**5/5 Stars -- Exceptional, Honest, and Reliable Service!** I cannot recommend Ian enough! I called him out to check two ceiling fans that had stopped working, and he arrived quickly to diagnose the issue. He immediately pinpointed the problem--faulty fan receivers--and was able to take care of it on the spot. Both fans are up and running perfectly now! Ian will be returning soon to replace the receivers and remotes, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. On top of offering extremely fair and reasonable pricing, he is an absolute professional, deeply knowledgeable, kind, and incredibly humble. Finding honest, prompt, and exemplary service like this is rare. If you need electrical work done right, Ian is your guy! read more

In the busy week after the storm, I was fortunate that Ian could squeeze me into his schedule. He responded to my call a few years ago and I remembered that he was helpful. This time we had a new ceiling fan with a bracket that didn't fit the old junction box. Over the phone, Ian warned me that a new junction box may require a ceiling repair after the installation. Luckily, Ian decided to modify the bracket to fit the old junction box and easily installed the new fan. I'm not certain other electricians would have gone through that trouble. He and his assistant saved us the cost of a new junction box install and a the expense of a ceiling repair! Thank you Ian for your creative thinking, honesty and integrity. read more

Summary: very communicative and transparent, competitive pricing, our new go-to electrician. Found Ian and Kama'aina Electric via Yelp after messaging and calling a handful of the best reviewed electricians. Ian was available soonest and had the most competitive pricing. He was upfront that pricing might change depending on the complexity of the situation once he evaluated in-person, which I totally get. We hired Kama'aina Electric to replace 5 lights we ordered from Wayfair (dining room chandelier, entry way and bedroom ceiling lights). Ian and Kawika were friendly towards my family, including my ultra curious toddler son who could have been an annoyance getting in their way, but they were super nice about it. As they removed the existing lights, Ian was very communicative about pointing out some possible risks with the way the old light was installed and let us decide how to proceed forward. They kept us in the loop throughout the process, confirming light placement and position. Unfortunately, some of the old lights were installed in a way that hid some major issues, so we were not able to get the full project done, but as an experienced homeowner, I know it's no one's fault, since you never know what the situation is until you open up the ceiling and walls. I appreciated that Ian kept me informed the whole way through. Now I need to go get the ceiling issues fixed, and then I will be giving Ian a call right away to get him scheduled so we can finish up this project. Highly recommend! read more

Ian and Kawika are pros. I like that they answered on the first call. I got an appointment the same day, and they showed up on time, texted before arrival, and texted if they'd be early or late. The estimate I got was what I paid. They worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves. The work they did was excellent. I had three ceiling light fixtures repaired. One was a replacement. One was a fluorescent light where the ballast was bad. Ian removed the ballast and converted it to LED. Much better! Lastly, they replaced a 60 year-old recessed light with an LED fixture. They solved all my problems quickly and for just under $400. read more

We live in an older home (built in the 1950's) which makes repairing existing structures very challenging. Some of our switches needed replacing and thru the great yelp reviews, I had the good fortune to meet Ian. I explained the problems we were experiencing and he knew exactly what needed to be done. He offered to guide us over the phone but at this point, we didn't feel confident to do the fix and asked for his help. He came up and resolved our situation in 15 minutes!! Ian was honest, knowledgeable, professional and just a NICE person!! We recommend Kamaaina Electric to everyone who is looking for top notch customer service and exceptional workmanship. read more

I wish Yelp allowed SIX STARS! Ian & Kawika are everything you want in a contractor...knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, honest and professional. I'm so happy that I finally found an electrician that's a pleasure to work with. read more

Ian and Kawika were great. Ian responded within an hour of my inquiry, asked questions to understand my issue and then gave me an estimate and window of time to come fix our kitchen outlet. He texted a reminder the day before and called that morning to ask if I was flexible for him to come earlier. Usually you end up sitting around wondering if they will show up or not. He arrived, with mask, and set to work. He was also very patient and clear in communicating what he found, how he was going to fix it, and answer all our questions. We would recommend him and use him again! This is the first time I used Yelp to find a tradesman, and I'm going to do it again if I need a plumber, etc. We got 3 names recommended and 2 of the 3 had bad reviews. Another name referral didnt have correct contact Info or return call. On Yelp! I reached out to 3 who had decent reviews, all 3 returned my call and 1 could not do the job, the 3rd called after I'd already booked kama'aina but were still courteous and helpful. Mahalo nui loa! read more

Wall plug repaired. Called in the morning. Same day service. Fast friendly service at a reasonable price.

I called for an estimate and got a prompt reply. They modernized all the receptacles and GFI's in the apartment (circa 1986). Their estimate was spot on and I feel like I got excellent service from Kama'aina Electric. I'll hire them again when I upgrade another apartment. read more

I needed an electrician to install a 110V outlet in my washer/dryer closet for the replacement LG washer and dryer I just purchased (compact space with failing Bosch Axxis units that run on 220V; the only manufacturer that still runs all units on EU voltage). Ian and Kawika did an awesome job in very little time . Because we had a quality electrical contractor on-site , we asked them to upgrade our exterior lighting which has been a 'pain in the butt' and very scary for so many years. They fixed all and had to deal with messed up conduit and wiring sunk into concrete and major rock formations. They did incredible work in short time and I am so grateful that we have folks in our neighborhood that excel like this. read more

The outlet for my refrigerator started to spark.. pretty scary, very stressful. Ian came highly recommended, and he was able to fit me in same day on a Friday. So lucky! These guys were AMAZING. The previous owner of my condo did a ton of (Terrible) DIY to the electrical that hindered me from installing a washer/dryer. Multiple electricians told me they could not do the job but Ian and his team knocked it out like it was nothing and brought everything up to code! Price for the work was very fair and I'm very happy with their quality of work. I would highly recommend these guys 100x over. Thank you! read more

Kama'aina Electric was recommended to me by our building manager. Previous electricians I'd worked with over the decades had either retired, or were not interested in smaller condo jobs. Ian was quick to answer his phone when i called, and an appointment was made. Ian and Kawika arrived on time, which I appreciate. When I told Ian the problem on the phone, he told me what he thought the issue may be, and when they looked at the switch and plugs, he was spot on. Not much more to say other than boom boom boom, the issue was fixed, and the switches improved. Both Ian and Kawika are friendly, easy and comfortable to have in the home. And, as others have stated here, their rate was very fair. Do I recommend Kama'aina Electric? You betcha! read more

I contacted Ian about a tubular light in the kitchen that couldn't be installed. Over the phone, Ian said that it might be that the entire light fixtures themselves may have to be installed costing hundreds. However, when he came in for a free estimate, he simply installed the one light swiftly and was honest about not having to have the entire system changed. He is definitely in my contacts for any future electrics needs. read more

I am writing another review for them. Is that allowed? They fixed my first problem with a simple light switch and they came back to fix my major issue of changing out my super old electric panel. First off, they were super understanding about last minute rescheduling because of the storm causing elevator issues in my building. Second, the work they did. I asked them to also change out an outlet in the bathroom and check the kitchen ceiling led light. Ian provided an awesome suggestion for the bathroom to make it less crowded by combining the light switch and outlet into one combo unit which is saving wall space in my tiny bathroom. Came out looking way better. After they replaced the panel, they just put the kitchen light back together and it worked so he didn't try to charge me extra for the kitchen light. We stayed only for about 1 hour out of the 5-6 hours of work so they easily could've said they had to do plenty stuff to make it work but he said they reassembled it and it worked without them doing anything. They're honest when it comes to advice, pricing, everything. Trust means everything to me and I feel so good about them. Ian and Kawika are courteous, punctual, all the good stuff you want in people working on something as critical as your electric wiring! Recommend hands down. Great work, fair price. read more

Called Ian the other day for electrical issue. Set the appt date and showed up to diagnose the issue. It was a free estimate and a repair cost thereafter. It turned out to be a non-issue and everything checked out okay. He explained the issue very plainly and straightforward that was easy to understand.
