While in Barcelona, I had a craving for some Chinese comfort food. Thanks to Yelp, I realized that Chen Ji was only a few blocks from my apartment, so I decided to give it a try. The food is good, consistent and inexpensive. It is a hole in the wall, no fancy decor, no table cloths, but good, quick service. The food could be a bit salty because that is the Spanish way of eating, but you can always ask them to cook your order with low salt. It's great. I am visiting from the USA and wanted to try some Chinese food. When we first got there it was PACKED so we thought it was going to be great. But it was NOT!! We walked in and no one seated us they made us find our own table but they seated the group that came after us. We found a table and things were looking up until the worker came and told us to move and took our cups and walked away to a new table, NOT okay. She did not check to see if it was okay or even asked us. We order hot and sour soup and it was alright. They then gave us one very small chili sauce. We asked for 2 more because we had 4 people that really love spicy stuff and the worker asked us where we were from that we need 3 spicy sauces with an horrible attitude! Not very nice. Now don't get me started on the food it was HORRIBLE. The food tasted so bad worst Chinese food I have had this whole trip and I have been here for a month. The fired rice was definitely not fried and had no flavor.We order soup dumplings and did NOT get our soup dumplings. Also our sauce dish had a crack and was leaking all over the table. Came here to try my first attempt of Chinese food in Barcelona, heard good reviews, there are quite a bit more Chinese restaurants in the area feels like Barcelona version of a China town . The restaurant attracts a mix of both locals and tourists however this place is a bit off the main drag therefore people are here only because they consider this place as good. The place is moderately clean , the servers are nice and friendly, menu is available in English. Ordered Chicken fried Rice and Beef with Green Pepper also asked the server the make my food spicy which though made him a bit confused but in the end he understood what I was asking. The Fried rice was merely ok in my opinion there was no color on the rice it self and lacked both soy and toasted rice flavor. All the dishes were amazing and what really impressed me was the price! Super cheep eats here. Thank god for the existence of this restaurant. I was travelling in Europe with my brother and severly underestimated the amount of money and finding this restaurant was a blessing. We were able to have the largest meal ever, while paying the least of all our trip. We got the buns, which were like 10 for 3 euros, then plate of fried rice with 2 dishes (one of sweet and sour pork, one of "peking" flavored pork). All that costed us less than 20 euros. The food itself was good and tasty (for the value). Def not the best chinese food I had in my life, but definitely one of the best value! This place is a hole-in-the-wall Chinese joint in Barcelona's small Chinatown. It was crowded with teenage locals around 10pm, presumably because of the low prices. I ordered the xiao long bao. This is supposed to be a soup dumpling. What came out was a sweet bread dumpling filled with bbq pork. These were filling, big, and cheap. They were primarily bread greased up on the outside and pan-fried to a nice crisp on the bottom. The pork inside was meager and mingled with a gelatinous bbq-like sauce. The Peking duck was tender and succulent (with home made pancakes!), the sautéed king prawns were so flavorful and perfectly cooked. First of all: why 5 stars? 1. what they do good they do it pretty good 2. it's one of my favorite dishes of all so I am leaned to like them 3. They do it all for an unbeatable fare. But keep in mind that their menu is very extensive and I can't account for the whole of it. Given reviews from other Yelpers I would encourage you to stick to suggestions. Hands down one of the best Chinese restaurants in the city. No fuzz, the place looks like a food hall. But if you are there for the food and not for the looks you will have a feast. Even better? Prices are amazing, for sure the one with the best quality-price ratio in Barcelona. Make sure you order the Pan-Fried Dumplings (#39 on the Menu - GuoTie), they are among the best I have had. Tell them to bring you the Black Rice Vinegar and Chili Paste (if you enjoy spicy) to mix and use as a sauce with those rather than the soy sauce. Believe me, you will thank me. Important Note: Try the above mentioned over their #40 - Xiao Long Bao, because they are not real Xiao Long Bao (Shanghai Juicy Dumplings filled with broth) but rather more like a Baozi (Bread-like buns filled with pork). If you enjoy noodle soup, do not miss their hearty Noodle Soup with minced beef (#31 I think), I prefer this one over the one with "ternera" or meat. I noticed most of the customers were non-Asian and eating the typical fried rice and noodles. Those dishes looked pretty good and seem like everyone had an order of fried dumplings which I also ordered. I also got 2 of my favorite dishes, homestyle tofu and smoke pork on tea leaves. The fried dumpling were quite good. I would come here just for those. The other two dishes were decent. If I was in New York, I wouldn't come back here for those dishes. Oh my gosh! I have found my Chinese restaurant! It is located in the Barcelona Chinese neighborhood (I don't know if we can call it chinatown yet). It;s a huge restaurant, with two floors and it is always packed, so plan ahead. First time I went it was a wednesday and Barça was playing, and I still had to wait for a table. You have no decoration whatsoever, it is simple as it gets. The menu is amazing, they have at least a 100 plates to choose. The prices are really good, you can eat for less than 10 euros The waiters sometimes can barely speaks spanish, so you better show them the menu with the dish number. And the food is good, I recommend as many others had the Guotie. I've been 2 times so far, but I will be back to taste more of their delicacies. read more

Do you want a true Chinese experience while in Barcelona? Would you like to eat good cheap Chinese food on sticky tables and use kleenex as napkins? Then you've come to the right place. I am a Chinese American on vacation in Barcelona and decided to sample some of the local Chinese food. I was not expecting it to be anywhere near as authentic as back home in California, but it was and then some. The "service" is non existent and bordering on rude, the place feels and smells vaguely dirty, the furniture is worn down, there are large bottles of soy sauce on each table and the aforementioned kleenex. The food was pretty good, real Chinese food, which again I was not expecting in Barcelona. It was also dirt cheap. Be warned that this place appears to be extremely popular with 20 something Spaniards as it was super busy with crowds of young ppl waiting to get in. It was also extremely loud. Delicious food and very cheap prices. Me and my date had the chinese noodle soup and the fried dumplings for starters, really big portions (they only cost around 3 euros each). We chose the beef and onions (6 euros) and gambas a la plancha (7 euros) as main courses, and they were even better than our starters. We paid 27 euros in total, including drinks and rice, which you order separately. The restaurant isn't cosy, it's loud and big. Next time I go here it will defiently be with a group of friends.
