My son has been going to Alpha College Prep for almost 2 years utilizing chemistry and math tutoring with Robert, SAT test prep with Taylor and now college essay writing with Jennifer. Both of us have been quite happy with the tutors and staff at Alpha. Academically, my son has raised his gpa, test scores and equally important, learned the subject matter. The tutors understand how to work with teenagers and my son feels more confident in the subject areas after his tutoring sessions. Lastly, their rates are reasonable and hours are flexible to suit the needs of students. We've been to other tutoring centers in Berkeley and El Cerrito, but none of them has produced as great a result as Alpha. read more

During my senior year of high school, I went to Alpha College Prep to seek help with my college apps and help with the overall process that can be very overwhelming. I worked with Jennifer, who was absolutely wonderful, and she managed to help me write my college apps that got me into top universities like UC Berkeley, Northeastern, and UCLA. With this, I also got scholarships from other universities I applied to and had an overall amazing college application experience. She helped me facilitate and better explain my ideas on paper which helped a lot. Also, before the SATs got cancelled, I used the Alpha College Prep to mainly help with the math portion of the SAT and after the first session my score improved by 50 points. I would recommend Alpha College Prep for students who are looking for some guidance during the college admission process or looking for overall tutoring in any area. Our son got a perfect 36 on the ACT and very good scores on the SAT Subject Tests (760 and 800). The test prep he did with Alpha Prep absolutely helped. After having great success with our daughter, we returned to Robert for our son's ACT prep and he was again fabulous. After struggling on his first test, Robert worked on test taking strategies and the mental aspects of the exam, along with regular preparation. My older son did ACT prep at a small Berkeley organization with great reviews. The appointments were at odd hours and the teachers changed all of the time. His scores improved, but I couldn't help feeling better existed. And I was right. I tried Alpha Prep for my younger son and have found that it is THE BEST! They are super friendly, personal, flexible, caring, smart, funny, bright... the list of superlatives could go on and on but suffice it to say that I recommend them highly. I am a school teacher who graduated with honors; I am still an active member of Kappa Delta Pi, and I have a son getting ready for college. We have looked into and tried Alpha College prep, and their practices are horrendous! They show no love or care for their employees or students. During the recent storms we were unable to make our appointment and no consideration was given for us. We later found out that our tutor was having difficulty getting into work because of the storm, and he was nearly fired just for being late in a storm that even we could not make it out in. I'm sorry, but as a teacher, we give a lot more concern for the safety and well being of our staff and students. Please , take your business elsewhere. I suggest contacting Kappa Delta Pi, and asking for one of their local teachers to help you instead. In reply to the business owner, I'm sorry but do you have a teaching degree? Do you have any honors in education? What about you qualifies you to run a company of this sort? Have you ever worked in customer service? You seem to be lacking on both fronts. Taylor and Robert were the best! I could not recommend them enough. They helped my daughter improve about 80 points on the SAT during the 2.5 months we saw them. My daughter adored them both. We tried another company prior to Alpha, and we both prefer Alpha. read more

Alpha College Prep is the only tutoring service that I will use. My daughter found herself in a jam with half an Algebra 1 grade due to a new program offered at the high school she attended from 2018-2019. She was unable to attend summer school, and needed to complete an online Algebra 1 program before The 2019-2020 school year started. Robert is the tutor who helped our daughter, not only strengthen her algebraic base, but, literally supported her all the way through this intense online math class. She passed with a B+. Taylor, another tutor, is very patient, and helped me set up a schedule throughout the summer that set My daughter up for success. Robert genuinely cares about my daughter's academic success and even gave up some personal time to connect via Skype to make sure our teen stayed on schedule to insure she would finish the course in a timely manner. I feel blessed to have had someone pass on Robert's name to me when I was looking for help. I am continuing to use Alpha College Prep throughout both of my daughters high school careers and will definitely use them for ACT and SAT tutoring. I highly recommend their services, and words really can't describe how thankful and amazed I am for their top notch tutoring service. read more

This review is a long time coming! I discovered Alpha College Prep last fall as I was beginning my first semester back to school in over 10 years. Suffice to say, I was a tad nervous. I decided to pursue a Master's degree in the sciences, with very little confidence in my math ability, but first I had to tackle the pre-requisites. Chemistry was hard from the get-go, and kind of never got any easier throughout the semester (go figure). So I turned to Alpha for help...My experience receiving tutoring from Robert was incredibly helpful in passing the class. Not only did he teach me short cuts to learning the subject matter, but he made the entire subject feel less daunting and more achievable. Eric gave me a refresher course in Algebra, which was helpful, considering that I hadn't taken it since high school. Between the two of them, I had the tools and support needed to pass one of the most difficult college-level courses. First and foremost, Robert is the most flexible, kind hearted, genuine and intelligent person. When he worked with me all summer to ace a chemistry course I never thought I could pass, he was the one who had faith. Low and behold I received and A and got into nursing school. Essentially, they are willing to drive out to the house of any client and will work with them at any cost to help them reach success. My brother also has used he tutor Eric English for college Calculus and Robert Lee for college Advanced Chemistry, with their help, my hard-partying never studying brother has only gotten As as a result and will likely attend medical school upon graduation. If you don't use this tutoring service you and or your kid are missing out!!!!!!! We used Alpha College Prep for college counseling, ACT prep and private tutoring for my two daughters. Jennifer is fantastic. She is very knowledgeable, patient, excellent tutor and works well with teenagers. The college application process can be confusing and overwhelming. She assisted my daughter with the entire college process from helping her to figure out what colleges she might want to apply to, navigating the application process to making sure the applications where submitted on time. She was great at making the process less confusing and overwhelming. My other daughter used Robert for private tutoring. Robert is incredible. He is extremely patient, very positive and genuinely cares about the success of his students. He is very good at teaching a variety of learning strategies and explaining things in many different ways until the student understands. I was very pleased with the services my daughter's received.
