Instead of answering my questions, the clinic suggested I go elsewhere. I found their response rude, dismissive, and completely unnecessary. The difference in customer service standards between Seoul and Boston is honestly ridiculous. In my experience, clinics in Seoul are far more patient, attentive, and willing to educate clients about treatments. Asking questions before committing to an expensive procedure should be perfectly normal, not treated as an inconvenience. If this is how potential clients are treated, I can only imagine what the overall customer service experience would be like. Definitely not a good first impression.

So, she referred me to Dr. Lester. He and his staff are really friendly--in fact, his physician assistant is borderline cheerleader in peppy-ness. Makes a visit a lot less annoying and it makes me wish PCPs and pretty much all other doctors were as attentive and friendly as Dr. Lester and his staff. I do have to say, though, there were Restylane and Botox ads all over the place (as expected at a derm's office), but after staring at them for a good 15 minutes, it really makes you start thinking you have wrinkles where you don't...ah, the power of advertising.

All have been professional, talented, and had good patient skills. Doctors Rubenstein, Smith, and Merola are of particular note. Whether one's care is preventative or to address particular conditions, there are well equipped to cope. The dermatologists also coordinate well with other specialties. Cutting edge research is also an option. I have been in three research studies, and all were well done with entry information, personal care, and follow up. The clinic staff is among the best at Brigham. They are courteous, helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. At check-in and check-out there are always sufficient staff to meet the patient needs. When making the appointment, I didn't feel like I needed to divulge all the reasons why I'm coming to see a doctor to a RECEPTIONIST, so I said I'd like to speak to her about some dermatitis. When I finally had my appointment today, the office assistant was quite adamant that I could only speak to her about the ONE thing I came to speak to her about because they had only allotted enough time for that. So, the doctor just absolutely refused to talk to me about ANYTHING else. It was a serious mind-fuck. Isn't a dermatologist supposed to check your moles or something as part of a routine visit? I felt completely rushed and disrespected - it really ruined my day. And the worst part is that they were so nice and pleasant about the whole thing. I get it. Doctors get paid for procedures they do, not to listen to you complain about how you don't like your complexion. This one will probably be more interested in me when I'm 40 and wanting Botox or skin resurfacing or whatever the fck the bored housewives of Arlington get for their bdays. This was a real disappointment. After reading reviews about a doctor who listens, I experienced something altogether different.

In my case, I decided to see Dr. Hirsch for laser hair removal and a general consult about what daily facial skin regimen would be best for me. The woman is adorable. She is full of energy and possesses a staggering wit. More importantly, she is devastatingly blunt. If what you want is unrealistic, she is going to tell you, and I think that is an extremely important characteristic for someone in her field. Luckily, my expectations were feasible, and after a thorough chat about my skin and what over the counter products I could use to keep me looking younger longer (which, although admittedly rather expensive, have been working like a charm!), I was ushered out to schedule the actual appointment for my procedure. The ensuing appointment was just as great as the consult. I am sure I looked slightly nutty in protective eyewear (lasers are bright!), a medical gown, and a hair cap. Yet somehow, Dr Hirsch put me at ease. She even gave me a stuffed animal to hold on to during the procedure. The day after the procedure I was surprised by how red the treated areas looked. It was a little scary! I called the office and the office manager took my information. Soon after, Dr. Hirsch rang my phone and walked me through my concerns. The redness was normal, but she was never condescending, and she even called me each day for 2 days thereafter, just to make sure I was doing well! And the results of the procedure?.... SO GREAT!! I will definitely consult Dr. Hirsch for all of my dermatology and cosmetic concerns in the future.
