Laid back, locally owned business. I won't be back. The inquisition started as soon as I made the mistake of sitting down. The motor mouth who runs this place was done with my very crappy haircut in less than 10 minutes, then charged $25! I went home and snipped off the chunks she missed. I don't normally give bad reviews. Especially for a small business. I wouldn't want to take money out of someone's pocket. When I walked into the barber shop, the pungent aroma of marijuana filled the business. Perhaps, I should have walked out, with the thought that if the stylist is stoned. Do I want her cutting my hair?? Which I probably would have done, if Felicia had been busy. (The business was empty on a Saturday afternoon.) after poorly wiping down a hair covered chair, she offered me a seat. I sat down, thinking, What's the worse that could happen. She messes up my hair and then I'd just have to fix it at home. She asked me how I wanted it. I said scalp short on the side and leave a couple inches on the top.We made small talk, But then, she talked and talked and talked. She had a captive audience and was going to tell me EVERYTHING!!! I don't mind a little back and forth conversation, but let your customer get a sentence in. So that was super annoying. After telling me almost exactly where her niece lives for some reason, she exclaims that she's done with the haircut. There didn't seem to be any regard for my comfort or whether I may have wanted my haircut shorter perhaps or any sort of discussion with my overall haircut experience. no customers ever came into the shop, so she couldn't have been rushing through my job, to get to the next customer. She also had me facing away from the mirror and took my apron off before I had a chance to review the haircut. Most stylists walk you through the haircut process as it is happening, because they want you to be happy with the results. Felicia was just going to cut my hair how she wanted, with little input from me. She then asked me for $14. I handed her a $20. She said 'See you next month!' And pocketed the $20 assuming that I was tipping her $6, because she made zero effort to offer me change. I would have given her a $6 tip regardless. But it's bad form for a business owner to assume such a generous tip. Overall the haircut was bad. I was super disappointed, and could have done a better job myself. I had to touch-up the sides and now mostly where a hat when I go out, because she made me look like Jim Carrey from Dumb and Dumber. Perhaps, Felicia was having an off day. read more

i was back home visiting and needed to get the hair cut before flight back home the next day. I generally don't let woman cut my hair because they wanted to style and use scissors I'm ex military and I'm just used to a high n tight not knowing where any other barber shop was I said how bad could she be? well she did grab the scissors just for a second and then got electric trimmers and got down to business after she was done i and I finally seen the mirror and she did better then any other woman had done she was very pleasant had a great little dog in there watching over the place. bottom line if I still lived here I won't ever return but if I did I would stop in for another hair cut $14 great price, and good job. read more

My fiancée went in to this barbershop today to get fixed up for our engagement photo shoot. It would have been his first time going to this barber shop but he was treated so rude that he had to walk out. Upon entering the lady asked him if he was lost.. when he said no she rudely snapped back "well you've never been here before". He told her that his barber was closed today and that's why he wanted to try out her shop. Once he sat down to wait he looked at his phone and the lady shouted at him "phones aren't allowed in here!!!" HE WAS READING A TEXT MESSAGE WHILE WAITING. It's not like he was having a loud invasive conversation with someone. After getting yelled at he got up and walked out. We try to support small business especially up in Auburn since we live there but this lady's behavior is not acceptable. I can't even believe she's still in business if that's how she treats all new potential clients. Supercuts in Auburn did a nice job on my fiancée's haircut. read more

This was the barbershop my boyfriend typically went to. One day he went to go get a haircut before an event we had and I went with him. We sat and talked with, who I believe was the owner, and she was super nice and chatty! My boyfriend got in the chair and got his haircut and got through with it and then asked how he liked it and if he wanted it shorter or something else. My boyfriend and I were thinking a little bit shorter and he asked if he could get it shorter and for some reason she got so angry. She told us to get out and we laughed it off because we thought she was joking at first. She then sort of ripped the cape off of my boyfriend and yelled at us to leave. We didn't even pay her or anything and she did not cut my boyfriend hair shorter either. We have never been back since. It was so bizarre because my boyfriend use to go there all the time and never had an issue until she literally kicked us out. After trying several area barbershops over the past few years, I have decided that Kandy's is the best and have been a regular now for several years First, I'm always extremely happy with my haircuts as is my teenage son. Second, Felicia, the owner goes out of your way to make you feel comfortable and is a lot of fun to chat with. If you are the type who just wants to get a haircut and not interact with your barber or other customers, then this might not be your type of place (which likely explains the negative review below). Felicia, whose name is apparently NOT Kandy (it's a long story, and you should ask her about it), is really good with hair. I just walked-in and only had to wait a minute or two before being served. She gave me a great haircut and some good conversation. She's super friendly and fun to talk with, and best of all...she doesn't price gouge! It was only $14 for a haircut, whereas most places these days charge $20+. So good! Note: It is cash only, so be prepared for that. read more

Horrible Experience, the woman (Felicia) that cuts hair here is crazy she began screaming when i told her the hair was too short, after i told her repeatedly dont go shorter. She kept screaming in a drug induced stupor, ranting about "your hair is going everywhere!". At this point we were a little conscerened for saftey and we hust wanted the haircut to end. Then this woman demanded cash , when no where in the store was there a sign thay said "CASH ONLY" . When i told her my son was mixed her whole demeanor changed, clearly a racist, not to mention she reeked of alchohol. Degrading and out of control, this is the best way to describe the owner, Felicia. I've accompanied my fiancé multiple times. Today as we waited, 3 Mexican gentlemen walked in, because she had roughly 4 people waiting the gentlemen said(in Spanish) this lady is really good but we don't have time to wait; with that, they walked out. They had not stepped completely out the door before Felicia began laughing at them, mocking their Spanish, saying they were "lost", and said she felt like she was in Oakland. I felt utterly discussed, completely uncomfortable. I whispered to my fiancé that I would wait in the car. I stood up and walked out. As soon as I did she yelled at my fiancé to get the hell out and go with me. After giving her business, monthly for years, he will never return. I am super fussy about my hair. 7 years ago Felicia started cutting my hair at The Buzz. At the time I had a very difficult level 1, razors edge, fine lined cut which she perfected better then going to Oak Park Barbers. Now she has evolved to taking the time to thin out my very thick hair and tolerate my obsessive, perfectionist demands. Felicia has gone past than the extra mile with my hair. After having the pick of many stylists which would come to me over the years, she is by far, hands down the A+ best. Felicia is patient, tolerant, fun loving, a good listener, has a positive out look on life, a joy to be around, loves her work and comforting to talk to. You are truly missing out if you are not getting your hair done by her. Felicia is very busy because of the quality of her work. I challenge you to earn her trust as a client. Worst experience ever! Walked in with my elderly parents and a woman greeted us very rudely by saying "What is this? What is this?" My mom told her Dad was there for a shave and haircut. The lady said "We don't do that, but you can make an appointment for a haircut". Since my Dad is frail, I walked him back out to the car and then went back into the shop and asked the lady if she is aware that it says in very large letters on her window "Walk In's Welcome"? She said "Not today they aren't". She told me to shut the door because I was letting the cool air out. I remained holding the door open and asked her if it is posted anywhere that walk-ins are available only on certain days. She said she has the right to refuse service to anyone and I need to leave. She actually put her hand on my chest and tried to push me out the door while trying to close the door on me. I left and took Dad to Auburn Barber Shop instead. There they took him right away, were extremely kind, and did an excellent shave and haircut. This lady is obviously quite disturbed--for your own safety keep away! read more

Used to come here and everything was great. Went in for haircut today and a few Mexican guys walked in and were talking in Spanish saying that Felicia was good but they didn't want to wait. After they walked out Felicia started mocking them and saying she felt lime she was in Oakland . this made my girlfriend uncomfortable so she decided to say nothing and go wait in the car . I sat there quietly for a minute when Felicia looked at me and told me to get out of her shop , I looked at her and kind of laughed because I thought she was kidding but no she said in a very rude voice "get out of here!!" . I could not fkn believe it. I come at least once a month and pay her at least 20 dollars plus for my haircut not to mention I referred my family and friends there. Guess what , I will never go back nor will my friends or family. Your crazy if you give this woman any of your business , I've never been treated like that by a business. Its absolutely disgraceful. I've had my hair cut here several time and I have to say its an awesome and unique experience. First off, this shop is run by a gal whose chosen path is one of a barber, not a salon stylist... She specializes in mens cuts and let me tell ya something... This gal is gifted with the sheers! But more than just a talented barber, Felicia is easy to talk to and always has a smile for her customers. She has a long list of regulars who come from near and far to have their hair cut here and for good reason... there is no one in the world like her. She's closed on Tuesdays n Sundays, but any other day you can expect little to no wait. I would suggest her to any of my friends, she's a pro and most definitely worth a visit :) read more

Been going to Kandy's (which is actually Andy's) for 8 months. Never had a better haircut. She cuts, styles, and trims whatever is needed, even eyebrows. She has a great comfortable atmosphere, magazines for guys, women, and even a kids section...As a bonus she is really great person who cares about what she's doing. read more
