Ordered Beef Curry, Chicken Korma, Onion Bhaji's, Naan Bread. Curry was nicely spiced, big chunks of well simmered beef. The chicken was delicious. Everyone liked the Bhaji's! Was ready quickly ( 15 minutes ) on a Saturday night. Will order again, it was great. read more

Yesterday night, i.e on 7th Jan, 2023, we took a takeout from the Kanata outlet of Karara. Not only this would definitely be our last order from Karara but I have serious concerns on the food safety here. The raita that was given, not only was super sour or stale but it was jelly like moldy yogurt. I was not expecting this and tried it spoonful and had my share of stomach problems. Thanks I tried it before we gave it to our kid. The Naan was too much under-baked; we had only the outer sides and throw away the inside which was raw. I am not going into the taste of the food, which can be vary based on individuals preference; for me the biriyani was just a masala rice and has no relation to biriyani of any nature from any part of India. Butter chicken was ok, eatable at least. Most concerning is the food safety concern rather than the taste. Good that Ottawa now has much better options and we dont have to depend upon these outliers. read more

The food is much below average. Chicken Manchurian was simply strips cooked in chili sauce that you can find in the grocery store. Lamb kadai was chewy and masala was poorly cooked. Complete waste of money. I would not order from there again. read more

Unfortunately, theirs no such thing as zero stars which I would have rated this restaurant. I went to their store about 5 times now in the past few months, and each time I walked back empty handed with no food. I'm shocked at this horrendous quality of customer service. The same guy is usually present when I arrive, with no smile or even a simple hello. I went several times for 12 to 15 samosas and each time they sent me back empty handed stating that they were on a break. Why is your restaurant open if you're on your break? I think it's more a matter of placing an order that doesn't hit a certain caliber for the total billing amount which is why they sent me back. The same employee that refuses to serve me is who I suspect may be the owner, but if not I highly recommend giving the man a warning or better yet, firing them on the spot because their business is in grave danger if my past experiences are also shared with other customers. Business is being lost, money isn't being made, and reputation is being damaged because of a consistent denial of service. Is it out of laziness that service isn't being given or an issue of discrimination? If you really are on a break, why isn't it listed on your google page that you're not open for such an such time. And if you haven't made the edit yet, why didn't you tell me at your store that break was going to be over in x amount of time to return for an order in any of my visits? Restaurants are meant to greet their customers at first sight, and I can honestly say not ONCE was I greeted. This time around, the man working in front had NO MASK. I'm going to do myself a favour and completely avoid not just this Karara location, but now the entire chain, and I suggest you do the same. read more

we placed an order online at 3pm as we were starving, from having missed lunch. The earliest delivery time was 4pm. An hour later we get a call saying that they open at 4 and delivery didnt begin til 5. Fair enough, but why not have a pop up or something to let everyone know that? A definite no. Ordered their Punjabi Tahlli special for delivery and and some Tandoori Roti to go along with it. The special comes with 2 curries and some other odds: rice, a "salad" and some naan. Opened up the package and immediately knew I was in for disappointment. Barely any rice at all to fill a single plate.. really? It's only rice. Took a look into the beef curry and butter chicken. Each had "literally" 2 tiny pieces of meat in them, swimming in sauce. I mean literally two cubes of meat about maybe 3-4 cubic cm (if so much) in dimension. No bigger than a Costco sample. Seriously. I was in disbelief. The "salad"? Some shredded bits, tossed into a corner of the plastic tray it came in. Made it's way straight to the bin - just insulting. Here's the deal, I won't normally leave a review if I've had a bad experience. I'll chalk it up to the way things are and move on. But there's no absolutely way having just had that experience, that I could sit by and just let that happen to someone else. At the very least maybe they will change something going forward. We ordered Naan and Butterchicken. When we went to pick it up the person serving at first had no clue of our name or what we had ordered over the phone. Eventually when we did get home and tried the chicken it was tasteless and watery. The Naan was too thin and limp . We decided to give them another chance and ordered chicken korma and chicken tika masala with garlic naan and some fish pakora. We explicitly stated that we wanted them extra mild. They were too hot to eat. We both enjoy spicy food, but this is very spicy. I gave them 2 stars because it was fast and they were friendly and the fish pakora was excellent. reached home, it was goat biryani. When I called the restaurant, she mentioned that mistakes happen. Instead of feeling sorry for what happened, they want me to bring back the biryani to show as the proof that I didn't lie. When we want there, the cauliflower biryani was not ready. We had wait another 15 min for that. When I asked for a compensation for this (at least a discount or a refund), the guy was so rude.He asked why he should give the refund. I mentioned whey I had to pay for his mistakes by travelling there 2 times and waiting, he said how many kilometres you travelled. He was so ill mannered and don't know what customer satisfaction means. He mentioned that owner didn't want him to give the refund.He was not willing to allow us to talk to the owner. He used very bad language. He came out and spoke to the owner by calling a different branch number and spoke to her. She is a very sweet and loyal person. She was very sorry for what happened. But I had to write this review which will help other people. Vegetarians, beware. Mistakes so happen there always!!. I read couple of other reviews that they were rude. I think its time that the owners take a strict action and make sure this doesn't happen with other customers. read more

We thought we would try this as it was on our way home. Wait time for our order was fine - 20 minutes but that was as good as it got. The Vindaloo chicken was watery with about 6 chunks of chicken. We like hot and spicy and this was neither - it was medium hot and the spice was lacking. The vegetable korma, which was to be medium, was simply frozen vegetables thrown in a sauce. The sauce had a bit of spice, bit of hot but was not a good korma. We are regular Indian food eaters and I could not recommend this to anyone who has eaten "real" Indian or wants to try something authentic. read more

We had ordered Chicken Pakora, Garlic/butter Naan, Chicken Tikki Masala, Vegetable Biriyani and Aloo Mattar. My kids and I concluded that the food was ok, not great. We love to eat and try different things and are not normally picky eaters. However, we found that the spices were overwhelming especially when moving from one dish to another. For me, in the end, everything started tasting the same. I am not familiar with Indian food so I don't know if this is how it is supposed to be. I have to say this time I was disappointed. We've been ordering from karara pretty much ever since it opened and the food has always been consistent. Tasty, abundant and consistent. Delivery was always quick. Last night, I signed in to my already existing online account and ordered pretty much the same items we normally do. I received a phone call a few minutes later telling me one of the items was not available and they would substitute with something else. I said ok. Nearly an hour later I received another call asking me for my address! My order was done online so my address was already there! . Guy sounded like he had no clue where we located even though we are close by in the same town. Food finally arrived well after 1 hour we had ordered and I must say everything tasted different. The onion bhaji was limp instead of the usual crispness. The saag paneer was "Ok" but the cheese was big pieces the needed to be cut unlike the usual small chunks we are used to. Butter chicken tasted sweeter than usual and was missing that little nip of spice it always had. Even the naan bread was stingy. We would usually get 2 nice big pieces enough for leftovers. This time there was just enough for 1 meal. So all these differences led us to believe that the business must have been taken over by new people. I sure hope they realize the quality is suffering or they will lose all the business I'm sure the previous owners worked hard to gain. read more

The Karara takeout place has not failed to disappoint me regardless of which location we have visited. I was hoping this one had a better chef than the other two locations, but sorrowfully, that is not the case. Just detailing my experience at this location. I ordered a meal for 1, which constitutes of two curries - they were the chana masala and the mutter paneer. The chickpeas in the chana masala were not well cooked, and were hard to eat. The mutter paneer was disgusting. Believe it or not, it seemed from the taste of the curry that they had either used a ready-to-eat packet of the curry, or used the ready made Indian curry pastes that you get from Loblaws for the preparation of the dish. The naan was good, and you can't really go wrong with plain rice. Being an Indian myself, I am very well versed with Indian food, and it is extremely hard for me to understand how people can make Indian food taste so bad. read more

ALLERGY! I told them I had a nut allergy when I ordered and after 2 bites my throat went extremely itchy and obviously had a reaction to the food. They told me they had no nuts and the food contained no nuts. DO NOT tell your customers there is no allergens in something when it obviously contained. Lucky for me I had Benadryl handy and an Epipen by my side. Other people might not be as lucky and someone could die. I would not recommend eating here, shame shame shame. read more

I ordered four entrees, three mild and one hot, as well as four naan. The order was ready for pickup in 30 minutes as they said. The mild dishes were a bit spicy, but my family enjoyed them, my hot dish was excellent. The naan was very good. I will definitely order from them again. If you don't have a taste for some spice, be sure to order as mild as they can make. I asked for hot and it was very enjoyable, not inferno. read more
