I reviewed a year or so ago noting how excellent, helpful, and friendly the back staff (Dr. Chastain, nurses, assistants) were while mentioning I was routinely noting to self how the reception area might benefit from some lessons in hospitality. Ok, didn't say that exactly but close. Just visited yesterday and want to comment on how friendly and receiving the reception atmosphere felt. An impressive turnaround! And there wasn't even anything exciting or particularly happy going on, just felt valued and appreciated when entering the room. :) Oh, and they have the CUTEST, softest T-shirts... ever. read more

During this pandemic, I was uncertain of the ability of the office to remain open, and to fit me in. They did both, with extreme care in cleanliness and making sure only 1 patient is in the waiting room at a time. I had my annual skin checkup performed this time by the PA. She was professional and answered all my questions. She has a similar 'bedside manner' as Dr. Chastain. I am nearly out of the tinted facial lotion with the high SPF that I purchased there previously. I wanted a darker tint, and I learned that I can get it someplace else. This will help me in the future. I highly recommend this dermatologist practice. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Chastain for 12 years (since college at UGA) and I can't say enough about what a breeze it is. Her waiting room is always full but she always takes the time to address all of my concerns and schedules follows ups promptly. This past thanksgiving I forgot a prescription when we went out of town. Within 5 minutes of my call to her office my script was being filled! You just dont get that type of service in healthcare anymore. Will be a patient for a long time! read more

As a new patient, I visited this practice under the impression the treatment would be covered by a copay. After driving an hour and a half one way, and losing a day of work, I was told that it would only be covered if insurance approved. Don't waste your time with this place. Extremely unprofessional. This practice has the inability to convey accurate insurance information prior to driving an extensive distance. read more

I cannot speak for Dr. Chastain herself. However, I will comment on her staff. Melissa Cannon, her assistant seems to not be aware that she actually has to be cautious of the things that she says. I asked her about some of the marks on my skin at my last visit, and she responded, "Do you know Morgan Freeman? That's exactly how your skin will look." Now, I let that slide. However, here is my reason why I chose not to visit this dermatologist again. For my initial visit, I was placed on accutane to help my acne. They are supposed to give you an iPledge number, but I never received mine. Every time I got my prescription filled, my pharmacist always asked me for my number, and I never had it. After the third month of going back and forth with the pharmacy and the office, my pharmacist was fed up with the staff and I was also. Once again, I will say I cannot speak for Dr. Joy Chastain. However, Melissa Cannon and some of the other staff members makes her practice seem like she should be more selective in the hiring process. read more

Recently went for a skin check since I turned 65. Got a nice greeting when checking in and had arrived before my appointment time so read a magazine until being called back to see the PA named Melissa. Only waited 10 minutes past my appt time. Melissa was very thorough and found a couple of spots she froze and one she will watch. Overall a very pleasant experience. read more

I see a trend in these reviews! All one star, all crappy patient treatment. I figure I'll share my anecdote. Went in last week so they would refill my prescriptions to keep my skin clear. It was a fine visit, quick and easy. However - I let them know I was leaving town for the summer so I just preferred a paper prescription and not for them to call it in. I get home to Maryland and the prescription can't be filled because I'm not eligible for a "refill." But I didn't fill the prescription in the first place! I called their office and asked if they sent the prescription out. First of all, I call and they transfer me to the nurses station where nobody answers. So I call back and the receptionist says "did you leave a message?" No- I'm calling while you're open so I can speak to a human. She transfers me again. The nurse assures me they did not submit the prescription just like I asked. I say they had to have. She starts to get rude and holier than thou. So I call around to the pharmacies in Georgia finally finding out - YEP they submitted my prescription. I wouldn't have cared if she wasn't so rude about it and they just owned their mistake. Instead I had to spend my time calling around to pharmacies I've used. How you treat your patients matters. Guarantee I won't be back. Don't go here!!!! read more

My boyfriend sees Melissa for treatment at Dr. Chastain's office. She's very receptive to new treatment options and willing to answer any concerns you may have. We did have a negative experience calling the nurse's line multiple times and not receiving a call back but Melissa turned that all around and was very apologetic and genuinely concerned. The entire staff was very accommodating and we will be returning for their professionalism. read more

I arrived for my appt. this morning and was told I owed a balance from my visit last summer. Turns out they never updated my address (for the last three years) and I never received the bill. I had left home without my purse and didn't have a way to make a payment so they refused to see me. They made an appt. for later so that I could pay them. I've used Dr. Chastain for many years and I've NEVER not paid. Looking for another doctor as I type this. Very unhappy. One last comment about the unprofessional look of the receptionist - she looked like she just rolled out of bed and she never smiled. It appeared she was either very unhappy with her job or that she lacked a personality of any kind. read more

My husband and I both made appointments to see Dr. Chastain. We both went in for appointments neither one of us met her. We were seen by her assistant. My husband has serious skin issues and Dr. Chastain didn't even show up for the appointment. Couple of his biopsies came back positive and he was told he would need additional dermatological surgery. The office told him they would get back with him to schedule this. We never heard back from them. So after several days we called them back. We were leaving and several weeks and they could not schedule the surgery prior to us leaving so they said they would call around to some other dermatologist to see if they could help us schedule something. They told us they would be back in touch. It's been several weeks now and we've never heard a word. Dr. Chastain's office can definitely remove both of us from her patient list because we won't be returning! I'm sad to say this is not a very professional office and it's certainly not patient or customer centered. read more

My insurance was charged $300 for a test that should have been simple test conducted in-office. (As has been my previous experience at other dermatologist's offices.) Instead the skin sample was sent to a skin cancer specialist in Atlanta. And I discovered that Dr. Chastain's brother works at said skin cancer office. Shady and unethical. When I called the office, I was told I would get a call back. I'm still waiting on that call. read more

I came here for the first time 2 weeks ago. The doctor is fine, nothing wrong with her. BUT I was prescribed medicine and it was never called in to the pharmacy. I called the next week, left multiple messages, talked to multiple nurses/receptionists and still, a week and half later I was without medicine. I eventually had to drive to the office and ask them in person where they very rudely told me that they would call it in. The office is very disorganized and is enough for me to find a new doctor. Not worth the trouble. read more

I have been to Dr. Chastain's office once and I will not return. I had lab work done and was told they would get back to me within a few days. I was planning to leave the country soon and was reassured my medicine would be available before then. When the next week approached, I called to find my results, and was transferred to three different voicemails. None of them returned my call, even though the answering machine guaranteed they would call on the next business day. The woman answering the phone was very impatient with me, even as I explained I was leaving the country within the next day and had been told my medicine would be available beforehand. After calling again, they said they had my results and would call me that day. If you call a second time, expect the receptionist to be incredibly impatient and rushed to get you off the phone. I never received a call before I left for my trip. It was impossible to get a real nurse on the phone who genuinely wanted to help. Also, I was very concerned about my biopsy results, as it could be serious, but the nurses did not share the same concern for me in any capacity or a willingness to help. They have no regard for patient well-being. While Dr. Chastain is great, she has a HORRIBLE team and for that reason I would not recommend this office. read more
