Kanji Sushi is easily one of the better sushi spots in the Bryan/College Station area. The atmosphere is modern, calm, and a little more elevated than your typical neighborhood sushi restaurant. The presentation is beautiful, the ingredients taste fresh, and you can tell there's a lot of attention to detail in how everything is prepared. A few favorites from the menu are the Lake Atlas Roll, which has shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, spiced crab and shrimp, tobiko, and unagi sauce, and Chef Tai's Spicy Tuna Roll with fresh tuna, avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo, and tobiko. The Salmon Quartet is another great option if you like salmon, and the Aggieland Roll has a really nice mix of spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, escolar, and citrus flavors. The Lake Atlas Roll in particular is one I'd recommend if it's your first visit. It has enough going on to feel special without completely overpowering the fish. Service is polished and attentive, and the whole experience feels a little more intentional than just stopping somewhere for a few rolls. Great sushi, creative combinations, beautiful presentation, and a stylish atmosphere. Definitely somewhere I'd return to. read more

Best sushi experience in Bryan/college station! Highly recommend the two chef special rolls and the summer roll. Each was unique and delicious! We all loved our cocktails as well. The yuzu margarita was perfectly balanced. The service was 5 stars from the host and waitress, and we can't wait to go back! It is a small restaurant so i recommend getting a reservation read more

In no uncertain terms, kanji sushi knocked me off my feet. A hidden gem in college station of all places. Maybe I've never experienced what good looks like, but kanji set the gold standard. We ordered for the table so I don't even know what we had (save for the wagyu) but every dish was perfectly prepared and the meal was exquisite (read: EXQQUISITE). Service was good, balanced, engaging but not overbearing. And the ambiance of the place delivered a first class meal in a casual setting. Location wise, this new area across from the Stella hotel was simply put fabulous. 10 out of 10. read more

By far and away the best sushi in town! The restaurant is located near the Stella hotel so the area is perfect for a date night or a business meeting to impress. The staff is top notch! Shout out to Chef Logan, he's the best! read more

Service was excellent -- ask for Tim! He gave great recommendations and really enhanced the experience. The menu is a little limited, but the quality makes up for it. This was easily some of the best sushi I've had outside of Hawaii. It is on the pricier side, but when you're getting premium-quality sushi, you can expect to pay a little more. Definitely worth it for a special meal. read more

We really enjoyed our experience at Kanji. College Station isn't somewhere we expected to find a quality sushi establishment but was pleasantly surprised. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and finished off with a few nigiri's. I would recommend this if you want to make the best of the experience. Our server was nice and had some good recommendations. The ocean trout nigiri was our fave. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. read more

Good options for starters, hot/cold tastings, and entrees, but I would say their menu is pretty limited when it comes to sushi options. It may look like a lot on the menu, but it's a lot of tuna and shrimp in different veggie/sauce combinations. The roles were OK and the blue fin crudo was overpriced given what it was. I feel like the service did not match the level of restaurant Kanji is trying to be. One other thing is the plates here were way too big for the food being served on them, and we couldn't fit dishes on our table as they were coming out from the kitchen. In the words of my brother (CStat local), go to Sushi Masa instead. read more

We started with the cucumber mint salad -- so fresh and delicious! I wasn't really in the mood for sushi, so I ordered the sea bass, and omg, it was amazing! My daughter wanted sushi rolls and had no complaints. We sat outside on the patio, which was super peaceful. We didn't have a reservation, so the patio or sushi bar were the only options available, but it worked out perfectly. Service was friendly and attentive. Great spot all around! read more

Been here twice, first time was good, tonight was our second time trying and it was just super basic. Service was spotty, waited a while for drinks for a small restaurant. The seven spice tuna was a good appetizer, best thing we had. Edamame was okay. Entree was the Ocean Drive roll, the description of this one sounded fabulous but the result was super bland and boring. Even the presentation was bland, just thrown on the plate. Specifically, that plate was way overpriced, was too basic with no real flavor, it also came out wrong the first time. We loveee sushi so we were excited to order new things and it just didn't turn out great. read more

I'm a former B-CS resident and now occasional visitor. I'll confess, I didn't come here for the sushi, so I can't speak to that. I followed Chef Tai here from one of his previous restaurants, just to partake of his amazing miso-glazed sea bass. It remains an outstanding dish, full of surprising and satisfying umami flavors. The Kanji Sushi space, although tiny bar-like, feels very upscale and welcoming. As a solo female diner, I was impressed by the extremely attentive service. I also enjoyed the creative and memorable ice cream selections. Thank you, Chef Tai, for bringing big-city food quality, service, ambience to little B-CS. I'll be back. read more

I had the pleasure of dining here the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I was totally taken by the variety of unique selections offered on the menu. That was surpassed only by how delicious and beautifully presented everything was. Our service was stellar and the ambiance felt like something in a much bigger city than Bryan, Texas! I loved it so much I called and purchased a gift certificate for my daughter and son in law for Christmas. David at Kanji took care of that and he was so accommodating and helpful. Next time I'm visiting my daughter I will look forward to going back. Wish there was a Kanji Sushi where I live! read more

Kindest staff. Great at large groups. Knowledgeable humans: beautiful decor. Must go here!

This has become one of my favorite spots in Bryan. From the moment I walked in, everything just felt right. The vibe, the people, the energy. The place is clean, modern, and comfortable, and the staff makes you feel welcome from the start. They are friendly, professional, and really seem to care about giving you a great experience. The food is next level. Every roll and dish tastes incredibly fresh, and you can tell there is real pride and creativity in how everything is prepared. The sashimi melts in your mouth, the rolls are packed with flavor, and the presentation is always spot on. It is rare to find a place where every visit feels this consistent, but this one absolutely nails it. What I love most is that it never feels rushed. You can sit back, relax, and enjoy your meal while knowing you are getting some of the best sushi around. Whether it is a date night, a family dinner, or just a solo stop after a long day, it always hits the mark. Easily one of the best dining experiences in Bryan College Station. I am already looking forward to going back. read more

Kanji was a really good experience, really good food, really good ambiance, and the servers were really sweet and gave us their recommendation. The food was an experience that you want to live again multiple times, the sushi felt so fresh and all of the ingredients really complimented each other and the fish would just melt in your mouth. I saw a lot of people complaining about the price and I do partially agree, it was expensive but so worth it, the rolls were small but would still fill you up. you could simply just taste the quality of the fish and I would give it a 4.5/5. read more

Everything comes together here. From appetizers to cold plates, individual selections to entrees. Combined with drinks, sake, dessert, and great atmosphere and service. Truly enjoyed our second visit. read more

This is the fanciest sushi restaurant I have been to in Bryan-College Station. It's also probably the only place serving A5 Wagyu beef in town. Nice ambience, impeccable service, and amazing quality of food. The chefs highlight the simplicity and quality of the sushis and introduce interesting twists to elevate every sushi dish to another level. I would say that the prices for the sushi rolls are quite reasonable considering the quality of food you get (~$20 per roll). This is less about JUST having good food and more about having a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend!! read more

I've always been curious to try Kanji Sushi as I have stayed before at the nearby Stella Hotel. This visit the restaurant came up because it was featured on the Texas Bucket List. There was maybe one table when we arrived for lunch around 11:45 PM on a weekday. The staff was very nice and promptly gave us little cute towels that they poured warm water over to cleanse our hands prior to dining. Very chic and sleek decor, but I also liked that they had a TV above their bar area. We came in for lunch and shared the Blue Fin Crudo. This was divine in flavor. Wish honestly I had ordered my own portion for myself. It's not very large for sharing between 4 guests. For my main entree I went with the Ocean Drive roll. It was beautifully presented and was good, but I was hoping for a more spice since it had chili oil and more flavor based on the ingredients. For dessert we shared the Black Sesame Ice Cream and Matcha Cheesecake. The fav was the ice cream. They had a lovely unique flavor and I loved the crunch from the fried rice puffs. Overall I would return to give Kanji another chance, but perhaps the Texas Bucket List over hyped it for me and I was expecting much more flavor in the items I chose. I enjoy bold flavors. I do think this is a wonderful addition to have in Bryan though! read more

Sushi was creative and tasty. Really enjoyed the shrimp/calamari tempura appetizer. Matcha cheesecake was yummy! Service was lacking--not attentive at all. The restaurant is nice but could use a bit more ambiance (perhaps table lighting) and the bathrooms were dirty (and single toilet--had to wait quite a while for it to be available) read more

I lived in Japan for two years, and I can honestly say this is the best sushi I've ever had. The flavors are layered and complex, the fish is incredibly fresh, and every detail feels intentional. It reminds me of the authentic artistry I experienced overseas, but with its own unique touch. Kanji Sushi is a gem in Bryan. read more

While the food they offered is good, their menu is VERY limited. And, you'd better like tuna and shrimp. They are trying to be the expensive fancy sushi restaurant, and they have part of that down, for sure. But the service is extremely lacking. Our waitress dropped off part of our order and never returned. We were actually finished eating when the manager noticed my overpriced $20 shrimp tempura roll sitting on the counter, and brought it over. When I asked for some ponzu sauce, it took more than 20 minutes to get it. And when he came with the empty little bowl, to have it filled by the sushi chef, he was carrying it with his thumb smack in the middle of my dish. When I complained, about his thumb in my dish, he Then tried to pass it off as a new bowl of ponzu -- (which was logistically impossible) with the waitress carrying out the very same one, now on a plate, for me. We dropped $129 on very small portions of really tasty sushi, tainted by exceedingly poor service. Better food a nicer selection at Sapporo in the Woodlands. read more

Food is good and servers are attentive. A lot of the sushi has "sauces" with them that I think distracts from the freshness

Tempura is delicious and sushi always fresh and tasty! Servers are always knowledgeable and polite. Specialty cocktails are good

We are not big foodies but wanted to give a shoutout about another enjoyable dinner at Kanji Sushi! Great service, and the quality sushi makes other sushi places seem like just fast food. Enjoyed the roll with mango--very refreshing; and the Aggieland roll is always a treat. This time we also had the tea flavored ice cream with black sesame seeds--delicious. The so won't let me rate the ambience but it was also excellent. We'll be back again, and will bring more guests! Be sure to make a reservation--it may look empty if you arrive early but all the good tables are reserved in advance. read more

Excellent service. Incredibly fresh seafood. Creative sushi rolls with amazing flavors. Modern.

Kanji is a new Japanese Restaurant in Bryan near the Stella Hotel. The owner is Tai Lee who also has ownership interests in Solt, Urban Table, and (now-closed) Paolo's. Overall, the price versus value just isn't there. Nigiri sushi is ~ $5 per piece, a small chicken teriyaki is $20. Entrees are in the mid $30s. Restaurant is small and is requesting reservations even during their soft opening. My "Chef's Signature" nigiri were an off flavor and the chicken teriyaki was overcooked. The flavors for the soups, apps, and chicken teriyaki were good. Most likely won't return for this quality at that price. read more

I understand the role that Kanji is trying to fill in the BCS area, which is a high end sushi restaurant. For the ambiance, I give it a 5 even though the front door is hard to find because it blends into the wall. It's definitely classy. For the service, I give it a 3. The hand towels at the beginning of the meal were nice but our waiter was pretty lackadaisical - forgetting things like dipping sauces and refilling waters. For the food, I give it a 3.5. It definitely is more creative takes of sushi rolls but for the price, it's not incredible. I've had better sushi at other places in town for much cheaper. For a table that ordered two appetizers, 4 rolls, 2 pieces of unagi, and a bottle of sake, it was over $180 including tip. It was worth the try but don't know if I will come back. read more
