this post is circulating around on FB. can agree with teachers getting lil to no training required. and the kids are disrespectful and the teachers do nothing
"This is what you get for standing up. Kalani High School has been treating me terribly. No wonder why I stopped going to class last year. If you are thinking of sending your children here, please read this and know about how some students can act and how their "well-trained" teachers act, the new ones.
I was assigned to do a group project with boys who recently got arrested for vandalism, one had returned from 7 months of whatever he had to serve. They were talking about how it is fine to rape girls. I went to my teacher, who has only been working as a teacher for a year or so and is twenty-three with very little training, and told him "I do not want to do this group assignment and I will take an F." He asked me why I chose to take an F and I told him, "I don't feel comfortable being around these boys and my boyfriend wouldn't either, I respect him (and myself)." I meant that I wanted to stay as far away from these boys as possible, both him and I agreed on that rule. I had already settled (before I met my boyfriend) on not talking to any boys or girls who decided to waste their life away doing terrible things like that. I was there to learn, not to hear them screaming and talking about the time they bought cocaine at the age of twelve. The reason why I began to stop coming to class was for that reason, because I couldn't concentrate on my work. I was too afraid to speak up to get a new seat far away from the loud people last year.
After meeting my boyfriend, he helped me become more confident in myself, including feeling beautiful in my own skin instead of putting product on my face.
Last week Friday was when this incident happened, my boyfriend always encouraged me to stand up and speak out to if I felt uncomfortable, which was something I was unable to during freshman year due to high anxiety. I decided to stand up for myself and went straight up to his desk and told him. He asks why, and I tell him. He then goes on to say, "Absolutely not! I will not let you ruin my class because of a 'jealous boyfriend'." He said this extremely loud, everyone looked. I felt my throat tighten and my stomach drop, and I could feel the tears. I felt humiliated and then I felt rage. He not only judged and insulted my boyfriend and me, he also purposely humiliated me. I turned around and I packed my bags, grabbed my phone, turned it on and went straight to texting Cameron while I hurriedly put my papers back into my bag while racing tears. I ran out and the teacher calls from his desk, very loudly, "Tabitha, TABITHA, you can't leave my class!" and he follows me out the door, so I give him the Calm Pass which was made just for me for my anxiety. I tell him I was going to the counselors. I took it back and he yells once again, this time for the whole building to hear. He says, "You still have to do the project!" I planned to get to the counselors but I didn't want anyone to see me crying. I go into the bathrooms, lock the stall and cry, loudly. I text my in-home therapist that this is the highest level of anxiety I've felt, ever. I text my mom to take me home. I call up my boyfriend and tell him everything that happened.
I thought that this issue would've been sorted out, that the administration would've talked to my teacher. I've been afraid of going back, because of what people will say to me or about me, or that I will be forced to go back to his class. The administration calls up my dad, tells them that I was taking to Cameron as the whole thing happened and that it is advised that he should take away my phone so I can no longer see my boyfriend. They blamed it on him, they blamed it on me. They obviously talked to my teacher to get what happened, but they never talked to me. So now I am being accused for calling people while in class (the last time I called him before the incident was during lunch time so I do not know how my teacher got that idea) and I am the one getting blamed for standing up for myself, and the teacher apparently did nothing wrong.
I am afraid that when I return tomorrow that the same teacher will force me to do the project with those boys again. If you are considering bringing your kids to Kalani High, please reconsider and think about the people who you will be surrounding your children with. You should also meet with their teachers." read more
