We had already had some food at home and were looking for some good naans and rotis and picked up a vegan Mixed Vegetables curry just in case. The inside is clean and new. Carrom Boards available for patrons to enjoy. Glad that they knew what dishes are vegan or can be made one. The naan is not and roti is vegan if taken without butter. The naan and rotis were good and just as Punjabi restaurants in GTA (Brampton?). The vegan mixed vegetables curry was a huge disappointment. Not great tasting and bit more In the greasy side. Food is so good! Best Indian food we've been able to order in Ottawa. We ordered through Skip the Dishes so can't speak to the ambiance or service but the food was excellent. I do wish the dishes came with a bit more substance vs sauce (there was so much sauce in both chicken and paneer dishes we ordered that I made dinner the next night with the leftover sauce). The naan is amazing and the rice was good. Definitely recommend giving them a try. So far they are the closest an Indian restaurant in Ottawa has come to having their mild dishes be actually mild. Always incredibly good. The food, that is, and the owners who always greet me with a welcome back smile. My staple is the tandoori quarter legs. 3 for $10. You can't beat that. Anywhere. More so when it's this delicious. I brought a fellow foodie with for today's visit. We were served goat curry, butter chicken, rice, garlic naan, and of course, my 3 pieces of chicken. Now, about the decor. My wife says that she always judges a restaurant by the curb appeal and the way it's been decorated on the inside. I'm almost the opposite. So far, with a few exceptions, if the decor is great, the food is a let down. It's almost as if they've put more into the way the restaurant looks, and ran out of energy when it came to the menu. It's no wonder there are tv shows dedicated to places that have great food, and not so great decor. My foodie friend had comments about the decor. It was at this point that I disclosed my philosophy about decor as described above. Very flavorful chicken tikka masala. One of the best garlic naans I have ever had! The rice was how it is supposed to be and the portion was generous (I couldn't finish my plate or naan!) The missing star is driven by the venue that is too much of a hole in the wall for my comfort. It was so cold it was uncomfortable and the bathrooms are located inside a groomer shop. Brampton has become the main place we go for Indian now in Ottawa. I'm still a big fan of Little India Cafe but the price, taste, and location (close) of Brampton makes it hard to pass up. Now, to be fair, it isn't perfect. I am not a fan of their meat curries (they seem like poorer cuts of meat with, say, more fat) and some of their veggie dishes taste like they use frozen veggies. But I'm a huge fan of their vegi thali meal. Rice, three curries, small dessert and naan bread. Their thali's come with raita which I'm not a fan of so I ask them to replace it with something else. And their naan bread is by far some of the best in the city, if not the best. Add a veggie samosa and you can eat a lot of food for about $15. In terms of their main plates, as we ten to stick to the thali's, we don't order them as much anymore but their eggplant is quite good. In terms of location, the have seating for probably about 20 with some small tables on an upper level but I think most people order out. If you do walk in, they are generally faster then they say they will be. There is parking directly out front but you are better off parking in the lot next to the restaurant closer to Woodroffe. So, if you are looking for a decent, quick fix of Indian food, I say give it a chance. read more

Having been in Scarborough most of life, I can say that I have pretty high standards when it comes to Indian and Sri Lankan food. From the minute you walk in, you can tell that this is a family run restaurant, and it's more of a take out than a sit down place. Its appearance is deceiving: the food here is fantastic. I have to say that this place has the best biriyani I've ever had. I ordered the goat biriyani and the rice is fluffy and beautiful. The meat is tender and juicy. There is so much flavour packed in with each bite. And you get so much raita!!! It's better than the biriyani I've had in Scarborough (but don't tell my friends I said that). This place really doesn't look like much from the outside. I've driven past it hundreds of times and not even batted an eye. Then one day, Sitting in traffic, I noticed this amazing smell and it turns out, I might have found my favorite Indian restaurant in Ottawa. Again, very unassuming, but remember what your mother used to say? "Don't judge a book by it's cover!" How true this statement is, and how wrong I was. The food isn't by any means fancy, but it's delicious and the food is top quality. I have a feeling they don't have a ton of dine-in patrons, but, for those that do decide, I don't think they mind the dated décor one bit. Food is what we've come for, food is what we'll get. These are not Brampton hole-in-the-wall prices. These are sit-down restaurant prices - $14 for biryani rice, for example. Looking around you, you have to wonder: Should I be spending almost a C-note on take-out for three from a joint like this? This place reminded me so much of the Indian sweet shops that are common in the Toronto area. The selection of food is rather impressive with enough to satisfy any craving. There is also a wide selection of Indian sweets laid out at the counter which is something I have yet to see in Ottawa. We got one goat curry, chicken curry, vegetarian biryani and spinach paneer. Taking advantage of the name of the restaurant, I asked that the dishes be fully spiced like in Toronto and was not disappointed! All were delicious, particularly the meat curries - they don't scrimp on meat or on flavour. The heat of the dishes was perfectly balanced to allow for the food's flavour to come through without sacrificing spiciness. The woman at the counter was friendly and courteous. I just got takeout from here today and the food is really good! I got 2 Non-Veg Thalis ($8.99 each). Each comes with Butter Chicken, Goat Curry, Chickpea Curry, Basmati Rice, Naan, Raita and a Gulab Jamun. The Thali comes in a plastic Bento-like box or as my husband said it looks like "an over-sized airplane meal." So it's one big rectangular plastic container with separate compartments for each item. I've never had takeout in a container like that, and I have to admit, I was a little fascinated by it. The naan was separate and wrapped in aluminum foil, by the way. The Butter Chicken was full of boneless chicken pieces and rich buttery sauce (so good). The Chickpea Curry had a very deep and strong curry taste to it. I loved it. The Goat Curry was the spiciest curry of the three, but not too spicy. It was flavourful and tasty, but I didn't like all the bones and tendons. The Basmati rice was nicely cooked, not too mushy nor too dry. The naan was the best naan I have had in Ottawa. Very blistery but not burnt (I hate it when there are black spots - this naan had no black spots). I'm not a huge fan of Raita in general, so for what it is, it was good. My Gulab Jamun was covered in Butter Chicken sauce! Since the compartments in the container are not completely segregated, there is some cross-contamination. I don't mind having some Goat Curry sauce in my Butter Chicken, or some Chickpea Curry sauce in my rice, but Butter Chicken sauce on my Gulab Jamun was weird! I suggest that they put the dessert in a separate container altogether to avoid this problem. All in all though, I loved everything. (They put the rectangular plastic container inside a cardboard box, so everything is well insulated and my food was still really hot when I got home). The portion sizes are large. The price is excellent for Ottawa. And the food is delicious. Plus, the staff are very friendly. They also sell raw meats here, but I didn't get any. This place is on Meadowlands at the corner of Woodroffe. It's on the other side of the parking lot of where the Quiznos used to be. I think Mr. Mozzarella is still in the same strip mall. I think a convenience store was where Brampton Meats is now. Anyway, there is a small parking lot next to the store. If you like good inexpensive Indian food, you should give this place a try. Finally some great authentic Punjabi food in Ottawa. Love it !!! Brampton Meats recently opened on the corner of Meadowlands and Woodroffee and we found out about the joint from some friends who were there on the day of open - 31st Jan, 2014. We stopped by on the 1st of Feb, 2014, and to say that we were impressed would be an understatement. The place is shining clean, has absolutely the best assortment of Punjabi meats and Punjabi staple food in Ottawa, with amazingly hospitable proprietors. Ravinder and Navneet took the time to walk us through all the offerings (lots to choose from vegetarian and non-vegetarian) and had us try some of the cuts that we had not tasted before. We ended up carrying out 2 meat dishes and 2 vegetarian thalis - all reasonably priced and very well presented. The naan that came with the dishes was fresh out of the oven and the yogurt/raita was tastttttttttttyyyyyy. We ended up eating everything the same evening in one go. Hands down the best Indian food spot in Brampton...I mean Ottawa. I haven't visited an Indian takeout spot in Ottawa that has yet to hit the money on cost & quality as Brampton Meats has. I usually order their Lamb/Goat Biriyani, some fresh marinated tandoori chicken pieces for the grill, and a few samosas to start - all very fresh, flavourful, and authentic! I have also tried their curries and naan which are also great and rich in flavour, especially the butter chicken, and stuffed keema naan. The owner is also very friendly and helpful..definitely my go to spot for Indian food from now on...and probably for work event catering as well! The only suggestion I have is to maybe knock it off and stop confusing us all with the restaurant name, we're in Ottawa not Brampton..but I guess who really cares, food is great. read more

Heard good things about this a few sources, and decided to organize a take-out run with a few co-workers this past Thursday. Order included 3 non-veg thali, 2 veg thali, med chicken curry & rice, med goat vindaloo & garlic naan, paneer tika wrap, and dahi bhalla. Everyone who ordered said they would definitely do this again, and several others asked to be included for the next take-out run based on the smell of the office alone. My only complaint was with the vindaloo; while the sauce was *amazing* ... perfectly spicy, and yet extremely flavourful, however the goat was mostly bone. Don't get me wrong ... while don't expect boneless, some meat would have been appreciated. However, I will definitely be back to give some other dish a try based on this experience. And yes, I am giving it 5 stars regardless of that issue ... after having spent 10 years in the GTA and 2 now in Ottawa, I've been dying for some 'authentic' GTA-style Indian food :) read more

I ordered Goat Biriyani via Skipthedishes. The good part: The rice had a nice ghee fragrance to it. The bad parts: I wish the goat meat was more tender, it was seriously hard to chew. The rice to meat ratio was absolutely horrendous as if they were trying to be cheap. I had only 5 really small pieces of meat of which two of them were bone cartilages. Ordered delivery from this place tonight. We got chicken korma, dal, goat curry, vegetable byriani and cheese naan. I honestly have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about. The cheese naan was obviously microwaved (it was absurdly soggy and had taken on the texture of microwaved bread), the korma was only about a quarter filled with chicken (the rest was sauce) and had basically no flavour, the dal was just generic spicy. The worst was the goat curry though. It had a thick layer of oil on top and almost no curry sauce. Overall, so unappealing that we ended up just throwing it out and ordering from Swiss Chalet. By far the best Indian restaurant in Ottawa. Forget about Brampton/GTA, their food reminds you of the tastes from India. I got the Amritsari kulcha with choley. It was delicious and filling. Also got some sweets as well and they seemed fresh. Prices are extremely reasonable (most dishes are around $10). The owner and his wife are lovely and they seem to care a lot about their customers. When they made an extra Amritsari kulcha by mistake, he gave it to us and didn't even charge us for it. Definitely recommended. read more

I have come several times and Brampton has been my go to place for a couple of years. Originally thought it was a gem. The last few times, at least the last 4 times, I've been quite disappointed. They are expensive (I noticed that before) I find for example beef vindaloo has very few pieces of meat and is heavy on the potatoes. It tastes good but the portion size as well as the fact it is mostly potatoes is not worth the price they charge. I tried it with goat meat, it was super tough and not chewable. The last few times I am disappointed each time I've ordered. They sometimes don't give rice, saying it's complimentary, and only give rice when rice is available. How is a customer to determan how much food to order. Also, for the price they are charging, rice should provided. I've been disappointed lately with the food as well. When I indicated my meal doesn't taste right, something was wrong with it, the owner brushed me off, saying they've been serving it all day. I'm a quite used to the flavours, but the food tasted like ithad gone bad... From a customers perspective, consistency in the food and service, is so critical for restaurants. Well, its as good as it gets. I chanced upon this restaurant on one my business trips to Ottawa and was amazed by the quality of the food. Don't let the looks and the ambiance of the restaurant deceive you- you will be mesmerized by the food quality. The place is run by an Indian couple- Navneet and Ravinder, who are extremely hospitable and went at length to satisfy my cravings for authentic indian food. I had bhalla papri to start with and the special dhaba chicken with garlic nan as the main course. I topped it finally with a kulfi falooda. I would say I was amazed on all the things I ate. The price is extremely reasonable. I talked to the owners at the end of the meal and they seemed passionate about what they are doing. We have moved here from a large city and tried 7 (yes, seven) different Indian restaurants in Ottawa - and couldnt believe the poor quality and WAY overpriced food and small portions here. And what was worse was the locals didnt seem to know the difference anyways. Extortion at its best. Brampton Meats saw the opportunity and jumped on it - massive portions at extremely reasonable prices. Very clean take-out environment with outstanding food.. a large container of indian food is 9.99, half i think is around 6 bucks.
