Got my new car in 2015 and probably within the past month or so, I've made quite a few visits to the service department because my car had trouble starting. I've worked with both Bryce and Travis who have been just completely over the top. They don't do their job just to do it, they actually sincerely care about not just your car, but you as well! At first they couldn't figure out what's wrong with my car, so Travis personally told me to call once my car acted up so they could immediately take care of it. It just so happened to be at 4:30 pm after I'm done with work and 30 minutes before they close. Luckily I got in touch with Travis and they actually made it down to my job to figure out what's wrong, which they did! I left my car with them over night and got to pick it up, fixed the next day! Honestly don't know what I would've done if it wasn't for Travis! I can't explain how awesome kamaaina motors have been from day one! I'd give them way more than 5 stars if I could!! Worst customer service I have ever experienced. They have had my car almost 2 weeks and never ONCE has the technician Corey called me with an update. After 5 days I started calling them daily. Each day I was told the same thing, " the technician is looking at your vehicle right now, we will call you back by the end of the day with an update" . Never got a call back ever on any of days and was told that same BS line 5 days in a row!!! I was actually considering just purchasing a new vehicle from them rather than repairing mine....not now. I had an appointment on Tuesday February 4 th @ 11:00 am.I had my 2010 Jeep Wrangler Sport towed to their shop to make the appointment time.The Service department did not communicate well,& because of me not being present,put me on the back burner because they claimed to be busy,& all the virtual paperwork,that needed signing.My Jeep was towed there because it was locked out from shifting & or starting,I couldn't even get the keys out of the ignition.So in order for the service department to lock the vehicle,the technician allegedly had to mechanically shift the transmission to get the keys out of the ignition,& lock the vehicle.The next day I was told they had to complete a $430 diagnostic to figure out what was wrong,even though they had to mechanically shift it,so they basically knew the problem but proceeded with the diagnostic.Which revealed no error codes.Which was erroneous because of the obvious ABS idiot lights on the dash.Which was the original reason for the appointment. So Eric tells me sometimes the diagnostic doesn't correctly read the codes.In my mind at this point I'm thinking that's when you roll over the overinflated unnecessary diagnostic into the overinflated service & part price. Like how it use to be in most service departments. So now because of their No error code diagnostic,as soon as I got out of the shop I discovered the left brake pad worn to the metal.No mention from the Kamaaina service department about this obvious issue,& all after a $1500.00 bill.So they said they found the problem via a visual inspection,in my opinion when they mechanically shifted it the fist day.So they erroneously charged me for a unnecessary diagnostic.After that they ordered a part via a $50 expedited fee for delivery in 2-3 days.The part a shift cable took 6 days.Come to find out the shift cable had worn plastic bushings.I informed them they can just change the bushings.Eric the service guy gave me some story about the bushings not fitting,so they ordered the $491 shift cable.All this & after the fact the cable is fine,the $5.00 plastic bushings,for both ends of the cable were worn. I called the service manager & asked for assistance,& all I got was a old fashioned land line slammed hang up,with no Aloha,& no Kamaaina.I should've checked their reviews online,because I made a mistake taking my Jeep to them for service,my bad never again. You may not have a choice as to whether or not to take your vehicle here, not many mechanics work on Chryslers. But boy was I disappointed to learn Kamaaina Motors charged me 2x what I can buy my senthetic motor oil for elsewhere, 2x! After their quote, a $135 oil change turned into $210! And then an additional brake fluid flush for $280, came with an unquoted cost for materials, like gloves, for an add'l $40. Ask for all incidentals up front to avoid surprises, and make sure your customer service representative does the homework to give you accurate upfront quotes. read more

Very little Aloha at Kamaaina Motors. The 'check ABS' light cam on in my RAM 1500. I made an appointment to have it looked at. I was presented with a diagnostic bill of $385.00. It turned out to be a poor connection on the sensor. I was then presented with a bill for $430. It seemed excessive so I decided to talk to the manager, a lady with 'ALOHA tattooed on her forearm. It turned out to be the only Aloha evident at Kamaaina Motors. I noticed a $36.00 'Shop Supply' charge on my bill. When I inquired about what supplies had been expended in looking under my truck, she said that they had to pay for the paper that my bill was printed on ! I explained that I had purchased 2 new vehicles and and 15 years of oil changes, on the receipts of which I was assured of how much they appreciated my loyalty. When the manager presented the estimate for fixing the car, I found how much they appreciated my business. "You are looking at $540" she said. $970 for a loose sensor connection ! Unless it is an under warranty repair, avoid this place. read more

This is the worst experience I have ever had that involved paying a business or individual for a service. Literally any mechanic, dealership, store, tienda, restaurant, hotel etc... Kamaaina motors is the absolute worst. They charged me over 2000 dollars to unsuccesfully fix my break lights and when I brought the Jeep back around three days later because the lights still didn't work I was told they worked when I drove off the lot with it so I would have to pay to have it inspected again and then pay for more work. Instead I took it to CARSS, who fixed it for about 230 dollars, roughly the price of another inspection, and did a great job. So go to CARRS but stay as far away as you can from this dumpster fire dealership. Run. Fast. Drive if you must but not near ConTheAina Motors. read more

Walked in with 700 (719) plus credit and perfect payment history walked out with 640 and a dozen hard inquiries Instead of running one app and credit report and submitting that to banks they had a dozen banks pull hard inquiries on my credit , aka shot gunning credit! Never go to them! I was car salesman we would pull one report and send that to banks, the best way is to get your bank to prequalify you. I would steer clear of this place. Bought a 2013 Dodge Dart from them about a year and a half ago. Drove it off the lot and on the way home (30 miles) I noticed a wobble in my car that couldn't be felt on the short test drive previously. I texted my sales rep and told him ASAP. He told me to bring that car back. I immediately was concerned that I made a huge mistake in buying this car and considered choosing something different. They assured me that they would make sure its fixed at it still had 10,000+ miles of warranty on it. Took it in many time to no avail. They always gave me my car back saying that had no idea what was wrong. Finally, they changed my front tire which seemed to help. But then my clutch started acting up. Took it in another 5 or six times before I finally had to video record the issue myself to prove what was wrong. They diagnosed something with the master cylinder and replace it. Everything worked ok for about 500 miles until it started to happen again. This time when I called I was peaking at 35,800 miles. 200 shy of my warranty expiring. They looked at my car and sent me away without any remedy. I ended up spending well over 4 months going back in forth with Joseph and his supervisor about the issues with my car. Because I had CLEAR and THOROUGH documentation of having issues since the day after I drove it home. I felt I was due a solid resolution no matter if my warranty was valid. It became clear that they had no interest in helping me resolve the issues with my car and refused to service me without full payment fro that point forward. Claiming my warranty had expired and that any further repairs would be out of my pocket. Long story short I ended spending $2000 dollars fixing the front end ball joints and shocks that were later diagnosed to be the wobble issue (not my tires) and salve cylinder which was inside my transmission and had to be taken apart by TransTech to fix. Who was appalled by my story since a little research on their end showed a Service Bulletin posted for my car directly related to my clutch issue that should have been repaired under warranty. But even when Transtech called they gave them a runaround. I was encouraged to file a small claim against Kamaaina Motors regarding my vehicle by many certified mechanics during this time. I still might pending a final phone call from Mopar and Dodge. AVOID THIS PLACE. My best experience has been with Aiona Car Sales thus far. Highly recommend. read more

I've never done a review ever but the terrible service here has prompted me to do so. I know this review may be overlooked, but trust me, im a Hilo-born local who gave these guys a chance, instead they tried to take advantage and added a problem to my vehicle, which affected my life heavily for a bit. So watch out as yours could be affected as well, or atleast add a bit of stress which nobody needs. My employees brought in a truck for service and check engine light. Shortly after, they say the truck takes in gas slowly. takes 15 minutes to fill it up all the way. if you press the pump normally, gas spits out. So right after service, a new problem comes up. Means a mistake happened during service. Im a busy guy, so I find time to get involved about 2 months after. I call Kamaaina motors. 1) My conversation with the lady who takes calls. I say this problem has something to do with the work done on it when we brought it in. Immediately she gets offended and says she hopes the place doesnt do that. In all fairness, she's not the mechanic so she may not have known, but she needs to consider my view as well. She did good by forwarding me to her manager. 2) Talking with manager. He says he doesn't know how the service and this gas-filling problem are connected. I say we're entitled to a free diagnoses as the service and new problem are so close, they must have done something wrong. Businesses should offer something if they screw up, not another diagnoses fee. 3) We dont go to kamaaina motors. Instead we take it to another mechanic. They find a clamp squeezing on one of the tubes underneath the truck. After its removed, the gas goes in normally. Again, I would not recommend going to this place for service. They will add more problems to your vehicle so that you have to bring it in. If you have time to waste or think you can argue with them and go in a round-about, be my guest. But if you have better things to do, care about your vehicle, only want to bring your vehicle in once, and dont want to waste money, avoid this place. read more

I have been dealing with these guys since 2014 and have an extended warranty on my 2014 Jeep Rubicon. Normally not very problematic until this recent visit which has taken me over the top. I went in on 12/22/17 for my normal service. I confirmed that they would also check everything out. This included doing a safety check. It should also be noted that I have to drive almost 100 miles each way, with little to no services in between, to get to this dealer. I was notified by text and phone call that my jeep service was complete. When I picked up the jeep and paid for the safety check I was NOT informed of any problems whatsoever. I did ask. I drove home and parked the jeep. The next day in looking at the service papers I realized that the technician RECOMMENDED a pressure test to locate a possible leak due to traces of coolant on AC compressor and Freon T Differential and because the reservoir was at minimal level when I arrived. It was indicated that he topped off the levels. I am a senior lady but not stupid. We all know what happens when we have no coolant/water in a vehicle! I immediately went outside and checked the reservoir and it again is almost empty at minimal level. Sadly it is Christmas Eve (Sunday) and this matter cannot be dealt with until Tuesday. Am I to drive another 100 miles each way take care of this? Absolutely ridiculous it should have been handled when I was there. read more

This service is expensive, and the quality doesn't match the price. In my last experience there, they didn't reset the change oil. There was no new mileage sticker. Before leaving my vehicle with them, no one bothered to ask me for my correct contact number. So my truck was sitting there for three hours, ready to go. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE FOR SERVICE!!!! I brought my car in for a minor repair. Not only did they not fix the original issue, but they replaced a part and now it won't even turn over. I never got updates during the 2+ weeks they had it, I had to call them to find out what was going on. Now, they told me not only can they not fix the damage they caused, but "sorry, you can have your car towed away now." I am absolutely furious! I have no car, no real apology (which should come from the owner) and no restitution. read more

The WORST car dealer on the Island. First of all, their service is highly lacking! From a service staff who cannot repair a misaligned dashboard on a new car to a clerical staff who cannot type the name on a refund check correctly, this dealer is one to be avoided. Their service staff has left grease marks all of the interior of our car, parts and screws rolling around in the cup holders, and tools in the cargo area. The clerical staff spelt the name on a warranty refund check wrong even with it being on file. They are the only Dodge/Chrylser/Jeep dealer in Hilo. That being said, avoid this dealer and go to Kona Auto Center or to a dealer on Oahu. There are much better deals to be found there. read more

My original posting ended up on Kamaaina Nissan reviews. Basically I had my truck towed to this dealership for brake repairs and someone reverse it into a yellow post and did not own up to it, The tow truck driver checked it out and I was with him prior to towing it so I know my rear bumper was not damaged. At the repair shop a caliper bolt was replaced with a regular grade 8 bolt with washers in it and truck returned to me a week later with a list of $6000 other repairs needed such as ball joints wheel bearings, steering . I had a mechanic friend help me and I did the repairs and upon removing the old parts found out that it did not need replacing as everything was still tight. It wasn't until a week later, my garage in Kona is dark and I brought the truck home and parked it and ordered parts, that i found the damaged bumper. I bought the truck used and I bought a brand new bumper as the old one had a small dent and I wanted a perfect bumper so I know the bumper was not damaged and it was checked by the tow driver prior to being left at the repair shop. My experience was almost the exact same is Chris's unfortunately. I purchased a brand new 2012 Dodge Durango. Within the first 2 months of owning it I starting having issues. It has had to be towed in twice and I have been to the dealership over a dozen times within my first 18 months of owning the vehicle. I was given a similar comment that Chris received. Among all the issues they have had to repair there is an issue with the transmission. I have not experienced this issue with any other vehicle nor the 2014 Durango. When I showed them the issue I was told, "That is normal for a 2012 Dodge Durango". Bottom line is they sold me a vehicle that calling it a lemon would be a compliment and every time I have to get it towed in and repaired or go down there and get it repaired I feel like they think they are doing me a favor rather than understanding how much of an inconvenience it is to have to constantly deal with issues on a new vehicle. read more

I came here to check up on my new Jeep Cherokee 2014 I purchased earlier this year for a software update. In general I am very happy with the ease and knowledge of this place. I worked with Travis T. In the service dept and he was very knowledgable with my Cherokee. If he didn't know something he was quick to talk to other specialists who knew the answer. Also when I had questions about paint jobs he was quick to refer me to several places around the area. My 15 Jeep Wrangler was having " electrical " issues. I took it took it the Wren in the service sept. He was friendly, helpful and willing to talk on the phone to my boyfriend, who knows the Jeep better than I do. Wren said he and the techs could not get the Jeeps warning lights to come on. After extensive driving, and even putting fuel in it for me, the tech checked the fuse box, and put it back together. The Jeep's warning lights would still not turn on. Wren contacted me and told me he could not charge me since he technically did not diagnose the problem. I have complete confidence in This jeep dealership's service sept and their amazing employee Wren! I will only bring my Jeep back to Wren! I have had issues with dealerships on the mainland trying to upcharge me and buy parts for vehicles that did not solve the problem.... I put all my trust in kamaina Jeep in Hilo! They said it was normal! Huh! They cleaned the battery leads and sent me on my way...I've just now replaced it to the tune of over $150 dollars...Clint's tells me there is nothing normal about it, which I should have known, since it's never happened on any car I've ever owned before. My father and mother purchased a 2015 Dodge Charger Hemi. Car doesn't want to start. Taken 3 times for same issue , told its the battery. Under warranty, towed to service dept. Told " he must be leaving something on ". Car driven home , 40 miles, car can't start . We know that indicates something else in charging system not working correctly. This is the most incompetent dealership svs dept EVER! I called the svs. mgr. & asked if I purchased a PCM off ebay, would they flash it. He said they have to charge a diagnostic fee. I explained DTC PO700 came up (TCM) and we already had a transmission shop pull the codes from the TCM (PO613 / PO602) saying the TCM had internal failure. He said he would waive the diagnostic fee & charge $110 to flash it if I installed it myself before it went in the shop. I ordered a PCM (thinking the TCM was integrated in it,) & took it in. They had my husband install the new PCM & push the truck in the shop. My husband sat in the waiting room & saw the truck drive by. He called me saying, "It must have fixed it!" Later, a tech came & told him, "We can't flash used PCM's b/c Chrysler puts a PIN on them. Instead, we reinstalled your original PCM & took it for a drive & it went into limp mode... (No DUH! That's why we initially took it to have the DTC codes pulled from the TCM!) They quoted him from $1900 to $5,000+ & advised him NOT to drive it until they fixed it! Thank God, my Jeep broke down & I needed him to come get me! We already had diagnosed and was told the TCM was bad (a $200 part!) They said it needed a new throttle body, harness assembly, and lots of other repairs. They charged my husband $120 to diagnose it EVEN though Joe, the svs. mgr. previously agreed NOT to re-diagnose it or charge a diagnosis fee! They NEVER asked my husband if he wanted them to reinstall the original PCM and re-diagnose it! When my husband came to get me, I called & Travis told me, "If the recommended repairs we quoted don't fix it, we'll have to try replacing the TCM or transmission!" I asked him WHY did the service mgr. let me order a used PCM online if they KNEW they can't reflash them? He said he can't answer for him. They obviously just wanted to get our truck in their shop then scare us into leaving it there, saying it would cause further damage. When we got home, I called Chrysler.There was NO way our truck needed $1900 to $5K+ in repairs! We bought our truck Brand-New, ALWAYS had it serviced at the dealership (on the mainland) & ALWAYS kept it in the garage. It only had less than 43K miles! An angel at Chrysler agreed to intervene. The svs mgr told them it needed all the recommended repairs. Chrysler was willing to help with the costs. I told the rep., "Once they do all the work they claim needs to be done, the truck is still NOT going to run b/c I know the TCM is fried!" The rep. called the svs. mgr. back & we set-up an appt. to go speak with him. He put a scan tool under our dash and got DTC P1698 (BUS not communicating with TCM.) He agreed the TCM should be the first thing they do, then go from there. We left the truck there. Over TWO weeks went by & we finally got a call from the Chrysler rep saying they replaced the PCM & DTC P1698 is still there so they need to replace the TCM & it will be at least another week before it is there. WHY did he order & install a PCM if the TCM is a SEPARATE unit?!? Chrysler agreed to pay the dealership for the WRONG part & labor to install it. TWO more weeks went by & we got a call from the dealership saying the truck was ready for pick-up. All it needed was a TCM that has 3 screws and 1 connector to replace it! Our truck sat in the salty rain for ONE MONTH. Had we known it would be SO long, we could have parked it in a friend's garage in town & suspended our insurance which cost $70/mo! The svs mgr is absolutely clueless & extremely rude. He had me come into his office, close the door & said, "Ya sob story about ya kid isn't my problem. I don't even get see my family!" I was HORRIFIED!!! Our daughter is living on a prayer & has to undergo grueling, surgeries! When they initially told us our vehicle needed upwards from $1900 to $5K+ in repairs, I explained we left our lives & jobs on the mainland to be nearer to our daughter w/ malignant mesothelioma & said we can't afford to leave our truck there with a blank check for them to play 'hit-or-miss' until they figure out the problem! After basically saying he couldn't care less about our situation, he said, "Sometimes customers gotta pay for things the service techs do. We can't always know exactly what is wrong so we try different things out." I asked WHY he ordered & installed a PCM when he sat there & agreed our TCM was bad. He said, "I shoulda had a technician look undda da hood an see if they was separate parts. That was my fault." I said, "Your tech, Travis told me, "All you had to do was enter our VIN# & you would have seen they are separate parts!" Joe said he wouldn't charge if they did any unnecessary repairs. (B.S.!) I asked if he charged Chrysler for the PCM & labor. He huffed, "Juz foget it... you don't have to pay the $100 deductible!" *Chrysler called us & said, "Joe called & said to tell you, if you don't pay him $100 deductible, you are NEVER welcome back! They didn't fix recalled airbag! Now what?! read more

Great sales representatives even though I hardly had anytime to be infront of the sales manager my sales representative did his job and took the time to make sure I found the best car for me. When I came in to purchase a vehicle coming straight from the mainland I chose to purchase here even though there was a lot of the same type of cars I needed from the other dealers because it was easy going. I purchased a used car not a new one. But I was given the oppurtunity to have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic in town of which I paid for. Due to COVID could not bring my truck in for service. So today my truck went in. Here the problem. Oil bolt was on super super tight which its should be hand tight. Again due to COVID. change oil at home of course certified mechanic couldn't get the oil bolt off. So call Kamaaina Motors explained the issue.. I had to make an appointment OMG.. Spoke to service agent asking her to speak to the service manager Christy. She was busy she'll call me back..she return my call, but I miss her call. Moving forward so today my truck goes in , my daughter takes it in.. Service manager Christy spoke to my regarding my truck issues. While speaking to Christy her customer service is so bad, try to explain to her she argued to me as customer that how the bolt suppose to be.. Told her no thats no how its suppose to be.. I had a certificate mechanic who told me to take it ba k to kamaaina motors since they was the last mechanic who touch it, have them fix the problem which I was trying to. OMG Christy had the nerve to say why couldn't the mechanic take the oil bolt off, told her again its your certified mechanic who had tightened it.. Christy started to be very sarcastic, didn't want to hear the problem. While she talking to me on the phone which was my daughter cell phone, give phone to my daughter an walk away.. making more sarcastic comments.. IS THIS THE KIND OF SERVICE MANAGER DOES KAMAAINA MOTORS HAVE RUDE, SARCASTIC, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE.. FYI my family been going to Kamaaina Motors for years.. Its sad this whats happening.. Previously my husband and I walked the used car lot and never got approached. When we looked we were looking to buy. As you approach there is one used and new lot put together you can't really tell the difference. No one is in the used warehouse area part office I guess but that's the only bad that I have about this place. Then you see across the street a business like building that has all logos etc. As I pulled up in the area where it looks like the place of business and parked. Walking across to the (dead) area after almost going into this building to see if anyone is there. I hear a (HELLO) from across the street Krystal Yago introduces her self. I basically tell her that my husband wants a 4door diesel, manual, 4X4, exhaust brakes and never need to be new prefer used. She basically went straight to the managers and said hay this is and this is what she wants. The truck we wanted literally just came in and we went to the service department to check it out. I took pictures sent it to my husband and the deal was on. I asked to have a application and if we can turn it in the next day. Did that got an answer at the end of the day got a proposal signed. We asked for payments lowered or the same and a trade in.....awesome!! Now we needed to wait for there inspection on the vehicle before releasing it so basically 2days not a big deal and time to think. Never test drove it, they made it look like a total different truck. So. I went in and looked at a Jeeps. I told them I'm not in a rush for a SUV because it was my birthday gift. They were pushy as hell. I told them I wanted to finance with my bank they completely ignored my request and turned in application to a mainland bank ! I called back in a week to find out where do I arrange my payments! The Sales Manager no longer with the company. It's been 3 weeks and I still have not got a call back. I called this morning to check on the status of my plates and they still haven't come in and my sales rep is no longer with the company. So... I hate to give this a bad review ! But do not buy a vehicle from them !!! I repeat !! Go somewhere else that is more organized. This place makes me regret buying my vehicle. read more

Their moto, "Car People Who Care", is a complete joke. I would give these guys negative stars if I could. These guys do not stand behind the cars they sell and will squeeze you for every penny they can get out of you. After buying a used car with extremely low miles, the clutch and one of the rear calipers already needed to be replaced after 1 week. Within the first 3 months, the car was in the shop for 9 weeks for engine and electrical problems. The sales manager, Randy, refused to help me or even treat me with respect for choosing their dealership over the others in Hilo. Randy would constantly either give me lip service or treat me like I was retarded; I'm a premed student for S#!t sake. I was constantly told that these problems were a result of me choosing this car, and they were unaware of any of these issues. I feel absolutely scammed by this dealership and wouldn't even let my worst enemies buy a car here. Please take this as a warning of this dealership and think about buying a car elsewhere. read more

I bought a brand new 2007 dodge mega cab in 08 since then, like Chris K. we had nothing but problems since then, the best part is that we paid cash up front and also bought the extended warranty. I had the truck fixed so many times I was about to do the lemon law, but they told me no. They told me to trade it in and buy the 2012 mega cab and pay over 28,000 cash. I told them that they were insane(nuts). Now I just had it service (lube) they are telling me that more stuff needs replacing because the diesel engine is to heavy so need to change the steering box and linkage. And all I went in there for was for then to put the steering wheel straight cause the mechanic put it on crooked. They think we don't know anything about trucks. Lose money. No more buy dodge. Buy FORD, CHEVY OR TOYOTA. read more
