When I was required to get "cardiac clearance" before undergoing the procedure, I saw the logic in that, but was concerned that my cardiologist would not be able to see me on such short notice. No worries. Penn directed me around the corner to 829 Spruce Street, to the medical offices of Mandal Sanat, M.D., one of their recommended heart specialists. I set up the appointment for two days later. Walking into his suite of offices I was at first a bit guarded, because this space was no where near as attractive as the medical facilities at the department of urology at Penn Med. Everything was older, more worn, and the waiting area more somber. Yet, the people I dealt with were friendly, and knew what they were doing. I was able to undergo an EKG in an examination room, and be sitting on the exam table when Dr. Sandal entered. First impression was of an elderly gentleman in white short sleeve shirt. He asked who I was, and seemed pleased that I was his new patient. He took a look at the tape and let me know my EKG was abnormal. I already knew that, having been under the care of another cardiologist at Jefferson Heart Institute for about 20 years. So, I wasn't too concerned. Yet, he asked a lot of questions and upon learning who my heart doc was, he called him immediately. They conferred and determined that it was time for me to have another stress test to see what was what. I had that procedure at the end of last week. Smooth sailing. I knew I would have to wait for the results. Saturday night, Dr. Mandal called me at home to see how I was doing. He was still at the office. I admired his dedication. He was going to call Jefferson to get the results and get back to me. Turned out that everything was fine. The clock was still ticking as strong as ever. I was cleared to deal with the stones. Dr. Mandal always made me feel I was his top priority. His contacting me over the weekend gave me great confidence in his abilities and made his bedside manner unique. We had a few very interesting conversations unrelated to medicine. I enjoy his keen mind and well rounded life experience. Oh, by the way, Dr. Mandal is 80. We should all have his energy and wonderful spirit at any age.

I went to 5 different doctors and 2 hospitals and still couldn't resolve the issue. I researched online and Dr. Nyirjesy was the only thing I could find that looked like a answer. He was confident that he could fix my problem to the point I was skeptical. After some questions and an office exam he diagnosed me within the same appointment and started me on an effective treatment regimen. 2 different prescriptions that I had been given before along with a topical steroid which I had not used. I returned for a follow up appointment 6 weeks later and the issue was 90% fixed. I now have a different medication that I have to take once daily to manage the condition. I feel as if I have improved greatly even since then. The reason I took 1 star off is I called in July. They had no appointments available until the end of November! They did, however get me in after a cancellation in the end of September.

My son started with Dr Mike's brother Dr Jay at birth and continued until he aged out of going to a pediatrician (which was a surprisingly sad day for me!) and now he too is doing great with Dr Mike. He takes his time with his patients and their families to help them understand what is going on with our health. We can't have it both ways, for him to rush and not care or for him to take his time and treat all his patients with care and respect. Dr . Berenbaum has helped me above and beyond with many aspects of my health, can't even begin to start. He helped save my life making phone calls and going to bat for me when I was very ill and my illness had nothing to do with his expertise but he help me get the help I needed to survive it all.
