Our closest chippy, and a frustrating one. Why? Because nine times out of ten, their chips are beautiful. Absolute perfection. Good-sized portions too.
But one time in ten, we get them home and they are terrible undercooked rubbish. Maddening! It's like Russian Roulette. You never know when you'll be disappointed. And the staff have so many little alarm/timers going off when they cook them, so I'm not sure how they get them wrong every ten times or so. Hurrying the queue out?
A very friendly lady seems in charge, and the two youths seem fully trained up now, after struggling and mixing a few things up when they first appeared.
The rest of the food? Mediocre in my opinion. The fish can be nice or sludgy. Too much of a lottery for me, so I won't have fish from there again after a run of disappointments. My wife likes their battered sausages.
I tried their Chinese food a few times several years ago and found it insipid and lacking. But it seems popular with others. I go elsewhere for my Chinese food....a really nice place.
Big frustrations. Waiting can seem chaotic. They take a few orders, then sort them out, leaving the rest of the queue. People sit everywhere, or pop out to the Co-op. They're often readying orders for those that have phoned them through too. You don't know what's going on sometimes and now and then, I see customers shrugging or rolling their eyes at each other.
Can be extremely busy at weekends, so I only go Monday to Thursday. Last straw was waiting over 25 minutes for two portions of sausage with chips once.
Sometimes it doesn't look too busy, and I get optimistic, but then end up waiting a long time because they're sorting out phoned-through orders.
Oh, and the pile of magazines should win the prize for oldest, least-changed pile of magazines ever!
I give this chippy three stars because the chips are beautiful most of the time and the lady is truly the friendliest.
But because the chips can be dreadfully undercooked now and then, and because of the frustrations queuing, I can't give it any more.
Seems popular and busy though. read more
