Every spring and fall if conditions are right, prescribed fires are used to improve more of wildlife's natural environment. The Little Pend Oreille River is as its name implies has lots of features to explore from smooth to calm to fast and rough. There are various trails my favorite brig Mill Butte At approximately a 5 mile loop with a summit trail in mid way through. I could say miso much more but all the above mentioned and it being all fee free makes it a "hidden gem".

There are a variety of lovely free campsites throughout the refuge with pit/vault toilets and fire rings. That's it other than nature. Bring your own water, pack out your trash and bring anything you'd like to sit or do your cooking on. (Fire rings do have a grate, but there are no picnic tables.) We loved it! Very peaceful car camping and it's free! Plus the birding was nice.

We have also come to go to our friend church were he Pastor's, which was the case this time. We had our little Jack Russel Terrier in tote so needed to give him some exercise and a potty stop. This park has lots of room for playing fetch, exploring, and running your dog. I don't remember if it offered bags to pick up after your dog but we had our own. This park really has a lot to offer. It has a skate park, bleachers, a baseball diamond, a covered area, picnic tables. Please refer to the pictures.
