Approaching the end of our trip in Spain, my family was (gasp) tired of traditional Spanish tapas. And as Korean-American tourists in a foreign country, we caved and found one of the few Korean restaurants in Barcelona (it was near our apartment and also rated one of the best Korean spots in the city), since we had a craving for some good Korean food! At 8pm on a Sunday, we were the first party in the restaurant (as it was right when they opened), though by the time we left an hour later, the place was packed with both locals and tourists (and Korean people from both categories)! While it looks small and unassuming from the outside, the interior is quite spacious, with two floors and a bar. The host was not Korean, but spoke English, Spanish, and Catalan, and greeted us with a smile before seating us. There are grills at each table, though we opted for a la carte dishes instead of a Korean barbecue-style meal. First to come out was the banchan - the first set is free, but they charge you for refills (unlike in the States). The banchan set came with kimchi, pickled cucumbers, roasted eggplant, tofu, and bean sprouts. The kimchi and pickled cucumbers weren't the best we've had, though both tasted fresh and well-seasoned. The roasted eggplant was surprisingly delicious, with a tender bite and a savory, slightly sweet sauce. The tofu was lightly fried with a nice crisp and tender inside, and the bean sprouts were crunchy and seasoned well with sesame oil and soy sauce. Not bad at all for Barcelona banchan! The menu is extensive, though part of that is due to the fact that it is in Catalan, English, Spanish, phonetic Korean, and Chinese. I ordered the Jeyuk Bokkeum (Sauteed Pork with Vegetables in a Spicy Sauce, €13,80) - the pork was delightfully tender without being too fatty, stir-fried with onions and zucchini, and the sauce it was in was addictively spicy with a hint of a sweet aftertaste...a pleasant surprise, especially for the generous portion size! The fresh lettuce on the side was perfect for making ssam (traditional Korean lettuce wraps). My dad ordered the Galbi Tang Picante (Spicy Galbitang, or Spicy Beef Soup, €16,80) - while it wasn't the best galbi tang he's had, it was served steaming hot, with a nice kick and a fairly generous portion of beef. The broth tasted familiar, if a bit spicier than the galbi tang we've had at other Korean restaurants. My brother ordered the Dakgalbi (Spicy Marinated Chicken, €35), which is supposed to be meant for two people, but is really more like 1.5 portions (1 for my hungry teenage brother). It comes with spicy marinated pieces of dark-meat chicken, which are nice and tender (no gristly pieces), perfectly-cooked vegetables (a medley of carrots, potatoes, and zucchini), and Korean rice cakes (tteokbokki), which add a nice soft textural contrast to the dish! While this was hearty and tasty, the sauce didn't taste too authentic, due to a strong note of curry powder, making the dish taste more South Asian than Korean. Overall, this was good, but definitely not two portions, and not worth €35. Lastly, my mom ordered the Mul Nangmyeon (Korean Cold Noodles, €12,50). They had forgotten to bring this out, but quickly prepared it when we reminded them later. This dish comes with a good amount of buckwheat noodles in a cold broth, with pear, cucumber, beef, and a hard-boiled egg. The cold, vinegar-based broth was refreshing on a hot day, and the crunchy pear and cucumber added a good contrast to the soft noodles and tender beef. The egg has a nice richness to it as well, and you can add spicy mustard on the side for an extra kick! The woman who I presumed to be the owner of the restaurant came out to greet us - she is Korean, and speaks fluent Korean, Catalan, and Spanish. She is very kind and down-to-earth, and asked us if we enjoyed our meal. Overall, this was a solid place to get our Korean-food fix in Barcelona - while it's pricier than other Korean food we've had, it's fairly solid, if not the most authentic, and tastes good. If you're getting tired of traditional Spanish tapas, this is definitely a decent option! read more

I have visited Barcelona many times in the past 20 years, but this is my first time trying a Korean restaurant. I was somewhat afraid to try it, thinking it wouldn't be good, especially coming from Madrid last week, where I had the worst K-food experience at a non-Korean (owned by Chinese?) K restaurant.  Surprisingly, the food was authentic and delicious. Soondoofu, dolsot bibimbob, and Ahshimjumuluk meat all tasted great. Small mom and pop Korean restaurant walking distance from the sagrada familia. We popped in for some Korean food since our toddler was wanting a taste of home after a week in Spain. Fortunately kamasot had some options for us to try. I would recommend the menu del dia which offers a fixed price meal where you get an appetizer, entree and drink for a reasonable price. We got the bibimbap kimchi pancake and a beer as one set and then got a soybean paste stew for our other entree. Both were pretty good in my opinion ( as a fellow Korean person) and everyone left happy and full. Would recommend to people looking for some Korean food relatively near some major tourist destinations in Barca. read more

I accidentally discovered this place when I was walking to another restaurant a few weeks ago. At first I was surprised that there was even a Korean restaurant in Barcelona. I thought to myself, "no way could this restaurant be good, there aren't many Korean people in Barcelona." However, I kept thinking about this restaurant. My curiosity finally got the best of me and I had to try this place. Boy am I glad I decided to try it. This place really is one of the best restaurants I've been to in Barcelona. As someone who has eaten great Korean food in Los Angeles and New York, I must say this is definitely comparable. I ordered the Bibimbap and it was an explosion of flavor in every spoonful. I asked for hot sauce and that hit the spot perfectly. My friend ordered the chicken barbecue, and while I didn't try any, she couldn't go two minutes without saying an expletive laced compliment on how good it was... and she's somewhat of a picky eater. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is craving Korean food. It's not just a "good enough for Barcelona" ethnic restaurant, it's a "good for any where" restaurant. I'll definitely be coming back here many times in the future. read more

Quiet possibly the worst Korean restaurant ever, we order two meat dishes and a soup and paid €53 for the cheapest cut of pork (6 thin cut belly slices) cost about €1-€2, menu price is €15. I also ordered the chicken, but again I got the cheapest cut of a chicken, the thigh, and only 3 of them cost €1-€2, menu price €12-€13. Left still hungry and ripped off. The whole meal couldn't have cost more than €10, and it certainly felt like €10 worth! read more

I had layover at Barcelona , after 12 days of cruise I wanted to get some Korean food. I found this place in yelp, this place is located three blocks from Sagrada Familia and close to my hotel. My wife and I wanted to check this place out went for dinner. First thing you should know their opening hours . Open 12-4 and reopen 8-12. Check their website for opening hours and menu. They charge extra for water, extra rice and banchan. We walked in and saw young Korean couple. They didn't wanted to talk much, I asked "is there lot of Korean live here in Barcelona " she said a lot of Korean lives there. Reason why I ask this is because I wanted to expect level of quality of Korean food. My wife ordered tofu soup and I ordered kimchi soup, that was two out of four soups on the menu. They served soup in Indian pottery. Disappointing. I looked into kitchen. Indians or native was working in the kitchen. Only Korean staff was a young couple who was taking order. Man who taking order was on black t shirt and short pants. Looked like just got out of the bed. Food was served by Indian or native man in indian pottery. Felt like in Indian restaurant . Kimchi soup was spicy , tofu soup taste instant food. Well I am glad I live near New York City. Cannot compare to food, service, and professional culinary service we get from New York area. Found this place while passing by and it was such a jackpot! The restaurant has a beautiful traditional interior and offers some of the best authentic Korean dishes in town (I would even argue maybe in the entire Europe). The service was quite fast considering it was a bit short-staffed. Would definitely love to go back there before I leave the city!:) read more
