All of the closer spots were taken so we had to park in an area where there was tons of rocks and I almost fell at one point. I understand that they are doing construction next door, but they should at least take care of the area where people to need to park for the stores that are open. Anyways, on to the store itself. This location didn't have nearly as much as the Lansing location. The aisles were only have filled. Lame. Maybe since they are newer they didn't get as much inventory? Carrying everything from Adidas to Reebok to Nike, Bob's classic Kicks, is on the forefront of the sneaker craze. Set in a lofty building with high ceilings, this store is open, airy, and hip. Open for nearly three years now Bob's has proven that Detroit, especially the Wayne State student body needs a store like this, locally. What I love about Bob's is just because they are the only sneaker store in this specific area, they remain knowledgeable. They truly want to be the best, and provide customers with an unbelievable experience that includes some serious, but friendly sneaker 101'ing. The customer service rep working explained the concept of the store, asked me what size I normally wear, said "oh, we don't have much in THAT size." She half-heartedly looked a couple of things up and then literally turned her back on me mid-sentence and started talking to somebody else without even a "excuse me" or anything. I went home and looked at the website, and it turns out that Bonobos makes a TON of stuff in my size, and in fact has a whole section on their site devoted to bigger sizes. I'll give the company another shot, but definitely not the Detroit storefront...

This visit to the GM Renaissance Center felt bittersweet. With GM moving its global headquarters to…read morethe Hudson's Detroit building, much of the RenCen is already closed for renovation. Level A - the first floor was closed, and we could only walk around Level 1, with limited access to view the cars from above. For years, this has been one of my favorite spots to bring friends when they visited Detroit. Seeing everything from vintage GM models to upcoming vehicles all in one place always felt iconic. Knowing this was likely one of the last visits before major demolition begins made it feel even more emotional. We'll truly miss this space as we've known it. The change, while disappointing at first, makes sense. The two office towers closest to the river, along with the connecting podium, are slated for demolition. The original 1970s-era design simply no longer fits modern work needs, especially with the shift toward remote and hybrid work. While it's sad to see this space go, the future plans, opening up the riverfront and creating a Navy Pier-style park and entertainment area, give hope that something even better is coming.

Phase one was completed in 1977 with additional towers added in 1981 for a total of seven! Sadly, General Motors decided to relocate its headquarters elsewhere and much of the office space is vacant.
