this isn't my go to nail salon but it really close to me so I stopped in to get my nails done and I got a dip. It took a lot longer than I expected but I was pleased with the results. Now one week later two nails have broken! Severely. I don't believe the tip from the previous manicure was removed causing the nail to be more brittle. Anyway this was my final straw. read more

Not good! I wanted shellac French nails and they did a powder. I did not want powder but I'm not sure the woman understood. A second woman watched and they just kept looking at my nails and laughing the whole time, which was rude. and it was soooo slow. Shellac nails should take 45 minutes at the most. Wow. I don't even know where to start. Walked in and was only person there - asked for pedi with extra warm water. Put my feet in and it was so ice cold I literally jerked and shouted out. So she drained it and then didn't fill it again until she was done manicuring my nails - feet froze the whole damn time. My sister and I decided to have our most recent "sister time" while getting pedicures together. We managed to get late afternoon appointments, and I spent the rest of the day looking forward to getting pampered. Upon our entrance, the receptionist greeted us with a warm smile and was very helpful in directing us to the polish section. They had a good selection of polish from a few different brands. I can never choose just one color, so I selected my top 3 and returned to the waiting area. The waiting area was small but pleasant, and I had fun entertaining myself by looking at all of the nail colors and acrylic polish shapes they had out on the table. A quick glance around the salon showed me the general layout of the place - pedicure chairs around the edges with the nail stations towards the middle and front. There seemed to be a good number of both. We didn't have long of a wait and were taken to our pedicure chairs. We sat down and swung our legs around and put our feet into the water, which was scalding hot. They quickly adjusted the temperature and added more cold water, and we were on our way. We selected the basic pedicure, and both added on the callus treatment and hot stone massage. The spa soak, shaping, and nail/cuticle trim were all pretty standard. My only complaint was that the woman who was doing my pedicure was sniffling and sneezing and didn't start out wearing a mask. She did finally go get one after I said something, and I was grateful that she did. The heel scrub and callus treatment were both great. As someone who always fights calluses on my heels, they did a good job with them. The callus treatment did appear to be the kind where your foot peels for a bit afterwards, but it was well worth it! The bottoms of my feet were as smooth as a baby's bottom! I also enjoyed the orange scrub, although I would like to know more about the "orange-scented" part and would like to see a more natural and organic product used for this. The warm lotion massage was okay. I watched the guy doing my sister's massage, and he was actually using proper massage techniques. The woman doing mine was literally just running her thumbs up and down my legs and feet over and over. There were no other massage strokes or pressure technology used. The hot stone massage was a bit disappointing as well. The stones were so hot that they were hurting my legs. I should have spoken up at that point, but when they cooled down, they were fine. The rest of my pedicure was uneventful. They did a good job applying the polish, and I was happy with the color I chose. The woman doing my pedicure wasn't very talkative throughout peducure, which I don't mind, but once the polish was on, that was the last I saw of her. The guy doing my sister's massage explained that she should stay in the chair for 10 minutes and then she was free to go. So we sat and chatted while we watched a storm roll in. At that point, we decided to chance leaving early as the rain had slowed down. The guy doing my sister's massage helped her out of her chair, but the woman who did mine was nowhere to be seen, so my sister helped me out and we paid and were on our way. All in all, it was a little bit of a disappointing experience for my first time there and for what I paid. We did finish our pedicures right before they closed, so perhaps we didn't have the best timing. I would still try them again to see how the experience differed, though. It was still fun, and I enjoyed the overall place and time spent with my sister is always a plus! read more

I treated my nieces with the hot rock and paraffin wax. Each pedicurist was great. The sugar rub, manicuring the toe nails, lotion massage, hot rock and paraffin wonderful. Kanwa has always been a favorite of mine but more recently I have loved it more and more because they do such a great job when I have taken my daughter to get her nails done. She is 4 years old and I'm always very pleasantly surprised at how long her manicure and pedicure last! Last time we were there her nails didn't chip for a whole week and were in great condition for almost 10 days. They are always willing to do designs even on itty bitty toes. I would recommend getting a reservation so you can make sure you aren't waiting, especially if you are taking a little one. I think they only have 2 kids chairs for pedicures. read more

Not a Friendly or Polite Place I have been going to Kanwa Nails and Spa for manicures and pedicures for maybe a year or a little more now. While my nails always look perfect, the customer service is extremely lacking. Even though I make appointments in advance, I always have to wait in the entrance area for at least ten minutes. I never see my tech out on the floor; she always comes out of the backroom. The two or three times that I've arrived exactly on time, rather than a few minutes early, I have received a phone call from the receptionist, as my hand is literally touching the door handle, asking me where I am and if I intend on keeping my appointment. My tech has never been very talkative. When I've attempted to engage her in conversation, my efforts seem to fall flat. I figured that she doesn't like to talk, so I dialed my efforts back to polite chit chat, please, and thank you. However, when I've observed her with certain other customers, she seems very talkative and animated. I thought, okay, it's me she doesn't like. I'll just continue to be polite and keep my conversation to a minimum, which is okay, but when she's does talk, it's mostly to the other techs next to her. They speak in Vietnamese, so I don't know what they're saying, but their whispering, facial expressions, and body language indicate that they are frequently upset or unhappy about something. It's difficult to relax when this happens. Recently, as I was scooting back my chair and getting ready to stand up, I nearly collided with a customer who had started to walk behind me. As we were apologizing to one another, I could see my tech and another tech watching us and rolling their eyes in a way that clearly conveyed that from their perspective, we were just a couple of stupid old ladies. And yet, I continued to go to Kanwa because I didn't want the inconvenience of having to find a new nail tech. My mistake. Recently, when I needed a fill and shellac, I knew my tech was out on vacation, so I thought I would just stop by the salon to see if I could get a walk-in appointment from someone who was available. I was fully prepared for the possibility that I might be turned away and have to make an appointment for a date and time in the future, but I thought I'd take a chance, just in case. When I entered the salon, there was apparently no receptionist on duty, so I stood at the front desk and waited for someone to come and assist me. And waited. And waited. And waited some more, while one by one, other techs would just glance my way and return their gaze to their work. After it became incredibly clear that no one was going to acknowledge me or call out and ask if I needed help, I left. I finally realized that none of this was worth tolerating. I've always been very polite and kind. I've always tipped 25% on my bills, and I've always put between $2 and $5 in the receptionist's tip jar on the way out, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. What I do know for certain is that as the economy continues its devastating downward trajectory, people will become increasingly unwilling and unable to afford the little luxuries in life, and places like nail salons will be among the first places to go out of business as people try to figure out how they can continue to pay for necessities like food and housing. Makes me wonder why so many nail salons and nail techs seem not to care if they hasten the process by being rude to customers and alienating them. read more

The facility is beautiful but the service I received was horrible... they were running a special on a pedicure for $75 instead of $85, which is way more then I normally pay but seemed to have a lot of perks including a 40 min massage and I had an hour and 15 min before a meeting and was assured yes it would take an hour for this pedicure so I signed up! The lady that did my nails was terrible she did a decent job painting my nails but she didn't trim around them like she should have and she spent more time walking around the salon looking for things then anything else. She painted nails first which I thought was odd but was ok except for the fact that we ran out of time and I had to leave before everything was done... and to be honest my 8 year old niece could have given a better massage. I warned her at 30 minutes when she only had my nails done that I needed to leave in 30 and she said no problem but clearly didn't have enough time when she wasted so much just walking around the salon. I am sure there are other ladies that work there that do a wonderful job but I paid 90$ and i still have callouses on my feet and did not get what I paid for. Extremely disappointing! read more

this used to be a fine place couple years back. there is a husband and wife managers alternate schedules managing the place and service is not consistent. I have been observing very carefully. they only ask if the client wants something to drink (for a fee or free) to only blond / white American clients. if you are brunette, brown, black- good luck. I don't understand this at all. The male manager comes and ask the blonde lady what she wants to drink - and not to me. I find it so interesting. and the manager lady is just mean. horrible customer service. Had the worst nail removal of my life. I have been getting my nails done here for a while, and eventually stopped going because the quality was not what it used to be. Today I went in to get a set removed, only going here out of convenience. My nail tech essentially destroyed all of my nails, specifically splitting my right ring finger nail in half. The tech also was aggressively trying to remove dip polish with a nail clipper, not using any acetone or buffing to lessen the strength of the dip. This caused the blade of the clipper to go under my nail and break skin. I literally had to get up and go to the bathroom because I was crying due to how hard the clipper got me. My nails now look awful, and I still had to pay full price for the removal. I wouldn't recommend Kanwa at all. read more

I waited 30 minutes for a pedi last week and had to leave without getting it because I was short on time. Went into the salon today to get my dip removed and a gel manicure and left very disappointed. They advertise a gel manicure to come with a soak, trimming, shaping of the nails, warm lotion massage, a hot towel wrap, and gel polish. Well, three of those things I did not receive. My nails were not soaked, I did not receive the massage, nor did I get the hot towel wrap. However, I was charged for it. I went up to pay and asked them what came with the gel manicure, just to be clear it was the same as what I pulled up on their website. I paid full price, but received half the service. I am only giving it one star because the lady offered to complete the job, which I declined. You get one chance with me to utterly fail and I take my dollar elsewhere. This was the worst pedicure I have gotten anywhere. The technician was in a huge rush and was rude. She cut the skin around my toenails in two places. She charged me the $15 extra for "shellach" which I saw was nothing more than OPI gel nail polish that I buy at Target. My toenails chipped within one week whereas my pedicures usually last 5-6 weeks. I also got swelling/infection around my big toe where she had cut into the skin. Do not go here....horrible experience. I highly recommend True Nails on Maple. They are kind, professional, careful, honest and always give me the perfect pedicure that lasts a long time. read more

I noticed that one of the guys there who does my nails doesn't use a base coat before the color, which might be the issue. But most likely will not be coming back because of that. I've gone here consistently and been worked on by several different technicians. I've noticed recently that the files, cuticle pushers and clippers are not sanitized. He just pulls them right of a drawer. I got clipped a few times and began bleeding and he just wiped the clippers off and put it back in the drawer. I will not be going back. read more

Kanwa Nails is my new go-to place! They are conveniently located very near my office and they are great about getting me in and out when they know I'm on my lunch break! I got lucky my very first visit and had Loc for my shellac manicure .. She's fantastic, sweet, and very precise in her work. I have requested her every time since and she is just lovely each and every time. We have done shellac manis, special designs I've requested, and pedis and she is always great. Kanwa has a nice, relaxing vibe, a good setup for comfortable service, and lots of options for any nail need. You can go cheap and basic (but still great quality!), or pamper yourself with scrubs, lotions, a paraffin dip, and hot stone massage. They take appointments and sometimes do get busy, but walk-ins are always accommodated as well. If you are in NW O, you really should try Kanwa and ask for Loc! read more

Love this place! I've been coming here for lunchtime pedicures, I work down the street, for almost 5 years now and won't go anywhere else. Always quick to get in and out and I don't know what magic they put on the polish but my toes never chip... never! My toenails grow out needing new polish and they still never chip, everywhere else I've gone chips eventually. I also am prone to ingrown nails and they gently dig them out perfectly. I have been going to Kanwa since it was called Beauty Nails and Spa, over a decade ago. I go back because of the service, the technicians, the integrity of the management, and the quality of work. I do acrylic nails, pedicures, and lashes regularly with them and have come to know so many of them as caring, experienced, and professional. Tina - well there is none better. Anywhere. She manages the salon as well as provides services, and I recommend her salon to all of my friends and family. I have had her come in early or stay late (or even offer to come in on her day off) for me if I am in a tough time crunch. You won't find that very often. I never walk away without being fully satisfied with the service, and if I have something that I don't like, they make it right. They cater to my needs, whether that is the thickness of the acrylic on my nails, to a little extra massage on my feet, to how I want my lashes applied. I find them to be fair and honest and treat me like I want to be treated when I walk through that door. I am a forever customer and I could not praise them enough. Respect. read more

I am utterly disappointed. I went to this salon with my friend and we had a terrible experience. We were initially sat together, but then separated, which is fine, but the staff then proceeded to play musical chairs with me and had me move chairs 5 times to make room for other customers. At this point one of the technicians had already clipped off all of my natural nails without my permission. I then sat for 20 minutes waiting for someone to do my nails. I was not acknowledged by the staff during this time. I contemplated leaving but like I said they had already clipped off all my natural nails. I had a wonderful tech doing my nails and I am more then happy with them, however my friend had a less then stellar outcome. She asked for a basic French tip, and the staff produced unsatisfactory results. The work was messy and not at all like her reference photo. I thought a French was a pretty simple thing to ask for? I had a pedicure given by Mike about 2 months ago and was very satisfied. It took about 50 minutes. I requested him for this pedicure. This time I arrived at 5:00, was in his chair by 5:05, and was finished by 5:30!! He did not work hard at my calluses. He told me to sit and relax for 10 minutes, and he never came back. Last time he helped me out of the chair (I am 75 years old) and put my flipflops carefully on me. This time he never returned!! I saw him across the way giving another pedicure for an apparent 5:30 appointment!! I left him a $4 tip instead of an $8 tip like the last time, as I figured he worked half as hard. I was disappointed that I had tipped at all. A lady came to ask if I had any questions' she was kind of surly and not pleasant. Had a bad experience here with dipped nails which is relatively new to most salons. My regular salon was booked and so I came here as a replacement. The color selection was minimal and the staff expertise was lacking. I was encouraged many times to change my selection from dipped to shellac. The nail technician was unaware how to remove the dipped nails and spent 45 minutes grinding over the polish. I told staff I've never seen it removed this way... I decided I would not return when the technician didn't use a base coat and grinded over my skin. Not surprisingly, my bill was ten dollars more than my home salon. Dipped nails is new but the staff should be educated properly on removal and proper application before it's offered. If you're looking to get dipped nails, this is not the place for you. read more
