Mehhhh. Taking a LSAT prep course, the instructor is nice, the staff is friendly, the environment.. well, the classrooms are either really hot or freaking cold. The building is pretty old, it looks much better from the outside than inside. - Like someone else mentioned the rooms are small. Another thing I don't like is the availability of the instructor, he held a total of 1 office hour session... and its on a SUNDAY from 5-7pm. Pretty hard to reach. As far as teaching materials go, I am improving but I'm not sure how much of that is from the class and how much is from me working my ass off on those LRs. read more

I found that the center and teacher for my NCLEX review course were both mediocre. The people were somewhat nice although inefficient because they didn't provide me with the discount I was told I would get and I had to go through a bit of as hassle to be granted it. My teacher for Kaplan spent a lot of time raving about how she studied for the exam and how she was a novelty for both Kaplan and its patrons since she recently took the NCLEX and not many teachers for the kaplan course can say they've taken it in the past year or so.. Anyhow, the practice questions and tests they provide online through the qbank are the most important aspect of Kaplan although if you're already shelving out monies for the online qbank, you might as well pay the little extra for classes so you can ask someone rationale questions in person. On the bright side, you're next to bart and all kinds of food so if you need to munch on something during class it's all within walking distance. read more

Mmmm...its okay. Not the best test prep I got. The space is a little too small for my taste. Usually if you pay so much money for classes, you'd want them to provide very good study space as well. But after sitting in a basement like study room with no light and silence you get quite claustrophobic. Since they are situated in Berkeley, I'm not sure what they could do about space but when you're studying for a very important exam, you need that sweet studying spot. Kaplan doesn't provide it at all. Pros: You're very close to campus, BART and food so that is a great thing. The instructors are also pretty friendly and nice. read more

Kaplan is the worst. Their methods are terrible. There are so many great companies out there for the LSAT and Kraplan isn't one. Their in person courses made my scores go down. Their books are filled with their own in house garbage material. There are no gimmicks to the LSAT. Learning how to read and understand arguments is what it takes and it will do you well in law school. Kaplan will insist on there being easy ways and hack. You'll just be screwing yourself in the long run. They're big company garbage catering to people who don't know any better until after they have your money. read more

My LSAT prep course got canceled. Not enough students enrolled. What they do is they give you tons of options (LSAT Extreme, LSAT Advanced, LSAT Advantage) and tons of schedules (M,W,Sa / Su, M,W / T, Th, Sa) to choose from, which sounds great. The problem is that they don't expect the majority of these classes to reach the minimum student requirement. Then when they cancel your class they try to steer students into a class and time that's convenient for them. When I was notified my class was canceled (the rep left a voicemail on my phone, i didn't get to pick up) I tried calling back and it took me a whole day to speak with someone, after calling multiple times. All the lines were busy because they were experiencing a high volume of calls. Very frustrating. Signing up for the class a few weeks prior was a breeze! When I finally did get to speak with a rep I asked which classes are for sure going to run -- the answer was none. All other options and times had only 2 or 3 students enrolled (they need at least 8 -9 students to be even considered to run). It's all a facade. To put it bluntly, Kaplan at Berkeley is garbage. I am an international student learning English there. I started by studying Level 3 class because my listening was not good. When I took One to one lesson for improving my listening, the tutor made me listen to KQED radio and summary what I listened. He never considered my level. After that, without any plan adjusted to my level, he gave me any materials, such as the CD or DVD titled "the grapes of wrath", "Berkeley in the Sixties". What was worse, in the class, he spent time showing me how to do search for esl voca or esl grammar which was not related to improving my listening. He didn't focus on what I required. One day, he suggested going to Berkeley Art Museum and replacing that with 3 hours. We got there at aroud 4. He fled away at 4:40 or so. The museum closed at 5. I felt I was deceived. One to one tutor chiseled me out of my money without trying to improve students' ability. Almost Kaplan staffs make mistakes so frequently. That drives students crazy. A student almost couldn't go to her college because a staff didn't arrange her work. Whenever they make a mistake, they make an excuse that's a communication error. That drives students even more crazier and prevents from concenturating on studying. Teachers are substitued so frequently. A student in level 3 met a new teacher once a week. He is disappointed at Kaplan and would leave Kaplan next week. Three students in level 6 was studying in level 5 because they weren't satisfied with a new teacher who was substitued all of a sudden. Someone(Paul S) left his review the following, but he was a Kaplan manager then. "I love the Kaplan Aspect English Program. The best staff and teachers ever! Very Dissapointed. My son asked me to sign him up for ACT and SAT prep courses. Wanted to be a helpful supportive parent, I did. By the time the SAT coure rolled around, my son asked me is he had to go, because he thought they taught the same thing as in the ACT course. I told him he should go, because the tests are different and I already paid $619. I am recently divorced, and lately my son is staying with my ex. I encouraged him to attend, but he's a teenager. I can't force him, and if I did go and pick him up and drive him, he would resist and make up his mind that there was no way the course was going to help him. He's stubborn, or maybe just a typical teenager. I called Kaplan in the middle of the course, and explained all of this. They checked their records and said, yes, he had not been attending and had not completed ANY of the online assignments. I asked if I could get a PARTIAL refund and they said, sorry, you called us too late. I left it at that, but later was bothered by this so called again and explained and said please try to understand from the standpoint of a parent. It's hard to force a teenager to do anything. And if my son did not attend, and did not participate or complete ANY of the online work, could they bend their rules and give me at least a partial refund? They have no compassion or understanding. They don't seem to care about student, just about making money. So in my case, I paid them $619, my son did not attend or do any online work, and they would not budge. They would not even consider a partial refund. They kept all of my money for NOTHING in return. It makes me feel they are just out to make a buck, and it makes me feel like I got scammed. read more

before i enrolled at kaplan i was totally clueless on what i should study for my medical board exam. Kaplan guided me step by step on what and how i should approach each question on the usmle. the staff at berkeley kaplan are extra friendly plus i gained new friends from around the world., They have a separate room for doctors to listen to videos. so if your planning to take your Usmle kaplan is the best review center. Almost all the doctors i know who enrolled at kaplan got very high scores on their usmle Investing your money on your education and your future is the best thing you can do. read more

Bate and switch with no refund option, Kaplan = ZERO stars. They cancelled my daughters in person MCAT course 2 days before it started. Short of losing all my money I already paid, only option was to join a on-line class of which 1/3 of it would be missed due to MCAT test happening before that class ends. Person at Kaplan was extremely rude and quoted me company policy of no refund. He even said slowly so I couldn't mis-interpret the words N O - R E F U N D. And saying how technically the class portion is free as I'm only paying for tutor, that is all BS. You telling tutors are $500 an hour and throwing in a 36-hour class for Free, what a SCAM. Don't worry every chance I get I will spread the news on how bad Kaplan is and to stay away from it. read more

It's a good place to go if you want to prepare for the GRE. Yes the GRE is pretty much you either know it or you don't and you just need a refresher course. The bottom line to do well is to do your work outside of class and stay up to date with the readings. I came here with a month left before my GRE test date and I regret that. I also worked full time while I was taking the class so I had less time to do the work outside of class. I regret that as well. If you take this course, give yourself at least 2 months to prepare for the GRE test and if you work during this class it's going to be a lot. It's not impossible but it's difficult. Andre was really cool and very relatable and was able to teach us everything no problem it's just a lot of info I tried to pack into the class. So if you think you can jam pack everything from this class and do well in the GRE without a lot of outside work or enough study time, you won't do too well so beware and prepare if you are going to take a class here. Do your research and figure out what works for your unique learning style to succeed. The building was always getting worked on as well so that got in the way but overall a good experience to figure out tips and tricks to master the GRE. read more

I strongly urge anyone prepping for the new MCAT to steer clear of the Kaplan in person class. The class focuses on test taking strategy which you don't really need if you are familiar with the content and the test format. I knew that they didn't focus on content review but I assumed the class would provide some sort of study schedule for students to do content review outside of class in an organized way. This was not the case. To keep up with the course you have to spend all of your time studying content in a very disorganized way just to prepare for whatever random content happens to be referred to in the in class questions. The only way this could be helpful is if you had already completed all of your content review before taking the class but even then I would recommend just familiarizing yourself with the test through practice tests rather than wasting your money on the Kaplan class. Also my instructor was very discouraging and not as knowledgeable about the content as I would have liked. In terms of the online materials, I find the content review videos to be very good and the books are fine. While I haven't taken the real MCAT yet I am concerned that the Kaplan exams do not approximate the real test particularly well suggesting they help you practice testing for 7 hours but they are not representative of how well you will actually do on the AAMC test. I'd like to mention that I am not writing this review out of anger. I really struggled to choose a test prep company and would have liked if this review was posted when I was choosing a company in which to invest my time, money, and really my future career success. Be warned! Not too many students go for Kaplan. They regularly cancel classes just a day or two before the first class leaving your son/daughter high and dry. They did this for our son because they did not have enough students. This selfish, money-centered act of Kaplan completely messed up my son's SAT prep since it was too late to sign up for any other prep class. Instead of apologizing, they continued to push me for their online classes and thereby keep my money. It has been multiple e-mails and phone calls over ten days since they cancelled the class and so far they have not returned my money. Stay away from Kaplan. read more
