In January I was a new patient at the watkinsville office. I went there to have three spots removed…read morefrom the left side of my face one of which is eating away at my eyebrow. Instead of removing them and then having a biopsy. They requested biopsy. Biopsy came back negative. Now my insurance company will not cover the removal because they claim it to be cosmetic. The doctor should have removed and if she insisted requested a biopsy now I'm stuck. Additionally I spoke to them about hair loss which I think is a part of my medication regime. I've never had an office make an additional appointment to discuss hair loss. Now I'm told that it will not be covered by my insurance because again the insurance considers it cosmetic. I honestly don't know whether it falls on Athens dermatology group or my insurance but I think there could have been something worked out that these situations would have been taken care of. Just now may 2025 I tried to reach the office and doing so I was connected with three, yes 3, different companies who took care of a different part of the practices business. It's surely feels so they're getting way too big for their britches and their bottom line is not concerned for their patient but concerned for their pocket

Beware if you have a billing issue. They will screw you. I was treated at University Dermatology 6…read moretimes. The first 5 times, they filed claims with my insurance (UHC) and there no problems. After my sixth visit, they began sending me bills that I owed for the entire amount because my insurance wouldn't pay. I talked with UHC and was told they had not denied payment for that sixth visit because they never received the claim from University Dermatology. I was told by University Dermatology they tried to file this claim unsuccessfully multiple times. But UHC has no record of those claims or denying service for me. In fact, I've been to another dermatologist 4 times since then with no billing problems. University Dermatology has now turned over my bill to a collection service. In essence, University Dermatology wants me to pay because they screwed up filing the claim. I visited the office and tried to meet with the office manager. I wrote a letter documenting my billing history and what UHC said. I had a UHC representative offer to join me on a conference call to discuss and the offer was not accepted. Good luck if there is a problem with your billing.

The practice runs like a will managed facility and is evident while I wait in the patient waiting area and hear staff and patient communication. If you need a dermatologist or are looking to change, Dr. Retterbush is the one to see!

Worst dermatologist I have ever been to. All they want to do is throw medication at problems…read moreinstead of actually talking you through what can help. I have been given medication that lowered my blood pressure, medication that has given me rashes and was recommended electrocartery treatment and almost pressured into getting it at that very same appointment instead of giving me advice on what products I could use to help me fix the problem. I called up saying I was unsatisfied with my appointment and told another physician would call me and answer all questions. I had to call back 3 times to make sure they called me!! Whenever they actually did it was a nurse and not the physician I was promised and whenever I asked her questions she told me that was above her license to share. What idiots. Do not go to this dermatologist.

Dr. Cindy Andrews was the absolute best. I had to have a suspicious mole removed on my neck today,…read moreand I have a massive irrational fear of needles. I hardly felt it, and she was calm and compassionate about my fears. The procedure went absolutely smoothly and I no longer am scared of getting other moles removed, as long as she does it. The office as a whole was very nice and understanding of my circumstances, and when I saw there was only a 3 star average review, I literally made this yelp account to give them 5 stars. My experience genuinely changed my outlook on doctors and has massively eased my medical anxiety.

I had to get a spot removed and her MA Ali did an amazing job with the injection I seriously couldn't feel a thing! Peyton's shave biopsy she performed was also perfect and completely painless. I want to start by saying that this office seems more like a med spa than a dermatology practice…read more My 11:00 AM appointment turned into over an hour of waiting (40 minutes in the lobby + 40 minutes in the room) with no communication. The only positive was the front desk staff, they were kind, apologetic, and clearly aware this is an ongoing issue. The doctor rushed in without introducing himself, had poor bedside manner, and made the entire visit feel rushed and dismissive. He stood behind my head the entire time, so I could only hear him speaking, I couldn't see his face, and he wasn't engaging with me directly. I came in with multiple concerns, but most were brushed off or pushed to "next time." The biggest issue was the skin tag removal. They charge $150 for 10, and I had about 13 total (4 large, a couple medium, and the rest very small ones). I clearly stated I wanted the larger ones prioritized, yet smaller ones were removed while the larger and medium ones were left behind. When I pointed out a large one at the end, I was told I could come back and pay another $150 to remove the remaining ones. That wouldn't have been an issue if the smallest ones were left, but instead, my main concern was ignored. When I questioned why the larger ones weren't removed, he blamed me for not pointing them out, which is unrealistic while I'm lying back with my head turned and unable to see the back of my neck. I had already clearly communicated my priorities. I would expect more guidance, common sense and basic awareness from a physician. He then said he would remove it "as a courtesy," but that's not a courtesy if I'm already paying for the service I specifically requested. The response felt defensive rather than accountable. I've had skin tags removed before, and it was quick with minimal discomfort. This experience was the opposite.... it was painful, I could literally hear the scissors cutting each one off, and there was significant bleeding requiring bandaging. He also removed a mole from my scalp, which was extremely painful and left a noticeable open wound. Aftercare instructions were minimal and only provided when I asked. I was told it would be sent to a lab, but it has now been a month with no follow-up on any results. I've left multiple messages and have not received a response. Overall, this felt rushed, unprofessional, and more focused on making money than patient care. I would not trust this practice and would not recommend it!!
