night I called for delivery and the man that answered the phone said it was going to be a while because of the weather. I decided to go and pick it up and he thanked me and said it would help the driver out. Once there I sat and waited for my order 2 men and a woman were up at the register complaining about a customer who keeps ordering delivery and then doesn't answer the door. When I went up to pay the older grey haired man cashed me out. Looked at the woman and made a VERY racist comment to her about the customer they were complaining about. I was in shock. It's so disappointing that a Rome staple in takeout made such a comment. read more

Yummy! It's a hole in the wall and you order at the counter but very good! They have take out and delivery. The cheese Rangoon's are to die for and egg rolls too! read more

China House - Check out the size of this egg roll! Rangoon's are full of cheese, - Chinese Near Me - Rome, New York

I ordered yesterday and it was their first day opening since closing for Covid. I expected a longer wait which was fine. When I placed my order they told me 45 min which is about 35 min longer than normal... no problem. I arrive at the restaurant and wait 15 minutes before anyone even comes to the front. The owner takes my number and looks for my order after another 5 minutes he calls my phone from the back of the restaurant and tells me he found my order and it's going to be another 30 min. I told him I already waited 45 plus and he told me okay want me to cancel the order. No apologies nothing. I understand you are busy but do not take more orders if you cannot handle it or at least offer me something for a future visit. Greatly disappointed in how he handled it. read more

Negatives: Slow service. Cheesy decor. Could do with a better location. Menu is too big (typical with most Chinese restaurants). The size is ambitious, but ultimately a failure. Positives: The food is OK to good, and consistently so. It's one of two OK Chinese places in Rome. The prices are reasonable for the portion size. This is my preferred Chinese haunt in Rome. The Mayflower is also OK, but not as nice for sit-down meals as The China House. read more

The food here was delicious. I definitely under estimated the potential. I ordered the bourbon chicken with chicken and vegetable fried rice.. The rice had big pieces of flavorful chicken while the bourbon chicken taste better then any chinese place I've ever been to. read more

One of only 3 Chinese food restaurants I eat at between Utica and Syracuse. The food isn't the typical fast food Chinese but more of the homemade nature. By far the best in the area and surprised some of the other reviewers thought otherwise because I'm usually a very harsh critic. read more

To start with the atmosphere is ok. There was no problem getting a table although it was just for myself. To start with, I had a hot & sour soup which was good. I then ordered steam dumplings. The one issues with that was I've never had cold sauce which just makes the food taste cold. I requested that it be warmed which they did. The dumplings were delicious. I then ordered the hunan chicken. I found the rice a bit too saucy. The chicken was fine and the spring roll was ok. The owner was very friendly. read more

RUDE owner {The Chinese man} who belatedly DISRESPECTED me over the phone. Said I asked ''too many questions'' when asked if they had meat in their egg rolls. Their own delivery man told me that it's become a habit there, and to reach out and make this post. Was just rude and obnoxious. YELLING in my ear. Gross customer service. read more

Best Chinese Take out in Rome. Period. We love the chicken and broccoli with veggie fried rice. Never disappointing, and they deliver.

China House is by far one of the best Chinese restaurants within the greater oneida county area. The service is on point and the owners are more than willing to go the extra mile to make you happy; one time the delivery guy was running late and the management actually came to drop off my delivery. 10/10 service 10/10 food! Try their burbon chicken! read more

Not bad, but I've had MUCH better chinese. I only went here once and had the Chicken and Broccoli combo. It tasted very bland. It was takeout so I cannot comment much on the service. read more

I ordered for pickup and they said 15 minutes. I've been waiting in the lobby for about 40 minutes. No one even apologized. It doesn't even matter how the food tastes at this point. I should have gone to China Inn. They are on time and less expensive, plus they give you free soda. read more

Just ordered delivery from China House based off of the other reviews. Let me tell you they did not disappoint. They were quick to deliver and let's get to the food. The Orange chicken the beef with broccoli the cheese rangoon wontons the fantail shrimp and the egg rolls . Everything tasted fresh and was not greasy and was still piping hot. There is no need for me to try any other Chinese food restaurant in Rome. This is going to be my go-to for delivery. Will definitely have to dine-in sometime... read more
