Came here after an event in the town, had some fun sipping wine and background dancing while others sang karaoke. I didn't dare get on that microphone screaming, lol. I had the red wine flight, which was delightful. Our host, David was very sweet and gave the history of each wine prior to sipping. One thing that pairs very well with wine is music and great company. This is definitely a Friday night go to spot. read more

What a wonderful experience at this establishment. Celebrated my bday drinking wine at this Black owned wine lounge in Alameda. Service was Impeccable and the ambiance was on point. Even talked briefly with the owner Chris Wachira. Amazing story. Plenty of spaces to sit and wine taste. They even of have a DJ on certain days. Noise level is elevated when the DJ is there, otherwise this is the perfect place to catch up with life. Please check out this spot if you want to relax in the company of exquisite wines while unwinding in a serene atmosphere. Street parking. read more

Came here with my friend on a Saturday an hour before closing because we wanted to do a local tasting. What we didn't know was that they normally stop tastings an hour before closing, but they were really accommodating and let us indulge in the "safari" tasting experience that goes well with the interior vibe of this location. Staff was friendly and welcoming and the layout just felt very warm and cozy, perfect atmosphere just just sip on some wine and catch up with my friend, and the music taste lvl was an A+. If you're in the area I'd definitely recommend you check them out, will have to come back for another glass of their Zinfandel which ended up being my favorite from our tasting experience. read more

I came here to check out this wine bar and support my friend and his band who were performing there. I came solo by uber and felt welcome and comfortable coming here alone. The server was friendly and seated me across the room from my friend's band and that was fine and I wanted a rosé wine and she gave me two samples to try. I settled on the PJ rose wine which was slightly sweet and I also had a slice of warmed strawberry pound cake which was went perfectly with my rose wine. The ambience was roomy and lovely and it was a bit crowded as there seemed to be an event there. I enjoyed the wine and the music and service was friendly and attentive. My server told me that the wine bar has been open for a year and half. I would love to come back here with a friend to relax and have some snacks while we have a glass of wine. read more

What I love about this place is that it's laid-back and casual. A lot of wine bars can be a little stuffy but this one seems to be all about community and family. They even allow children to come in with their families and allow you to bring in your own food. Where have you ever found a wine bar that would let you do that?! I love that the owner is a black woman, and that they have great music and of course great wine. It's definitely worth a visit, or two, or three. read more

The venue has a good amount of space and the lighting is great as well as the decorations. I've came here enough times to have met the lovely owner Chris Wachira and her associates Chadwick Spell and Marcel Anderson! I mostly come for their game nights, but recently for their karaoke night which I surprisingly enjoyed. I love that they serve food and allow you to bring in your own too. And they also serve non alcoholic beverages like juice if water isn't refreshing enough. read more

The event was popping. It was a grown, sexy, and colorful vibe. Everything was amazing as soon as I stepped in the door. Literally everyone makes you feel so Karibu(welcomed). The vibes were Amazing and the ambiance was incredible felt like I was in Kenya . From The artwork to that chandelier I was so I aww I can't believe how far Dr Chris and Chad have come (well I can believe it because I saw the footwork they both would put it when they would show up to my past job Alamar years ago) for them to to have their own is just a testament that you can achieve if you believe.. Karibu By Wachira - 2 of my favorite wines. Muscat wine and Pinot Noir Queens Collection by Wachira - Wine Tasting Room Near Me - Alameda, California

Karibu By Wachira feels like being at a family member's home sitting in the living room having a good time laughing, singing along with the live band, (sometimes) dancing, and of course eating all while sipping a nice glass of wine. The vibes are welcoming and the staff is just genuinely nice and always accommodating. The owner(s) are very personable and generally makes it a point to meet or speak to every guest. Karibu By Wachira is truly a place you'll have to check out at least once even if it's just to pop in for the ambiance, you will not be disappointed. read more

My initial introduction to Karibu was as part of the Alameda Wine Stroll. Out of the various wineries participating in the event, Karibu left a good impression, making this past visit my third time. The staff : very welcoming Knowledgeable about wines Knowledgeable about the neighborhood Ambience The decor and feeling of the tasting room is in between a sexy but comfortable place. They offer couch spaces, regular tables and high chair spaces to accommodate different preferences. My favorite is the big chandelier hanging at the entrance. Wines The Wachira flight had a good variety of wine types. It included: Chardonnay, Cabernet and sparklingly among others. My favorite was the Chardonnay. I would highly recommend this place for an afternoon of reasonably priced wines. read more

Karibu By Wachira - Love this Happy Hour, Mimosa, Bellini, and David's Sangria - Wine Tasting Room Near Me - Alameda, California

It's a nice place to stop by and try. I liked the ambiance. The entrance is on the street (not inside the market hall- I suggested that they put a sign on the door). Friendly service, nice atmosphere. Major kudo's to the sommelier for strongly suggesting (and providing a taste) that I taste instead of purchasing blindly- (I just learned that: "natural wine" isn't my thing and learned a lot about natural wine aged 4 years) especially since I was purchasing a bottle as a gift. I wasn't crazy about the reds, but enjoyed the whites and sparkling wine. Nice place. I'll be back! read more

Excellent service and even better wine. The viognier and Dr. Chris are my favorites as I am a huge white wine fan and a selective red drinker. My husband and I enjoyed the company of the community of staff at this establishment, including the captivating stories that were shared. It's a VIBE...If you want a VIBE!! It's a VIBE in this beautiful black owned winery! The sad part is that I didn't even know this placed existed in the heart of the Bay Area (Alameda). I was asked to join my partner in celebrating a friend of his birthday and wahla, this is where we landed. There was a live singer (and boy could he sing his a$$ off), lots of people, wine flight options and more. The ambiance is so culturally beautiful, I just couldn't stop looking around. I would love to go back with some of my girl-friends and check it out for ourselves. I didn't get an opportunity to take any pictures (sad face) so I do apologize for that. But if you near or in the Alameda area do not pass this beautiful gem up! read more

Came here with a big group of friends for some wine tasting a few weeks back. Loved the high ceilings, decor, and casual ambience of the place! I also loved that some of my friends highly recommended it with a strong emphasis on it being Black owned too. We had multiple flights for our group of 10-12 people and appreciated the stories that came along with each wine, especially in regards to tying its characteristics with an animal that could be referenced to within the room. My favorite of the drinks we tried was a sparkling wine that came with lychee! It was sweet, sleek, and refreshing. Considering location, set up, and drink options, I would recommend Karibu to folks who want a lively time without the chaos of a bar or club! read more

I came here last night with a few my friends who are members. I didn't think that we were going to stay until closing but it was so much fun. They had DJ and people were dancing and laughing the whole time. The service was excellent. It felt like every time we were done with one drink another one showed up. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a great time and lots of wine. I like my wine on the sweet side I bought a bottle of mascot. Karibu means welcome in Swahili and this wine lounge completely embodies that! We immediately felt welcome and a part of the family, so to speak. The staff is knowledgeable and provided excellent customer service. And the wine is so good! We got the red flight and each one was unique and delicious. The cab and rose especially were unlike any I have had before. Definitely recommend visiting Karibu if you're looking for an evening to relax, play games, or sing karaoke plus learn about wine and sip something top notch! read more

The Karibu lounge is a place you can really come to relax with your people. It's non-pretentious and has great wine options! They usually have live music on the weekends and sometimes have food pop-ups. If you're planning on eating here, it's best to call ahead because they don't always serve hot food, but always have desserts! The service is great, Marcel and Chad are so friendly and they really work to make the space welcoming. The space features art by local black artists and they often host events like financial literacy events that can help the community. read more

Great vibe. Great music. The charcuterie boards were decent. I really enjoyed the salami dip with jelly. Server gave us nice sized pours. Server constantly checked on us but also spread the pours as our group conversed. Great prices for food and wine. The cab and the Riesling were out favorites. Warm, friendly welcomes when you enter. This place is spacious and very clean. My only advice is if you have a group of 6 or more, they already add the 20% tip. Our server didn't let us know that when we split the payment 3 ways. We just tapped our phone on the handheld thing. I blame myself for not asking to see the receipt but when you come to support your own, you don't think to check the receipt. Anyways, we left a 20% tip on top of the tip already charged. I would've appreciated if the server said "oh we already add a 20% tip for a group of 6, but if you would like to leave anything extra...." Nonetheless, I would visit again. read more

Wachira Wines is such a vibe! I love the staff that works in this area and they have a Chardonnay that I absolutely adore (and I freaking HATE Chardonnay). So that was automatically a plus for me. The first time I went there, I was immediately greeted by one of the staff members who had a smile that was so inviting. I opted for the Red Wine Flight and I learned so much about the business, each wine and some pairings that could go with it. This is something I appreciate because I like to increase my wine knowledge game (lol). They also have food options. In the past year I've frequented this place, there have been some great changes! They started adding speciality cocktails, expanded their wine selection, opened up their shop to allowing kids to come (which I would prefer NOT to bring my kid but sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do hahaha), let you bring in food from the local restaurants and have tons of events to showcase their wines for the community, and for their members. It wasn't a hard decision for me to become a wine member on my first visit. As a member, you get tons of perks, one of them being a free glass at your visit, which I LOVE! It's always an easy choice for me to make when choosing what winery I'd like to visit on any day, whether it be hot or cold :) Thanks Wachira Wines! read more

Wow!! What a great experience. From the moment we walked in we felt so welcome with a great energy from the people working here. We made reservations to come here on Mother's Day and it was a great first experience. We usually travel to Napa but I wanted to stay local this year. Great decision. Chadwick and Marcel were there on Sunday. Marcel welcomed us in and Chadwick gave us a tour, told us about the wine club, and gave us great info about each wine during our tasting. We ordered a charcuterie plate which came pretty wrapped. I really liked that. It was a perfect compliment to our tasting. The location is great, we didn't have any trouble finding parking and the tasting room is beautifully decorated with African art. I can't wait to come back again. New wine tasting room in Alameda, black and female owned business. Just like the owner, the business plays true homage to the African/Kenyan heritage. From the art, the decor and the ambiance. Came to check out this place on a Saturday afternoon- we made a reservation since we weren't sure if a walk in was the best idea ( was fairly busy but could have been okay with just a walk in) their website provides live updates. When you walk in you're welcomed by a friendly staff and a vibrant room. They gave us a full tour and some background and history of the business and the owner. Since it was the first time here we ordered the flights and got a cheese and meat board. What I loved: the music, the ambiance, wine selection and recommendations were great! We enjoyed ourselves as well as the wine and definitely a place I would love to come again when it can open to full potential without Covid measures. What could be worked on: Once we got our orders in the staff kind of forgot about us after checking in once to see if everything was okay. They forgot about out board which we had to remind them and had to flag and wait for our check once we were all done. Worth: you get your money's worth on the wine for sure but for the charcuterie meat and cheese platter I feel like it's underwhelming given that it is $10. They are prepackaged (which I appreciate because of Covid) but has me wondering if the portion would be the same if it were plated. It's almost like a lunchable in size by definitely better in quality! I give this place a 5 because of the ambiance, vibe, friendliness of staff, quality that you get and it's uniqueness. There is still some room for improvement but it is a new establishment so this is to be expected Definitely a spot worth checking out, we loved it, got our money's worth and will definitely be coming back again ! read more

What's good about this wine bar?? EVERYTHING!! The location is great. The atmosphere is great. The Wine Is Great. Shannon and the rest of the bar staff make you feel very comfortable in the space. They are knowledgeable and they introduce you to something different all the time. I'd suggest joining the wine club because the pickup parties are amazing. Outdoor seating is very comfortable. You don't even feel like you're Outdoors because your servers are so attentive that you feel connected to the inside. With indoor seating you're going to be surrounded by beautiful art and images and music and good energy. Even the bathroom is beautiful. Well considering this was my first visit to an establishment that a friend of mine often rave about, left me perplexed after my visit on April 1st. There were 3 of us, we walk in and was seated in the area where the restroom was located. I seen a familiar face that was on staff there and we exchanged greetings etc. Her shift was about to end, however she told us about the special of the day and poured us up. We settled tab with her after 2 glasses of bubbly, and she said that someone else will be taking over and we were okay with that. Well needless to say, our glasses stayed empty, I asked the staff if I could get a glass of chardonnay, I was asked if we settled the tab with Shannon and I told Dave or David that we did, because my sister and friend went walking on Park to find something to eat before they continued with libations. So I stayed behind. The weird part was, a table of 3 people that kept staring at us and we would casually give a smile, then we said that the vibes in there was weird and interesting especially when it was coming from folks that looked like us. So with me reading other reviews and my friend raved about this place was not the same experience for us unfortunately. However the decor was beautiful and the restroom was decent. Maybe I will have to go there with my friend in order to share the experience that others praise about this place. read more

This place is absolutely stunning. Walking in the energy is amazing and so welcoming. We had no reservations but I called in and they were able to accommodate us. I even saw a few familiar faces on the photo wall. I will certainly return and have already referred about 5 people. read more

When I tell you I had a super lovely Sunday afternoon time with The Greats at Karibu this past Sunday, I'm still holding a smile in my heart from the experience. They were such gracious hosts. We ordered the Safari Flight and desserts (desserts are for sure their wine complimenting thing). We toured the space, which is so warm and rich and welcoming (thus the name Karibu). My personal favorites were the Chardonnay and the sparkling. The area also has some complimenting offerings that Karibu is totally in community about sharing recommendations that you can also enjoy with the tasting room. The website says they offer a wine palate that compliments Kenyan cuisine...I think they also offer ambience and vibe that expresses the definition of the name: Karibu. read more

Anytime you arrive to a place where you have to walk through a sea of POC doing the wobble to get a seat it's a great sign. A bright, lively African vibe resonates throughout this soulful establishment. The smile on the face of the server was genuine and she provided quick and attentive service. My conversation with my date kept getting interrupted by the next remarkable song from the DJ. The wine list was selective but tasty.
