After much research I settled on the Kake Korner to make the cake for my good friend's bridal shower. The reviews I read gave me the confidence to order from them but the proximity to my home put me over the edge. I looked at their gallery and went in with an idea. They sketched out a design and I went with it. But after discussing it with a few people I opted for another design I found in the gallery. They were very accommodating with changing the design. I picked up the cake the day of the shower and was excited to see it. It didn't disappoint! At the shower, everyone was in love and awe with the cake. As one guest said, sometimes pretty cakes don't taste good, but this one did!!!! The bride loved it as did the groom. Right down the street from my hotel sits a cute bakery that specializes in cakes and cupcakes. Upon arrival it's not your typical looking bakery. It looks like a house with all the cuteness you'd imagine from a kids room...bright and full of colors. I walked in and to my left was where you order your cakes and cupcakes for your special occasion. To your right is where you can take regular and jumbo cupcakes, slices of cake, and whoopie pies home with you. In the case there were at least 30 flavors to choose from. I told a half dozen cupcakes home. The flavors I chose based on my picture from left to right are as follows: Smores, Cookies and Cream, Strawberry, White cupcake with Chocolate Frosting, Marble Cupcake, and Pineapple. All the cupcakes were extremely moist and had that homemade taste to them! The icing wasnt too sweet and it didn't leave that oily taste that some icings do. The only reason I gave this 4 stars is that my least favorite was the cookies and cream. The icing tasted a bit off and gave a bad aftertaste. Everything else however was fantastic. The customer service was great and I'll definitely had to bring back some cake slices home the next time I'm up there. read more

I have lived, worked, and gone to school in Laurel for over ten years and have never been here! Pulling into the parking lot you can literally SMELL the cupcakes stepping out of your car. I go inside because I really just want "one" cupcake and I end up buying three... That's a good number jic they weren't that great or just in case they were. There were about 15 flavors of cupcakes available that day. I got almond, chocolate on chocolate and marble. I really wanted to try the snickerdoodle but it was in the oven and I didn't have time to wait. The cupcakes are moist and the icing is perfect. The chocolate wasn't my favorite bc it wasn't chocolatey enough but that almond.... AMAZING. so worth going back and trying other flavors and they have cool daily specials! read more

This was my first time ordering from Kake Korner and the taste, moistness, and designer design were great! However........., I was not happy with the overall effect of the cake. I expected it to look more like the picture - whatta wallet in their gallery- but it seems I just received a rectangular shaped cake with not much attention to wallet effect details. The shoe was adorable that was placed on the cake but it did not have a red bottom as requested. Lastly, I didn't taste any rum flavoring at all and asked a couple of guest and they couldn't tell as well. For the money you pay you want everything to be right. I've used Kake Korner twice, and had great experiences both times. The most recent time was for a retirement party - I ordered a cake and 2 dozen cupcakes. Chose this place for my father in laws 60th bday. It was the best experience with a bakery that I've ever had! An exaggeration? Nope and here's why. Let's talk customer service. We went in on a Saturday afternoon and the place was packed which by the way is a good sign. But what was most impressive is the wait wasn't too long because they were organized. Everyone was given a number but weren't treated like one. I watched as she individually met with everyone and eagerly listened to their vision. Most ppl knew exactly what they wanted but when it came to us we had one thing in mind but she used her expertise to explain to us a better option. she was patient and not condescending as we tried to work through the process. When we returned for pickup there was no wait and we were very pleased with the results. The Cake was beautiful so much so that our guests thought it was a custom decoration. Now on to taste. Every once in a while you'll come across a business on YELP that has incredibly high ratings either because the people reviewing the place don't know any better or they'll just give high praise for the hell of it. In this case, Kake Korner's reviews are wholly unjustified (in my opinion). After reading all of the reviews I've come to the conclusion that the reviewers are either friends or family members of the people who own this operation. Or, they just have no freakin idea what the hell a good cake taste like. We came here today for a cake tasting. From the onset I got the impression that there was no organized protocol in place for people inquiring about weddings. Typically when you go for a cake tasting, you make an appointment and the bakery will actually cut slices of cake for you to try before you come in. In this case, they simply told us to try their cupcakes when we walked into the door. This made no sense to me since we didn't come to try cupcakes but actual cake. They didn't go over their flavors or icing options with us either. They just walked us into the 'cupcake room' and told us to try any cupcake we wanted. Since they were nice enough to make this offer, we of course accepted. It hurts to say this but these cupcakes were just BAD. I mean really f&*^ bad. Tasted like food coloring, box mix, and the cheapest ingredients you could conjure together in a greasy, stale mess. I couldn't eat a single one of these things let alone a sliver of one, even though they were free. But I was polite and gave the folks working here the benefit of the doubt because they are an independent business and I'm a strong advocate for small businesses. But then they hit us with the prices... We were quoted $7.50 a slice as the flat rate for tier wedding cakes. On top of that we were told that our design idea (mosaic) would be an additional $400. This put a bad taste in my mouth on top of the bad cupcake flavor that was already in there. To me, you never look at someone's picture of a wedding cake and just throw out some obscenely high number because you think it will be extra labor. The best bakeries in the state charge $7.50 a slice and this place is nowhere near that status. Based off the quality of the cupcakes you couldn't even pay me $7.50 to eat a slice of this cake. It's a shame because the people working here seemed like nice enough folks who I would have considered giving business to. When they remodel this place over the next week they should remodel quite a few other things. Train employees properly for one thing... offer actual slices of cake for people inquiring about cakes (not cupcakes)... Have a table where guest can actually sit... Make real cupcakes.. and make your employees wear some kind of uniformed attire, not hospital scrubs. I felt like I was in a waiting room at a children's health clinic. Speaking of which, I think I'd rather get my blood drawn than support this place. read more

Let the record show that I am NOT a cake person. Too Sweet... Anyway my daughter was turning 16 and wanted a cake from Charm City Cakes (she loves Duff). I checked thier website and after my wife jump started me with the defibulator I told my daughter that I could not pay the $1000 down payment for a cake. She was a very unhappy girl. She wanted a cake with a panda, and we had not found anyone willing to do it. So my wife and I went into Kake Korner (2 blocks from the house for 30+ years, never been there) and explained what we wanted. We were told no problem. We came back a few days later and they blew us away. More importantly when it was unveiled to my daughter she made all of the happy squeling sounds girls should make on occasion. It was beautiful. Read the very first line and come back to here...it was really good. Wonderful flavor. So, it did cost about $120...not bad considering. My wife, son, and daughter love the cupcakes as well. For my they are ok but not nearly worth the price of $2 ea. read more

Now I love me some Cake! And this place has one of the best tasting cake and frosting that I have had in the DMV area. It taste homemade and not store or manufactured. This is my 5th Kake Korner Cake, and the first one that I have ordered (they have an amazing selection of pre-made cakes) and I could not be more pleased with how it turned out! I've had their chocolate, yellow, carrot, and spice cakes and each one is awesome. It's true that these cakes are not cheap, but they're not that expensive either, especially when you consider how amazing the designs and taste are. I've spoken with several of the employees at Kake Korner and each one is helpful and polite. Tastings are free (and very good!). I went in with a basic idea and the woman I spoke to was able to flesh it out and work within my budget. I've had 2 cakes from this place already and enjoyed both. This past November I ordered one in the shape of a house to celebrate our new home. A couple weeks ago I had one made with Sonic The Hedgehog theme on it for my sons 6th birthday. I went to cake corner in June to request a cake be made for my husband's change of command ceremony at Fort Meade. I brought photos of what I was looking for, and the staff was super friendly and accomodating to my request, and also made sure that I stayed within budget ($250). They even made suggestions for add ons to the cake to make it more spectacular! About 10 days before the event was scheduled to take place, my husband had a cardiac episode at work and spent the next 10 days in the ICU at Walter Reed. I was terrified that because I had paid in full and was advised of the "no refunds" policy, that I would have to suck the cake up as a loss, but one phone call was made and the employees assured me that it was no problem to postpone the cake being made until my husband's ceremony could be rescheduled. After a few weeks, I called and gave Kake Korner a new date for the ceremony and as always, the staff was polite and accomodating. On August 2, I went to pick up the cake and as luck goes, an enormous thunderstorm started dumping rain out of the sky. I arrived in store soaking wet and the staff wrapped the HUGE cake in plastic wrap so that it wouldn't be damaged. AWESOME!!! On August 3, my husband took command of his company and everyone at the reception commented on how amazing the cake was. The Battalion Commander even approached me and said that he had "won the award" for best cake he's ever seen at a function. Today (August 8th) I even recieved a follow up telephone call from Kake Korner, asking me how the cake was. I told them how wonderfully it was received and that I would use them again without hesitation. With everything that I/they had to go through to make this cake a reality, I can say, hands down, that this is a professional business and that their cake work can't be beat! This review is focused on the cupcakes and customer service, not for their elaborate cakes. The cupcakes are fine. Just that, fine. Fine like a Subway 6 inch sub is fine. The disadvantage that Kake Korner has, however, is that at Subway you don't fork over an arm and a leg for an average product. The cupcakes are big and inconsistently frosted. Some have it smeared across the cake like I made it at home, others have nice piping. The cake itself is moist and bland. If the price wasn't already ridiculous enough, the customer service is awful. I absolutely love this place! My best friend had her daughters cake made here and it was so good. way better than her wedding cake that was done at Charm City Cakes. So when my birthday rolled around I got my cake here and was blown away. The frosting is great the cakes are so moist and the people are really sweet and patient. They appreciate their customers here and I have been loyal ever since. I just placed an order there today and I cannot wait to see the end result!
