Love this spot! It's so fun because you can find books, cards, Knick knacks, posters, tea, and really fun things. Staff is helpful and nice too. They have such an amazing selection of cards, I've been in there a few times thinking they had a lot but never made it all the way to the back where they have EVEN MORE Kards. They also have a variety of small business items for sale as well as niche board games (golden girls version of clue). The staff isn't overly friendly but they get the job done when it's time to check ouy. read more

Kards Unlimited is way more than a stationary shop. This is the shop of my dreams! If I were local, this would be a staple in my gift giving rotation and a place I would stop in regularly just to browse and see what treasures I could find. I was hooked the moment we went in. Not to mention, it's in a highly walkable part of the Shadyside neighborhood. Where to start -- books, novelty toys, stationary, metaphysical supplies, drinkware, candles, ornaments, Pride memorabilia, gag gifts, beautiful gifts, puzzles, posters...I'm trying to run through in my head everything I saw, but I guess the moral of the story is, if you can't find it anywhere, you won't anywhere. Something that stands out to me was truly the book collection. The concept of reading physical books is getting so lost in today's world. I loved the way the books were organized, that the staff had recommendations, and there was a community of readers camped out in sections exchanging dialogue about books. This in itself is so rare in 2023. Kards Unlimited is the best! read more

This place cracks me up every time I walk inside. It has so many wild and crazy items, yet it's remarkable how organized it is too! Everything is located in its own zone - Harry Potter stuff all in one spot, greeting cards all in the back, books all along the wall on the left, etc. So neat and tidy!! And the squeaky floors add so much character. It's so charming! Just keep in mind that it's a very narrow little shop, so it can feel crowded with only a few people in the same area. Probably not ideal for someone who doesn't like tight spaces. It's also a little on the pricey side, but I think the quality makes it more than reasonable. I love coming in here and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves funny, quirky stuff! *me raising my hand way up high read more

I've visited Pittsburgh as a tourist on a few occasions, and Kards Unlimited has been one of my most memorable experiences! I've enjoyed shopping here on subsequent visits to Pittsburgh, and it's really an impressive shop with a wide array of products for nearly any occasion. Great selection of funny and unique greeting cards, a nice section for Harry Potter and other mystical items, games, silly socks, books, and so much more. Definitely worth a visit to Walnut Street to spend time exploring this shop. The checkout process seems extremely outdated and does slow down the process considering what a busy and popular store this can be, but otherwise no complaints! read more

I ordered their funny Kards Unlimited's holiday cards online just a few days before Christmas, and I couldn't believe how fast they got them to me -- right on time to give to family over for dinner on the Big Day. The products were as described and were safely and beautifully packaged as well. I've now gone back to order the incredible "Disappearing" Mugs they carry, including the Birds on a Wire and Bob Ross painter mug, which change color once you pour tea, coffee, or cocoa into them! I'm so happy to have discovered this shop. J.T. Molloy author, "The Greatest Beer Run Ever" read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Kards Unlimited until now!! I've been coming here for years and while they have a great book selection, I am in love with their enamel pin collection! It's the best I've seen in the burgh! If you're into collecting pins, I highly recommend stopping by here to checkout them out. Some of my favorite pins have come from here including my Starcourt Mall pin and Mr Rogers sliding trolley pin. This spot has been around for as long as I can remember, and while I'm not in the area often, they're definitely worth a stop if you're looking for a different, or quirky gift. They do have a large selection of enjoyable cards, but the first half of the shop has always been what gets my attention. They have a huge selection of items that you just do see too often. They have novelty oven kits, magnets, coloring books, games, etc. Considering that the store is a bit cramped, they make good use of offering a really wide range of books. This place is nowhere near the size of a B&N, but I personally find myself looking through their book selection far longer than I would a huge, chain store, just because of they offer the type of books you just don't see too often. This is a great spot if you're looking for something different for yourself, or a friend. It's definitely worth a visit. read more

Love shopping here when I'm in the area. Love the unique selections!! I have found many gifts the recipients have loved!

I absolutely love this card store! I'm a sucker for a charming novelty store. Walking into Kards Unlimited is a sensory overload. The aisles are stacked high with all sorts of stuff! This is my go to place to get a greeting card. They have such an amazing variety for every occasion. I also love that they feature local card makers as well. While some the more boutique cards are rather pricey they do offer cheaper cards in the back of the store. Customer service is always great. Polite and friendly staff. This store has pretty narrow aisles and when it's crowded it can be a little overwhelming so I would suggest going during non peak hours-avoid weekends. Definitely a great place to check out! read more

Probably my favorite store in all of Pittsburgh. Could happily spend hours going through everything here. They're not just great for gag gifts, but they also carry cards and stationery, gift wrapping, jewelry, t shirts, books! (like real books), games, socks, soaps, and even some beauty products. I happen to love the BlueQ socks, check em out you'll see what I mean. They're sold in other stores too but they have a good selection here. It's always a fun time in here. read more

Walking in here is like walking into the room of requirement - if you wander around long enough you'll eventually find whatever greeting card, book, or tchotchke you've always been searching for. They have a fantastically curated selection of books - ranging from a huge collection of agatha christie, fantasy novels, and new prize-winning fiction. They have a hilariously charming wall of funny candles, of which i connected most with the scent called "hot mess". This is the perfect place to get lost in for an hour or so! This place is also family owned and i would always rather come to a local business like this than buying from big box stores or amazon. read more

This store in Shadyside is amazing! It goes beyond cards not to say they don't have them. They are all the way in the back of the store. They have virtually everything you name it. There's Tee shirts, books, coloring books, a children's area, ceramics, holiday ornaments and some things which I would label with foul language on it including socks. It does hold a great variety of things that can have you wandering here for hours. They do warn you about touching breakables. I was intrigued with a Sgt Pepper drumhead ornament. Yes, they have the Yellow Submarine ornament but I've seen too much of that. They even have lunchboxes in that shape. I opted for the drumhead. The lady cut it down and properly boxed it for me. Speaking of lunch boxes there's a bunch of Star Wars and other series available as well. Prices vary on what you want to spend. Since they have so much for you to choose from I asked about Hamilton merchandise. They carry the book "Hamilton the revolution" which I already own. This is a great shop just to browse. The aisles can get a bit crowded so take you time and enjoy. They have things both above and below you. Located on Walnut St in Shadyside it is right in the heart of the business district. read more

Man. Alive. What a store. What a fun, fun, edgy, edgy, cool, cool store. Spencer's has been rendered impotent for as far as novelty inventory goes, Kards Unlimited just goes on and on and on...quite literally. Exactly at the moment one thinks he or she has seen everything KU has for sale, there's simply more to see, KU being a pocket universe in itself with seemingly infinite, whimsical depth. It's a card store. A book store. A subversive, intellectual toy store. Action figures of lunch ladies and Sigmund Freud can be purchased. There are graphic novels. T-shirts. Posters. Bath products. Odd items for your pet. Journals. Stationery. It is the Johnson Smith catalog come to life and co-managed by Ivan Stang, Grant Morrison, and Robert Crumb. Get lost in Kards Unlimited, for hours and hours, as if time can be measured in such a place. P.S. I think Kay and I spent more time in here than we did perusing what was for sale at the Shadyside Arts Festival, which is what brought us to the area. read more

Best selection of cards and notions in the city. Lots of blank cards, which are my go-to option anyway!

It's such a cheeky little bookstore in the heart of Walnut St. They have a really impressive selection of books, greeting cards, and knick knacks. Every time that I visit, I'm always impressed with the sheer amount of stuff that I can find that I wasn't aware that I wanted. I love it here. I can spend hours here (I can also spend my entire paycheck here). This is my go-to place to go if I'm looking for a creative gift. It's a one-stop gift shopping experience. Books? Check. Cards? Check. Fancy soap? Check. A what would Jesus wear magnetic dress up kit? Check! Everything is sort of packed in and aisles are narrow so it can get a little claustrophobic/overwhelming especially if there are a lot of shoppers in the store. The mild panic is worth it though! read more

I feel like the best description for this store is "knick knack heaven." The variety of stuff that you can browse through during a visit here is pretty cool, and most of it is quirky in nature - which is a huge plus in my book. Let me give you a brief overview and guided tour of Kards Unlimited. When you enter, you'll immediately see an array of gag gifts, pop culture t-shirts and the like in the main area of the store. If you turn left after entering, you'll be able to start browsing through the book collection. Most of the books here are fantasy, sci-fi, comics, YA books - things of that nature - although there's also often some classic literature pieces and other genres available as well. (But in my experience most of the books are more modern or at least relate to modern culture trends, i.e. certain superhero comics appear more often when a certain superhero movie hits theaters.) Keep going past the bookshelves, and you'll start to find stuffed animals, Harry Potter house scarves, and similar doo dads that will satisfy a little kid you're shopping for (or even just your own inner kid). Keep going further, and you'll start to find the calendars, note books, journals and even ornaments. And finally at the back of the store, you'll find the enormous collection of gift cards that the store name presumably refers to. As others have mentioned, the cards vary in nature from traditional to wild in nature - so you'll most likely find something here for any friend or family member, if you give yourself the time to browse. Personally I think the stock in the rest of the store is just as much fun to browse through and explore, because the variety of stuff they collect and sell is just fascinating - there's everything from ordinary stuffed animals to "Wizard Of Oz" figurines to "Star Trek" toys...and so so so much more. That's the basic tour and overview of Kards Unlimited, and I honestly don't think it does a good job explaining just how much different stuff you can find in here. I know that sometimes stores that try to cram too much onto their shelves can seem chaotic and disorganized, but the set-up this store has really works for them, somehow. There's something here to appeal to traditional, wacky and geeky personalities alike, and because of that they're definitely worth visiting again and again when possible, just to see what other items they've added to their stock. I admittedly don't buy a ton here because of the prices, but I do still love them as a window shopping store and will absolutely jump at the chance to splurge on anything unique I find here. Who knows - maybe I'll make another great find during my next visit here? read more

Oh. My. Goodness. This was my first time visiting Kards Unlimited and I am totally OBSESSED!! First of all, I am a huge Harry Potter fan and they have an entire section dedicated to Harry Potter. I purchased a Maraduer's map scarf that was only $19, which I felt was a great price compared to other boutiques I've been to! They had the best trinkets there, millions of cards for all occasions, and hilarious gag gifts. I think I could have spent a solid hour in this place- it feels like the store just keeps going on and on (in a good way)! In addition to all of the novelty gifts, they also have a nice selection of current novels, which is always a bonus! Great boutique, great staff!!! read more

Going into this store is like going into a vacuum. You loose all track of time. That's not a bad thing. I started in the traditional card section and slowly made my to the homemade, more explicit card section. I didn't even take time to examine all the calendars and knick knacks they had because I was too enthralled with all the cards to choose from. Between here and Wildcard, I doubt I'll ever step foot back into a Hallmark store. Better quality in cards and the staff are excellent. read more

I think that I spend about 40% of my paycheck here. Everytime I stop in to pick up a birthday card, I end up leaving with a whole bag of items that I never knew I needed--but definitely did. The card selection is INSANE. You'll be able to find the perfect card for every person or occasion. Have a friend who loves Star Wars? There's a card for that. Do you share a mutual love of tacos with your cousin? There's a card for that. Quitting a job and want to really tell that boss to shove it? There's a card for that. There's also an amazing assortment if trinkets, gag gifts, wrapping supplies, and nerdery. If you have a present that you need to buy, you'll be able to find it here. Also check out their book club! read more

I try to take everyone that visits me here to explore and kill some time. It is so fun to just browse in here and look at all the fun random stuff! Their cards are fantastic you can literally find something for every occasion and every personality. We have a blast just reading as many cards as possible. There is tons of other stuff: candles, ornaments, shirts, books, soap, lotion, baby onesies, jokes, games, posters and the list goes on. The isles are small and crowded so be mindful. I love this store. It's so great for a last minute gift idea - so many unique and funny items. It's also got a great selection of books (would love more, but I'm pleased). One of the key pieces of this store is the wide range of cards they have. The vibe in here is "Mom & Pop" store and I love that about it. They've also got a bunch of Pittsburgh paraphernalia, but not like Steelers/Penguins stuff. I don't like the sports teams, but I love Pittsburgh so I always find something to represent my city that doesn't involve Black & Gold. read more

Kards Unlimited feels like a store you'd see in a great indie romance movie, about a hip 20 something couple. Kards Unlimited is a book nerd's heaven! They not only sell a ton of really cool and hilarious cards for any occasion, but they sell all kinds of knick-knacks like posters, toys, coffee mugs, beer glasses, t-shirts, (some of which may be appropriate or inappropriate) and SO MANY BOOKS. Since there are not many book stores or other gift shops like this around Shadyside, I often end up getting gifts and cards for friends, family, etc. from this place. Since bookstores are not the cheapest place to purchase books or other souvenirs, you will end up spending a little more money than if you would order the same item on Amazon. I found myself in the Pittsburgh area this Christmas season on a quest for an ornament to exemplify our trip and mark the year. Of course I immediately turned to Yelp for help and Kards Unlimited popped up to the top of the list as a place to find ornaments. A quick read of the reviews, a tap on the directions button and I was on my way. I was there two days before Christmas and the store was all a buzz. There was a line halfway through the store which moved quickly. This store has tons of choices. Books, cards, toys, jewelry, knick knacks and - ornaments. The first one to catch my eye was two turtle doves. It wasn't what i was looking for but it did satisfy another quest I am on. I also liked a set of decorative yet functional measuring spoons. I thought it would make a nice ornament. They displayed their collection of ornaments with fishing line tacked to the ceiling with plenty of "ask for assistance" signs. I also noticed a sign that explained the meaning behind their pickle ornament but unfortunately they were out of these. Had they had these in stock, I suspect my quest would have been complete. The sales Team was helpful and polite without rushing even when the store was full. The shelves were neat and the store had a pleasant atmosphere. If I lived in the area I would definitely be a regular. [On the Second Day of Christmas my true love gave to me... Two Turtle Doves December 2102 Yelp Challege] read more

I couldn't help but laugh out loud the first 30 seconds I walked through the door. Super savvy, humorous and fun: This is one novelty shop you don't want to pass up!
