I did not have a pleasant experience. The program lacks in a lot of necessary skills for being a professional.

We joined the Pawsitive Dog family in early 2021 with some knowledge and expectations given our history with other dogs and trainers. It was obvious from our first interaction that we were in for a much more immersive and rewarding experience than we could have imagined. Not only is the Pawsitive Dog team absolutely awesome with dogs, they are awesome with people... and they are awesome people. They care deeply, give generously, and are fully committed to developing enjoyable, lifelong partnerships between dogs and their people. "The boys" are now 2+ years old, 110 and 120 lbs of joy. With our Pawsitive Dog training, we have built a mutually respectful and rewarding relationship with our dogs. Stubborn by nature, our boys listen and respond well... and often anticipate our instructions. We try to surprise them, often with truly hysterical results (bunny-hop musical crates anyone?). This is just one of the many things we've learned at Pawsitive Dog, where they prepare dogs and their people to respond well to any situation. We've learned to reward what we want repeated, think like dogs, be the leader, use humor, stay calm and don't get angry, and other such gems. Sounds easy, but applying these techniques can be hard. Practicing at Pawsitive Dog classes revealed just how challenging it can be to apply our learning real-time, when it matters most. You don't want to go this alone... and don't have to. With the techniques learned at Pawsitive Dog and the encouragement of the team, we continue to practice, have tons of fun and laughs, and know we have so much more to learn and so many more situations to explore. In summary two words: INVALUABLE and PRICELESS. Pawsitive Dog has our deepest gratitude. We can't say it enough: Thank you Jen, Francis, Aileen and Rebecca!!!

Want to start by saying my dog isn't just some rambunctious puppy who needs to learn sit(they're great for that too!), but a 90 lb, 3.5 yr very high energy & anxious hunting breed, who was in 2 shelters before being rescued. His main issues are leash reactivity with other dogs, walking calmly on a leash, and keeping him from generally going ballistic when seeing dogs/cats/squirrels on leash, behind a window, or in a car. Otherwise, he's actually been a fairly well trained dog in regards to commands and interactions with people. So it's the difficult stuff he needs work with. I couldn't believe it when I picked him up and they had me expose & walk him by other dogs. I'm now able to keep him from escalating past his initial negative signs, and have him stay calmly by my side. I consulted with 3 trainers before choosing to work with them. Ashley was honest and upfront about what to expect, without "selling" us on unreasonable results. You can tell she not only knows what she's talking about, but truly loves & enjoys working with dogs. Leaving your pup away for that long is a little stressful, but they sent plenty of same-day videos of his training, and periodic email updates. The balanced training structure they follow is great, including working with the dogs out in the "real world" of busy Boston, not just from inside a room or in a yard. The best part, is we'll be able to confidentially take our dog out in public again without being hindered by his loud "big dog" outbursts!

The puppy day care only runs to 5 months, so my extremely well socialized 7 month old went into the normal play group. My dog frequents dog parks and has playdates often- all of which have gone swimmingly. She is also in her second training class, and is very smart. When we had our "temperament test" at UH, I expected this to go smoothly as well. I got a call shortly before the day was over that my dog was not allowed to come back until she was closer to 10 months, as she has "too much puppy energy"....I mean, maybe because she's a puppy? When asked what this meant, they told me that she was high energy, and not picking up on social cues. Yes, my 7 month old mix is high energy, I'm not sure whose puppy isn't! However, she has never missed social cues from other dogs she's played with. I have a hard time believing in this one setting she couldn't catch a hint. I respect that maybe my puppy is too energetic for the typical play group at UH, but perhaps extend the puppy age range, especially if you're making judgments related. Safe to say we will not be returning once she's 10 months. We will find a daycare that recognizes a puppy has energy like a puppy!

He is smart and took 2 puppy kindergarten classes, so he knew what we were asking, he just almost always refused to listen to us. He had severe separation anxiety and aggressive territorial/protective behaviors. Our main goals when starting with Kim were to create a better relationship with our pup based on communication, have him come when he's called so we can trust him in off leash situations, limit his separation anxiety, and teach him when and when not to be protective of us. Just 5 weeks later, and we aren't done, we have an obedient and well behaved dog we can take places off leash and trust to come when he's called. He used to be extremely and aggressively territorial of our home and now he knows he doesn't have to be. What sold us to Colonial Dog Training was the lifetime guarantee and the satisfaction that they aren't just looking to take our money and leave even if our dog isn't "fixed", but after just 5 weeks I am extremely satisfied and so happy with the price we paid. Kim has not only trained our dog, but she has also trained us on how to be better dog owners and handle situations. I am not sure where we would be today without Kim and the program at Colonial Dog Training- definitely very frustrated!, but we are extremely grateful for the successful training she has provided our family. Everywhere we go people comment on how well trained our dog is and we joke about how they should have seen him just a month ago! It truly is incredible and I will recommend this training to anyone and everyone with a dog that is looking for a trainer to cover specific needs. We owe everything to Kim and Colonial Dog Training because I know we will have a well behaved and obedient dog for life now!

Do not go here or choose this program! Period. While colonial may be good for dogs who already have issues, it absolutely was NOT the right fit for a puppy. Our puppy came to us at 8 weeks old and we wanted to start his training and routines off from the start and be able to have a professional to ask questions to and look to for guidance. What we got instead was a woman who was super judge mental, used a prong collar to SHANK our dog extremely HARSHLY and told us to tie our dog to his bed for hours, have him in the crate for hours, or leashed to our side. She would shank him for things he didn't even understand he was doing wrong and she did it so hard he'd whimper and tuck his tail and be terrified. This CAUSED a TON of ANXIETY and then aggression as self-defense in our puppy which he has now struggled with his whole life. We had to hire a $4K dog trainer, go to a SPCA Dog behavioralist to put him on anxiety medication and completely re-train him to not be fearful or anxious or aggressive. He still isn't completely confident or able to be fully relaxed or happy. Going through Colonial Dog Training's program is one of my biggest regrets, HARMED my puppy/dog and caused problems that we will be trying to fix for years to come. Sure he learned sit, lay down, and stay, and one-on-one training is good, but he developed severed deeper issues that are even harder and more expensive to address. I understand how difficult it is looking for help and how many options are out there so it can get overwhelming, but I would absolutely tell anyone to not choose this program and instead, take your time interviewing trainers and find one who does not use such harsh negative reinforcements.

Obviously I'm a bulldog parent, they are quirky, stubborn and way to smart to be trained, however Janet knew exactly what to do with them! I called because my baby, Alfie, who just turned one started jumping and nipping his dog walker... we needed to nip that in the bud right away! I adopted a puppy last Saturday who is extremely fearful of everything - seriously, every person, every sound, every little thing. I cannot take her outside without her shutting down and cowering in a corner within 30 second of stepping out my door. I reached out to Compatible Canine and received a message back from Lance within two days who let me know they always start with a consultation. I called the number provided to me and was able to schedule a consult a few days later (he wanted to wait until she had a full week to settle in before meeting her). A few days before my scheduled consultation, I reached back out explaining that my puppy is so fearful (and I don't drive) that it would be really difficult to get her to walk to Compatible Canine. I asked if there was any chance someone could come out to meet her at my place/somewhere nearby outdoors. Lance was able to accommodate and spent an hour yesterday observing my puppy's behavior and providing me with tips. In the first hour I spoke with Lance, I learned SO much. Last night was the first time I was able to sleep with my puppy in the living room with barely any whining and no barking (previously her separation anxiety required me to move her crate into my room each night). Again, we haven't taken a class with Lance yet, but I'm already grateful. We will be enrolling in 2 day classes a week.

It was impossible to walk by other dogs without a huge scene or even people without him growling. Baths and nail cutting were out of the question as the local groomer told me to never bring him back, and when I attempted, he would become aggressive towards me. I have always believed in Kevin and thus have been to A LOT of trainers in search of helping him reach his full potential of being a great dog. Away from his fears, Kevin is the sweetest dog. The number of people who told me he was "incurable" and that I would have to simply manage with what I have the rest of my life left me deflated and hopeless. Then I stopped to chat with a woman who was walking her German Shepherd one day and she told me I had to go see Lance. A week later I was sold. Lance has been a blessing. He has achieved more with Kevin in a matter of months than others said Kevin could accomplish in his entire life. While Kevin still has some work to be done, he now can walk by dogs without a scene, LOVES pets from people and even just this week had his first bath and nail cutting without any issues. Kevin's sister is another shining example of Lance's work. She was returned to the rescue by a family who said she was heavily resource-guarding and acting aggressively. My mom adopted her but was worried she was too much to handle. Since working with Lance, Luna is a new dog and easily the best dog my mom has ever owned. It is not just Lance's abilities to train dogs that are so incredible, he is also there for the owners. He understands and allows us to speak our minds and even vent with frustration about the different obstacles we have faced during the training process. He is ALWAYS available to the owners and truly loves what he does and the dogs he works with. I really cannot say enough great things about Lance and his team. If you are struggling with your dog, Lance is the answer. I rarely write reviews but this one was necessary because I empathize with the difficulty of finding great trainers--Lance is beyond great.
