If you want to be disrespected, ignored, and under informed, this is the place for you. This is not just an angry person review; it's the straight up truth of what happened. This is going to be a long review, so a few points here: - 5.50 extra if you decide to share your plate of food, even if you're both ordering something. - Massive amounts of rudeness. Our waiter would not pour water on you if you were on fire from the hibachi grill. - Intense smell of gas. Nasty bathrooms. - Policies that pop out of nowhere and slap extra money onto your tab. - We didn't even eat there because of the disrespect so I can't say much for the food, but my sister read somewhere that they had a C. Now for the foolishness: We were very excited to try this place. My sister had been before and had a lovely time, so naturally for her 20th birthday she decided to have a get together there. She called twice in advance, making a reservation to make sure that our party of fifteen would be able to eat there. They assured her that it would be fine. Once we got there, they informed us that we would have to wait for our entire party--people with lives, jobs, and extracurriculars, to arrive before we could be seated. They never spoke of this on the phone. We agreed and sat in the cold waiting room for an hour and a half while EVERYONE (because they insisted on everyone) came. When we asked exactly what the policy was, the waitress called someone over, snapped, "You explain it to THEM" and walked away. That was on us, apparently, but still strike one. We were (finally) seated. The waiter argued with a young woman about what an iced tea mixed with lemonade was. "It's a Tiger Woods. Do you understand? Do you understand?" (It's not. It's an Arnold Palmer.) The young lady kept her composure. Strike two. My mother was in the bathroom fixing herself up. The waiter, concerned about our numbers, kept asking if someone was coming. When she did come, he accused her of just coming into the restaurant. Strike three. My boyfriend's mother noted that my sister was ordering pretty much the same thing as her, along with a few other things. She pointed out that they could share her huge meal after she ordered it, and my sister agreed. The waiter proceeded to snap at them that it was $5.50 extra if they decided to share THEIR food. When her husband protested and pointed out that we didn't HAVE to eat there, he was aggressively told that he could leave. So he did. Strike four. The waiter and manager and other staff ducked in and out and realized that most of us were ordering sushi or other things at the hibachi table. In a party of fifteen, only one of us had ever been to a restaurant like this. Instead of explaining that we needed to order hibachi to sit there, he argued with another waitress ("Let me see something!!!") and went around the group demanding everyone's orders. Then proceeded to yell at us all about what we could and couldn't order in order to be in that room. Strike five. Some friends decided to put up enough money for hibachi so we could all sit there. My sister, the birthday girl, was politely explaining that it was her BIRTHDAY and she wanted a little more respect, when he abruptly turned to the next person in our group and snapped at them to get their order (the first time around, he had never actually written our orders down.) Strike six. Needless to say, after that we all left together. ALSO. During all of this, strangers were being ferried in and out of the room and sat down at our table, then rushed out. I would love to know what they were thinking. Strike seven. In the end, fifteen people who spent two hours waiting to be seated walked right out. The managers were begging us to stay, one of our group (who has plenty of restaurant experience) let them know where they could use some adjustments and let them know that yes, we were leaving and no, I do not want you LITERALLY holding on to me as we go. The food was subpar and the service was worse. The sushi chef was on the phone, and was sitting on a stool in the corner while we waited to get served. When the waiter took our order he had difficulty understanding what we wanted and ended up messing up the drink order. To compound the issue he never came back to check on us for us to tell him the drink was wrong. We let it go and finished our meals empty water glasses and all. When we finally flagged him down for our check and gave him a 10% tip for the sub par service, he stopped us as we stood up from the table and said it was not enough. He then proceeded to badger us in front of the other guests saying that the tip was not enough and that he would have to pay his hostess of of his own pocket. After begrudgingly giving into an extra 5 dollars, tip he continued to complain to the hosts so was pleading for him to let it go. If you are looking to be held up for a tip that the waiter feels he deserves after he's literally done nothing to meet even average service then this is the place for you. This was my first time at Kampai. A friend of mine and I like meeting at Japanese restaurants for lunch on the weekends so we picked this one since it was near her house in Conyers. One thing we did not expect was paying dinner prices at lunch on a Saturday so it was an expensive lunch. The food was very good and worth ever penny spent. I really have to have a good feeling about the place and the people that work near the sushi bar had better look like they take major care of their raw food items as well as have a good check on their hygiene. This place passes the test on those two aspects. This place is close to my house so when I have a major sushi craving this is usually where I go. The only thing that keeps Kampai from getting more stars is the hostesses. They automatically assume you are wanting to go sit in the hibachi area and they will also rudely discuss whether or not they are going to seat you if it's less than an hour and a half from closing time. Got food to go and other than the rice which was ok ... Salmon was disgusting and shrimp over cooked. The kids chicken teriyaki over cooked and drenched in teriyaki sauce to compensate. Went here for lunch with a friend not knowing what to expect and I must say for a store front restaurant on mall parkway it's pretty nice. The parking lot is a bit small but clean. The inside is a bit dim (for afternoon) but surprisingly very comfortable. The lunch specials are average priced for asian food and the Hibachi is decently priced I believe it started at $13.50. We didn't do the hibachi, but I was able to see some of the rooms which they have set up in a private setting with some type of cloth covering the doors. It looked like something I'd want to do with my hubby not my girlfriend lol. The glass behind the bar where all the alcohol bottles sit is very dirty for a restaurant! That I did notice twice as I stopped in here once before very briefly for my same friend to pick up a order she had put in. So both times the whole mirror was dirty. Not talking a small mirror, this mirror spans almost the whole back wall. They seriously need to clean it. I ordered misu soup which I never had before so I have nothing to compare it to but I didn't like it, it was a bit salty and had perfectly squared big chicken chunks in it..as if it was artificial or mechanically processed meat. I also had green tea the server gave me my own pot of tea which I liked. I ordered a very fried dish like a trio, fried crab meat, shrimp and squid. I knew it would be a fried dish, but it had way too much batter on it and was kind of greasy. I regretted ordering it as soon as I looked at it but hey you never know if something is good until you try it, right? I don't eat very heavy so I was unable to finish it, my friend ordered rice and they wasn't stingy at all! It was enough for three people and was pretty good! Overall I did like it here, the server was nice, food was prompt and I'd like to try the hibachi out. After reading the reviews and seeing the 2 star rating. I wasn't surprised because I visited this restaurant over 10 years ago and never went back because it was so awful from service to food. I reluctantly had to go back because of a friends birthday dinner. I was ready to be unhappy with everything. I must say I was totally wrong. Not sure if they have new management but EVERYTHING was completely better. I frequent many restaurants in Buckhead and travel so I know a good establishment when I go to one. We had a party of over 20, the sitting was slow at first and once seated it did take a sometime for someone to finally come take our drink and food order (reason for 4 stars), but everything after that was great. Food was good , drinks were great, staff was friendly and the bathroom was clean. People are quick to write about the negative more than then the positive. NOT HERE. it includes three types of onions and shreds of carrots. For $9 I called the next day to complain. Because when I picked up my food they were closing. The lady who claimed to be the manager ARGUED, and HUNG the phone in my face twice. All I wanted was my $9 back but instead I was screamed at and a accused of trying to get over on $9. What a horrible excuse for a sushi restaurant. Before leaving my husband and I BOTH got sick to our stomachs and spent 30 minutes in the restroom. We ordered the sushi and shashimi for two and it was just awful and overpriced. In fact, everything on the menu was overpriced - especially the nigiri. $4.50 for two pieces is outrageous. The salmon was SUPER slimy, and the tuna sashimi wasn't even cut at the bottom, so we had to tear it apart. Every piece of the rainbow roll came unrolled and fell apart as we ate it. It may be because the sushi chef was carrying a conversation with a customer the entire time we were there and he couldn't focus on his job, or the fact that the waiters and hostess were huddled together the entire time having their own conversation instead of focusing on their jobs. I am normally a Benihana fanatic but from now on I will be traveling to Lithonia receive some of this fantastic rice and Yum Yum sauce! My family and I came in on a Monday night which was MLK holiday and they were somewhat busy but they took us within 20 minutes of waiting. After waiting we were seated and given our soups and salads we heard someone complain about the bill and it being an extra charge but we did let that stop us from receiving service. The ambiance was cool and gave us a really good family vibe. Since I have family members who are regulars at the restaurant they decided which cook we would have. He was the shorter cookie name José and he was amazing. I got the chicken and shrimp special which comes with veggies and rice. The rice was so good I got Double portions! Nonetheless I ate at the restaurant I took my leftovers to go, I ate leftovers at work the next day, and I still have some to take home. They give you a lot of food here and because it's so delicious I definitely will be back! read more

I've eaten hear several times for their hibachi and normally, I enjoy the meal & the service. Today was my first to go order. I got the hibachi steak with extra veggies, no rice and the hibachi chicken with veggies and fried rice. Got home and opened my container just to see the nastiest mess I'd ever seen in a while. There were no extra veggies, it was the same amount in the chicken order. The steak was overcooked and slathered in too much cheap teriyaki sauce. I took one bite and steak and had to chew forever just to make it tender enough to swallow. My son's chicken was fine and he enjoyed his meal though he said his had low expectations anyway so he wasn't expecting much when we placed our order. I'm now just eating cucumbers with Italian dressing for lunch. Much healthier but not what I was craving. Though I've enjoyed their food before, I probably won't go back even to dine in. I'm just that disappointed and feel cheated out of my money. Lastly, the place is beginning to look grimy as is the clientele. Last time I dined in, upon leaving, the manger ran after a young couple exchanging expletives & threatening to call the cops on them. Not sure what the issue was but it was not a good vibe. I've been to this place a few times since I moved to the area. It's located in the Stonecrest Mall area, not the mall itself. The parking is adequate, so there shouldn't be a problem there. There's two main sections to the restaurant, one with the hibachi table and the other with regular tables and a bar. I've been to a number of places like this and they're pretty much the same deal. The major difference from my experience is demeanor of the hibachi chef, customer service, and decor of the place. Although nothing jumped out about this place, there isn't anything negative about it. If you live in the area, then you know there's not too many interesting places. Depending on the chef you can have a great time or sit around the hibachi grill staring at other customers with a starved look in your eyes. I always take dates there because its somewhat romantic. Food is always good but they are getting cheap with their sauces...a lot of mixed condiments like ketchup and mayonaisse...I give it four stars because as much as i dislike the ketchup mixture i love everything else...and if i dont like the waiter....i get up and move to another table. if I could give 0 stars, I would. We were going to Kampai Sushi in Stonecrest for over two years... we went to sit and eat as a family (3 people) and they told us there was an hour and a half wait. My husband went to the bathroom and came back out and said the bathroom was the most disgusting bathroom he'd ever see . That was a sign but we stayed. We asked if we can sit for Dine in instead of Hibachi. We were told yes and I even asked if a server would be there to help us. We were told yes. The manager comes over after we'd already been waiting 20+ mins and says Dine in is closed. We proceeded to explain that we were told different and he basically called me a liar. I showed him who told me to go ahead and sit for dine in, and he says "him? He's an idiot. He said no and was very rude and told us to have a nice day. I will NEVER go back. And this was once our go to Hibachi spot. We were first put off by the amount of handwritten notes that greet you on the door about people dining & dashing -you have to pay upfront to sit at the hibachi table and they charge you a percentage extra for takeout?! The waitress seated two gentlemen before us then proceeds to yells at us from across the room to come over and be seated. That right there should have told us to walk out! Once seated we noticed several people didn't have menus or drinks yet. They only had one waitress working the dining area. I love tempura, so order the tempura dinner. Disappointing. The only thing that seemed dress made tempura was the veggie thing. The shrimp, calendar and scallop seemed pre-battered, possibly frozen.
