We ordered takeout from Kakatiya and it was great. We've never been inside the actual restaurant, because we prefer eating it at home. Therefore, I can't speak to the service or ambiance, but I can share that the food was good! We ordered the Vijaywada Chicken Biryani and Butter chicken. Both were delicious. I was here for a friends get together party this weekend. We were about 30 plus and I am so surprised the way the restaurant has handled our orders. A menu that is focused on a quick service South Indian dishes and drinks in a relaxed with no-frills setting. Here the food is very delicious and the quality is just like the food tasting. I was blown away with all the dishes that I tried here. Pradeep the owner and his team has done an outstanding service. Since this restaurant is big on take-outs, we have pre-ordered full trays for the items like Paneer 65, Mysore Bajji, Chicken 65, Veg Gobi Pulao, and Chicken Biryani. Good quantity and food tasted so yummy. My favorite from here is Chicken 65 and Chicken Biryani. I was amazed to see how little kids were entertained with kids show playing on the TV while parents enjoyed their meal. Lots of vegetarian options from South Indian to North Indian dishes. Strongly recommend Kakatiya for any of your events or parties. They also do live Dosa stand and Pani Puri station. The staff is really good and helpful. Place is well maintained and pretty clean. We decided to try the Indian Restaurant through suggestions provided by our friends for Goat Biryani. We ordered through Uber Eats and picked up from the restaurant. For dinner we ordered Goat Biryani, Kadai Chicken and Chicken 65. Goat Biryani: I have tried goat briyani from various restaurants but goat briyani from this was better than I most tried in Atlanta. 4/5 Kadai Chicken: Kadai chicken was good and it had right amount of spices. 4/5 Chicken 65: It was disappointment as compared to other two dishes. At an Indian buffet my philosophy is to "Eat like no one is watching" Unfortunately most of the time, someone is, and it's usually not pretty Today it was at Kakatiya that I loosened my belt. The restaurant is fairly spartan. Not a lot going on in terms of aesthetics. The buffet is set up along the back, again not fancy, just functional. Today's buffet had the following vegetarian options Mutter paneer, Spinach daal, Cabbage fry, Vegetable bullets and Naan bread. Papadam and Basmati Rice was brought out to the table. There were a few chicken dishes and chicken Biriyani on the buffet as well. While the dishes weren't excellent, they were all good. The flavor was there, just missing some love and depth to the spices. At $8.99 the buffet is a pretty good deal. We noticed the banner for "Indian fast food" and thought we'd try it because we enjoy Indian food but have never seen it as "fast food." Bottom line--the food was better than many regular Indian restaurants we've tried. It's a small place and the food is served on very flimsy plasticware, but there was nothing else fast-food-ish about it. They actually have a full menu (which we ordered our favorites from) but at lunch they also have a thali-style offering (basically a small platter giving you 6 or so different pre-prepared foods at once). read more

I'm not sure why people are giving any less than 4 stars for this restaurant. My hubby and I have lived all over America and I have travelled abroad. I mention this because I have eaten at many many different Indian restaurants over my lifespan. I've also tried multiple places around Alpharetta. Kakatiya is the best Indian in the area and definitely can hold a candle to some other great places we have eaten at elsewhere. Keep it up guys!!! read more

Don't let the name fool you ---------------------------- I was excited to try out this Kakatiya food and got disappointed. There was no Kakatiya food. So they changed the name of the restaurant from something else to Kakatiya. (Pronounced as Kaakatheeya). Telangana of southern India is known for its food varieties. Deccan (Hyderabadi) region is known for mughlai, nawabi style food. There are plenty of other areas where there are unique flavours. Under the ruling of Nizam kings this food has evolved and customized as per the local flavour and now has become a world famous Hyderabadi Biryani. Then there is Satavahana food style. Around Karimnagar area. I can write a whole book about it so leaving that topic aside for now. Now the Kakatiya ( Warangal/Orugallu) food came from Kakatiya dynasty. There was a mixture of brahmana, reddy, musunuri nayak kingdoms and etc. Food is a by product of various cultures and rulers. Kakatiya food is hot. Has various special ingredients that are unique to the region. Food has great flavour and great taste. It has no comparison with the Deccan food, North Indian or Andhra food. While the food can be americanized with less spices as per local taste at least the core needs to be there. The Core is the flavour. The whole essence of a dish. Well, this place neither has any actual dish in the menu from Kakatiya nor has a flavour from it in any dishes. Probably just a struggling restaurant trying their luck again with false advertising. (That's why I gave 3 stars. Hardworking people need to survive somehow) If you know how to connect to the culture and heritage through food, you would appreciate the food the way it has evolved. Southern India is an amazing place for food. It took thousands of years to develop the food that is there. There are literally a million ways to cook chicken or lentils. Some dishes remain as local favourites in few regions because some of the ingredients you get from that region has great flavour and liked by lot of people. So the recepies and the core remains the same forever. Bottom line is when you want to represent something, do not just use the name to chase money. Be passionate and have a real love for the thing. Good food! Typical low cost Indian atmosphere. People were fairly friendly and service was quick. Samosa chaat was good but could have been better with some mint and yogurt. I don't eat Indian food often. Maybe just a few times a year. This location was right next to the hotel I was staying in though so I gave it a shot. I got the chicken tikka marsala, buttered naan and some cauliflower appetizer. It was all great but I'd probably pass on the appetizer next time given how much food you get as an entrée. Very solid spot for Indian Lunch buffet. Generally eat here once a week due to convenience as well as the normally solid offering on the buffet bar. Staff is super friendly and always makes me feel like a regular which helps. Relatively small offerings on the buffet and I have been told that for the vegetarian it is not a great spot. On Sunday, July 5, we ordered 3 orders of Grilled Shrimp for takeout. It's one of our favorites. However the July 5th order of the dish was SUPER SALTY! It was totally inedible. We had guests at home and it was disappointing. I did inform the restaurant... and we did get an apology ( nothing else- even though we are regular take out customers there) . Since the after taste of the salty shrimp has yet to leave our mouth, don't think I would ever order from there. Btw- had to throw away the rest of the shrimp ( $$$ down the drain). read more
