Located on Sugar Street (someone please help me edit the address), you will find this restaurant…read moreeasily. This restaurant goes by the name of Kampoeng or Warung Chandra. The restaurant itself is located at the basement. It was spacious and most customers are probably Indonesian to begin with. My brother and I chose our seats. The waiter came with the menu. Weirdly, the waiter or waitress came over to speak to me in Cantonese (probably looks like a local). I then surprised them by talking in Bahasa ;) Ordered Es Blewah - Javanese mixed sweet drink (mocktail) and Bebek Jingrak with coconut rice. The Es Blewah came five minutes later. You would need to stir the beverage before consuming it. Pretty refreshing drink and the ice was proportioned nicely. The Bebek (duck) Jingkrak with coconut rice came probably 20 minutes later. It will take time to provide the customers with aromatic rice and crispy duck. This dish reminded me of the Balinese dish. Definitely comparable to the local dishes in Java. The chilli which was well spread on the duck gave a tangy yet spicy aftertaste. Definitely a good choice on my part. Price wise it was reasonable - considering it is located in one of the most expensive areas (Causeway Bay). There is a free wifi you could use too while waiting - password: kampoeng (small letters) and use the 5G one for faster loads. Definitely one of the best meals I had during my 5 days stay in Hong Kong ;)

I'm not an expert on Indonesian food but I think I would prefer the Malay version of these dishes. None of them really stood out of me, but it was still a solid meal. The lighting is quite dim, which takes a little getting used to. Price-wise, not cheap, as you are in Sheung Wan. But you can be sure, you're paying for quality.

On a crap shoot, we choose Indonesian Restaurant 1968. Walking in around 6:45pm on a Saturday without a reservation, they were able to seat us, but the place had filled up within the hour (with a lot of groups too, for this place would be good for groups). We were sat quickly, order taken and before we knew it, food was in front of us. We felt the delivery of food was super fast (a good sign that this place would be a good lunch spot too). The space is vintage, low lit, comfortable, woods, open kitchen. Some high top tables, mostly regular tables, the rooms flowed pretty good and had a good vibe. Staff was welcoming, efficient, on it. We enjoyed pineapple fried rice, tofu, some curry and a fish. I do not eat meat and in addition to a vegetarian menu (you have to ask for it), there were plenty of options. Food was served fast, hot, good quality and tasty. Although nothing culinarily off the charts going on here, I found this place good and would go back. Maybe warrants 3.5 stars if I had to get specific, but for purposes of kind of a rustic cool factor going on here, they get 4 star.

Food: 2 stars Service: 4 stars Value: 3.5 stars Overall: 2.5 stars However, the food taste wise isn't all that great. I was expecting that it would be better or at least on par to some of the Chain restaurants like Min and Kok but it was quite a bit worse. Forget tasting anything close to what I have had in Indonesia.

Well, FY Noms already knows that this place is da bomb so I'm just hopping on the train. 5 badass stars for taste and value. Perhaps cleanliness and atmosphere don't deserve 5 but I was so damn impressed with the smiling service and mindblowingly delicious nasi goreng that I have to give a 5 here. All of the crispy fried shallots, delightfully plump and mmmoist shrimps, and flavourful fried rice in a pile with a (slightly overly) fried egg and some sliced cucumber, topped off with krupuk. The nasi soto ayam, a chicken soup with noodles, cabbage, wonton wrappers, hard boiled egg, and a spiced broth, served with rice and more krupuk, was also delicious. It didn't hit my spot as well as the nasi goreng, but it was still very tasty. Rivalling the nasi goreng in deliciousness and as a vehicle to deliver the soya and chili sauce to my mouth were the corn fritters (bakwan jagung goreng). Crispy, fluffy, and sweetly corny. My dining companion and I ate three dishes and shared a drink (not to mention the loads of chilis and chili pastes and sauces I consumed) and left stuffed. The total was about $70 each. Will be back. Maybe even today.

Relatively reasonably priced cocktails, plenty of vegetarian options and a chic space - the place was good. The drinks and the food, both impressive. The pomelo salad with lime leaf, banana blossom, cucumber and Vietnamese mint was nice and refreshing. The Vietnamese mint has something extra to it, that I quite like. The banana blossoms added that earthiness. Thai dry yellow curry of minced impossible meat with lemongrass was a hit. You could wrap that up in the lettuce cups they served, but I happily ate it without it (because coronavirus and I preferred not to use my hands). Saag burrata - the palak paneer or saag paneer, with burrata instead of paneer was very well executed. Pad thai tasted good, but could've been saucier, if I may. The red curry with pumpkin, tofu, long beans and okra hit the spot on taste and creaminess. The moong dal palak tadka - Indian lentils, while good weren't as great as I can prepare at home. (Yeah, modesty goes for a toss :p) The nasi goreng is hard to mess up and was decent. The only disappointment on the food was stir-fried okra. It didn't taste or look stir-fried and was very raw. If it were just the hubster and I, I would've probably have it re-done.  The drinks were refreshing and tasted well. I had one Hot Mama -gin, ginger, chili and homemade ginger beer with dried citrus fruit. This was followed by a Lemon Chilli Martini - vodka, limoncello, pink grapefruit and lemongrass syrup with chilli and again, dried citrus fruit.  The hubster had a Pineapple Kaffir Lime Margarita - tequila, triple sec, pineapple juice and kaffir lime leaves with a dried slice of pineapple.  After a quiet dinner, it was quite a task to get the children to wrap up and get home.  Pictures on the blog - thevegetarianvoyager
