I attended a party recently where this DJ was performing. I never even thought of doing a critique of DJs, at the rare festivities I've attended over the years, because most play all the recent pop hits that annoy me. This DJ mixed it up well, not just playing the noted pop (and intermittent rap), but old school (classic) rock (which is my preference); so I wasn't hating the whole time. A DJ needs to feel and know their crowd. When one is playing music that gets folks out on the dance floor (in this case being classic rock) they need to stick with it a little longer before completing switching gears. This DJ did just that. I get it, there are those that like that latest music too and you need to fulfill their needs. The change ups of music styles did not annoy me so much, as other DJs have done to me in the past. If you desire to have a DJ at your function you better have a detailed discussion with them about your expectations, before and during. This DJ appeared well versed in many genres, including a little country as I recall. If he travels to your neck of the woods give him an interview and determine if he would meet those expectations. We had a few specific requests, but in general, we gave Heath an overview of how we were thinking about the event and left it up to him to pick the music and set the mood. Within minutes of leaving the dock, the guests were enjoying the scenes of San Diego Bay while the music added to the ambience and created a wonderful experience.
