Not that it necessarily mattered, but part of my decision making process was that he was located in North County. All communication was timely and the quote was within my budget. On the day of the event our DJ Chris showed up early to set up and was ready to go on-time - all he needed was access to electricity, he provided everything else. We searched around and met with about 5 different DJs for our wedding. We ended up choosing Chris because he had the experience, the professionalism, and a nice price. Chris was great with setting aside time to meet with us a couple times to go over our song list. We had a little different music maybe from some couples in that we wanted a lot of Hawaiian music since we are from Hawaii. We sent him all of our Hawaiian music and he was able to play it during dinner and cocktail hour and it was perfect. We also had a little of a complicated wedding schedule, for example, instead of a first dance I performed a hula for my groom and then we surprised our guests with a hula together. Chris was perfect at executing this surprise for everyone. We also had our guests watch the fireworks outside and he was able to notify people to go watch the fireworks and come back for cake. He has a great announcing voice, he has previous experience in radio so we really enjoyed him as an MC to let people know what was going on. We had a fun little quiz game that he helped pull off that went great. As for the dance floor, well there were people out there dancing that I would never have expected to see dancing!! Some of the guests at our wedding culturally aren't really into dancing during weddings but they were up there having a good time. It was the first time my groom saw his mom dancing and having fun like that! Toward the end of our wedding we had a smaller group but he kept the party going and we all had a great time. He was very responsive to our emails and we were working with him from a distance and so this was greatly appreciated. Chris also provided uplighting at a very reasonable price which gave a beautiful ambiance to our room. He got the color perfectly and the lights were out of the way and I didn't notice a single cord. I just got married in July at Sycuan and could have not been more pleased with my experience, everything was just perfect. We had about 100 people at our wedding with varying age ranges, he was able to make sure all of the guests were able to participate in dancing, bouquet toss, gardner toss and other types of activities. Something for everyone. He set up about an hour before the ceremony started and played all our "special" songs just right and on time. I would use Chris again for any other event that would require a DJ, his voice and enthusiasm makes for a great evening. PROS flexible schedule willing to meet several times allowed me to provide my own play list (I choose every single song) professional and kind extremely affordable followed my instructions very well CONS (these were really more my fault) didn't play what people requested (he followed my song list a little too closely) our first dance was cut incorrectly (I suggest giving him the cut version yourself rather than explaining it and having him do it) the groom was supposed to have a lapel mic but ended up with a hand held mic which isn't as nice in pictures and kept cutting out during my vows Overall, I loved having Chris as our DJ. Chris came highly recommended to us for our wedding reception by the event coordinator of Flagship Cruises, Margie Wilson, and he lived up to his stellar reputation. With only one month notice of our wedding date, he was able to plan and deliver fabulous entertainment for our guests at our outdoor venue, i.e. patio area at Il Fornaio in Coronado. Chris coordinated details with our singer to have her music ready to play on his system, he arranged for Father-Daughter dance upon receipt of the song selection the morning of the event, he arrived on time and setup quickly, he played music that had our guests both commenting on the great music during the meal AND the dance portion; we danced everything from the hustle, electric slide, chicken dance, moon walk, disco to cumbias. We had so much fun! One of the brides had four blisters from dancing so much! The thing that most impressed us is how Chris managed to play our music choices when we only submitted our requests two days ahead of the event (he had requested two weeks notice but one of the bride's mothers had serious health situation and we had spent most of the week leading into the wedding at the hospital). My Husband (as of 2 days ago!) and I LOVE to dance and we LOVE music (as well as the 80 guests on the boat - our wedding was on the Flagship California Princess) so the music was one of our top priorities. Our family has contracted Chris for two weddings in two years. While the first (March 2013) he played the role of MC and interim music sets while the band was on break, for the second wedding July 5, 2014 he was front, center and totally responsible for keeping the party going. In both situations, Chris was just awesome. As the mother of two very different brides, I was so appreciative that Chris worked with each of my daughters individually to make their events distinctive from the other. Chris offered suggestions for the timelines that added to the seamless flow of the events and was considerate of the multiple personalities involved in planning a wedding. Upon initial contact, Chris was responsive and provided the contract immediately. Sadly, the father of the groom passed away midway through the planning of the second wedding and Chris was able to graciously adjust a time change for which we were very appreciative. Along with the interpersonal skills that make Chris so great to work with, he is a professional with attention to the important issues such as music selection and equipment quality. As far as music goes, Chris had something for everyone to get them on to the dance floor. The range of music selection was quite extensive giving lots of choices. Along with the variety of music, the auditory and visual quality of the equipment was top notch. The clarity of sound at the right decibels for the size of the venue is important, especially when there is a wide range of guests to accommodate as well as another event going on next door. I couldn't help but notice how much more fun our group was having with our guests dancing all evening until it was time to leave...and even then they didn't want to go. I would hire Chris again...and we will hire him for wedding number 3, but that will have to wait until 2016. I got married a couple weekends ago (9/22/12) in Bonita and could not have been more pleased with the job that Chris did. From the first meeting to the very last song I couldn't have asked for more. Chris helped us along the way. If we needed song ideas for any of the wedding activities (garter toss, bouquet toss etc) he was an email away and always quick to get back to us. We had quite a list of songs we did not want played and Chris was sure not to play any of them at the wedding when guest requested them, he simple let them know that I asked them not to be played and that I would need to come let him know should I change my mind about a song. It made me feel great that he respected our wishes enough to let the guest know that I didn't want it so he wasn't playing it. Going with Solid Gold DJ for our wedding ceremony and reception was an excellent decision. My wife and I were looking for a DJ that had experienced with all types of music and was good with the mic. Our first meeting with Chris went well, we were giving a detailed itinerary of what we would expect. We gave Chris a detailed list of what we wanted for our ceremony and it went smoothly. For the reception we also gave Chris a detailed list of music for introductions of the flower girl, ring bearer, bridesmaids, groomsmen, father/daughter dance, Mother/son dance, grand entrance and our first dance. Chris did an excellent mix for our first dance, we gave him four songs with completely different genres (Frank Sinatra, Bachata, Electronic Trival dance and Banda) and he delivered. We also requested some latin music throughout the evening and Chris did an excellent job at working in those latin songs at the precise moment. I hit a hiccup when my venue coordinator was expecting paperwork from the DJ but he hadn't turned it in. I tried my best to make it clear in my communications with him about what was needed.
