Although small, the Kauai Museum is densely packed with exhibits and history. It covers the archaeology, anthropology, culture, as well as the history of the island. When I later saw the TV Series 'Chief of War', I really appreciated the series much more than had I not visited the museum first especially the story of Kamehameha in the show who unified the Hawaiian Islands and figures prominently in the museum. You can also tour the museum using augmented reality on your smartphone or tablet, but unfortunately, it wasn't working at the time we visited.

This one has a large selection of books, magazines, other stuff. If you can't find what you want... ask the reference librarian to help you (ask nicely) or look up the books you want online.
