Just the dive karaoke bar in New Orleans we were looking for after going to a live music show downtown. Kajun's Pub was the exact spot we wanted to keep riding our buzz and sing our hearts out. Karaoke is straight forward here. There is a kiosk by the DJ booth for you to enter your song selection when you are ready. TVs around the bar show you what queue or # you in as you wait for your turn to sing. I really enjoyed the karaoke host and felt she did a great job hosting throughout the night and making sure she got through the queue of people. Our friends were all able to get at least 1-2 of the songs on stage before we left. We had a blast watching through other folks get brave and sing their thing. Drinks and cocktails are easy to get at the walk up bar & outside patio is super cool to hang out on, smoke, and still be able to see/hear the karaoke going on. I recommend coming here if you want a pre-game, a game, or after the game spot to hang out and drink. We had a great time! read more

This spot is a staple of mine! I've been coming here on and off for five years now. My go-to move to end my work week is grabbing a drink & grub at Justini's or a cup of libations from The John Bar and then heading over here to Kajun's on St. Claude Ave to belt it out on the mic before heading home. As long as you buy a drink, you're in for karaoke! The song selection is a bit more pop-heavy and limited, but they have all the essential classics. The setup is great--the lyrics are clear on the screen so you can really sing your heart out. It has a true dive bar feel: straight to the point and a total blast. read more

Was in town for the weekend and decided to sing my heart out. This is my second time here, first time was a couple years ago. I don't remember much the first time but I enjoyed myself this time. This is a great late night public karaoke bar where you can't be shy with your vocals even if it's not to Mariah Carey's standards. Compared to other karaoke bars I've been to, there's a system where you can search for a song and add your name to the list without writing your name down on a piece of paper which I thought was neat. It wasn't crowded when I arrived but still a long queue before I was able to make everyone plug their ears. I think I waited about an hour and half before it was my turn. NO MAN OR SECURITY SHOULD EVER PUT THEIR HANDS ON A FEMALE AFTER THE WOMAN SAYS NO. I asked him to leave me alone. That should have been it. The male "security" is rude and physically abusive. Your female bartender is rude and dismissive. I will tell everyone to not go here. This place had a man as security grab me and my girlfriend, after I told him I do not want to talk to him & I asked him to leave me alone. That should have been it! He was incredibly aggressive and rude. Entitled. I asked to speak to the manager, the female bartender dismissed me. After tipping 40% on the bill each time. As a person in hospitality, they both were wrong. As a man you should NEVER put hands on a woman. You should never pressure a situation & agitate a woman. He was wrong. If you love a good karaoke/dive bar then Kajun's is the place. I recently paid a visit after a long time and it looks like they've made some changes. The bartender was hustling but helpful. I had a simple canned bev and my friend had a signature cocktail that was so tasty and refreshing. I was able to add my name to the list via the digital screen by the MC/DJ booth- there were some technical issues so I didn't show up on the list for a while. The place was packed by around 11:30pm my friend and I stayed until around midnight after I finally got on stage and screamed out "Chandler" by Sia. I've been wanting to do that one for a while lol. I don't want to say what all tired reviewers say - but if I could leave 0 stars, I would. As a tourist, I understand that it can be exhausting as an establishment to consistently have to cater to out of towners who may be a little rowdy and disrespectful. Most places on and around Frenchmen St had high covers and protocols in place to regulate the high traffic of tourists. That's understandable! Kajun's, however, which is a couple blocks down, was entirely different. After a night out, my family and I were desperate for karaoke, and made the trek to Kajun's based on location and general reviews. When we arrived, it wasn't very busy but there were people singing and at the bar, so we decided to stay, order some drinks, and put some songs in. We were standing at the edge of the bar, adjacent to the karaoke booth. Please note, there are no signs around the booth asking customers to be quiet, stand an exact distance away, etc. After ordering our drinks - during which the bartender told my uncle to "stop talking" after he was done ordering his drinks, which is another story - we were chatting and trying to enjoy the pretty terrible atmosphere. I am an experienced karaoke bar enjoyer and have never listened to more depressing songs being chosen, so we were making some silly jokes in our group circle. We weren't harassing anyone, booing the performers, or anything like that. Eventually, we were clapping and singing along to make it fun! All of a sudden, the KJ came out of the booth and was immediately confrontational and demanded that we move away from the booth. She told us we were the "loudest people" in the KARAOKE BAR, mind you, and that she couldn't hear anything over our "screaming". One of my group politely asked if we were not standing at the bar - because it our group was gathered at the end of it, not standing behind it or directly in front of her booth. After some back and forth, I was tired of arguing with her over nothing and told her "we're going to leave, thank you" to which she responded "you ain't welcome!" as if we had personally insulted her. I've never been approached at a bar this way in any establishment nor have I been essentially kicked out for talking and singing along in a karaoke bar/bar that has karaoke. Not sure if she thought she heard something and felt justified in her approach, but she never once warned us or asked us nicely to move away so she could hear. She came out already visibly upset and was hellbent on making us feel bad for something we had no idea about. So if you're looking for a fun bar to enjoy karaoke and a night out with your friends, avoid this place. read more

Used to love this place when it had video games and anime. Brought a group of 20+ people recently who purchased a mad amount of drinks at the bar and I got hassled for singing karaoke but not buying a drink myself. I get having a policy like that, but it's gonna cost them 20+ people not showing up the next two nights that I'm in New Orleans. Also, tried to buy a curtesy drink but there was no one even tending the bar. I gave the DJ $10 and walked out. At least they got their money, but me and my colleagues will not be back. read more

If you know me, you know that I am the queen of dive bars and karaoke. Never in my life did I think I'd find a place that is the perfect combination of these two things. When I was planning my trip to visit New Orleans and was told about this spot, I knew I had to get there for a night out. At around midnight on a Thursday, our first night in town, friends and I made our way over to Kajun's and put our names on the list right away. I appreciated how carefully our IDs and vaccination cards were inspected, not every bar we visited in New Orleans had the same attention to detail. It was super easy to figure out to process of getting on the list, there is a touch screen system to search for your song and add your name. I've been to many karaoke bars, and this system was by far the best I've seen. Very straightforward, huge library of songs and things moved quickly. We got up on stage to sing a few times. The energy at Kajun's was exactly what you need when you're singing karaoke in front of strangers. The bartenders were very friendly. I easily started a tab and closed out at the end of the night without waiting forever. Drinks were very reasonably priced, and I genuinely can't remember if they were strong or if I had just shown up on the more intoxicated side, but either way I had the time of my life. read more

This bar was once great. I used to stop in and bring my dog in for treats. The people behind the bar were very kind and liked my dog. I enjoyed spending 10 bucks a day there. Plus, any time I had friends in town, we would stop in for karaoke. I did my bachelor party there. Anyway, in November of 2023, my friend was coming to meet us for a drink. She had her expired California Driver's License, along with the paperwork that explained that her driver's license was on the way. That was not good enough for the ID checker who had come on duty since I had gone in. I came in and pointed out that she was obviously in her 30s, and he talked to me like I was not someone who had brought in a couple thousand dollars worth of business over the last year. So, I stopped going to this bar. I would have never weighed in, except that this person has evidently taken control of this bar. They have a sign posted up about how they are a jerk and enjoy being a jerk and will make up rules as they choose. I understanding having to card people, but if someone has an expired ID plus the paperwork to prove this is their ID, I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with that, other than that they don't want their place of business to make money. They also have something on the sign about making arbitrary rules. I am not a fan of being unfair for no reason. If you like Karaoke, there is Cat's Meow in the Quarter, and a number of other places that do Karaoke on other nights. So after months of my dog avoiding a longer walk due to hot weather, we walked in the evening and caught this pathetic sign. If you're a tourist, this place is no longer an authentic place to have fun in New Orleans. It's a place run by a very sad person who will never have more power than telling someone their ID is not good enough to go into a Karaoke bar. But they're a really sassy dictator about it! If you are going to go there, make sure you get there before like 8 or 9. Whenever this sad sack in the sign shows up. Incidentally, I think it is worth mentioning that I was in there a few months earlier, and a different bouncer (allegedly the wife of the owner) wouldn't let my wife in. She had forgotten her ID and did not have the LA Wallet App on her phone. The bouncer simply said, I'm sorry, we had a problem and we really can't let you in. My wife totally understood and just sent me a text. When I got out, the bartenders mentioned that I was a regular and clearly well over 21 (40). At that point she was willing to let my wife in, but I had just been grabbing a drink while she was running an errand. All of that is normal. Talking to people disrespectfully for no reason, and then celebrating that in a sign seems pretty silly to me. Anyway, maybe they are thriving on the tourist trade. I'm sad to say, I will not go back there unless they change ownership and their power-tripping bouncer. read more

my friends and I have gone to kajun's for years, often multiple times a month & always have a good time. but whatever male bartender was working on 1/11/25 was the rudest bully of a bartender I've ever interacted with. cannot wrap my head around how someone can talk to another person the way he did. my friend and I tried to order a drink right after walking in with a group, but he refused to serve us. when we asked him why, he got very aggressive and said he doesn't cater to entitled white girls. we had literally just walked in...we asked if we could order from another bartender, explaining that my mom recently passed away and we were just trying to have a drink and sing some childhood songs. he then started yelling inappropriate things about my mom being dead loudly enough that other people started staring and other employees came over to make him stop. we left after that -- was the worst experience I've ever had in a bar (and mildly traumatic!), especially considering the amount of money I've spent in Kajun's over the years. that said, thank you to the women who were also bartending -- they defused the situation well and I greatly appreciate it. read more

What a fun little dive. I must have passed this bar over a hundred times and never knew that it was here. A friend said that they had done karaoke here and my interest was piqued. We decided to end our night here and had an absolute blast. The night that we went there was live band karaoke which I'd never seen before, but rather enjoyed. We arrived while the band was still arriving/setting up and got to have a few drinks and check out the bar a bit before things got too crazy. It's cute inside and the bar is pretty well stocked (there were some pretty good name brands like Hendricks and Crown Royal). Our bartender was very kind, patient and helpful. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. They definitely had a little kick to them, but not at the expense of taste. I loved the patio off to the side that connects with the neighboring Italian restaurant. You could go over and order food, eat on the patio, and then hop back over to the bar. It got packed pretty quickly, but the vibe overall was friendly. Everyone was a good sport to those who performed. It was easy to sign up for a song and the band did a great job backing the performers. Super fun time. If you do go on a night where the band is there, remember to bring some cash to tip them! read more

If you want a place to get rowdy, people watch, and sing some karoake, this is your place. However if you wish to drink alcohol- go elsewhere! It's impossible getting drinks here! Last Saturday night they mostly had 1 bartender, briefly I saw a second one. Their whole "single file queue" for the bar doesnt work and the bartender still served people standing at the bar (while half a dozen of us waited in the queue.) The bar layout and bartender were so inefficient it was so frustrating. This bar could have easily made way more money from just my circle of friends alone if they had more bartenders who could handle a constant high volume of customers. Really really awesomeness... the drinks are delicious, the bartender is great, the dj (chubby white chick) is the perfect mixture of bipolar for a nightclub. She's rude, she's nice, & it seems like she doesn't mind having fun while working. Like I said, "the perfect mixture). I was standing next to the dj's booth "singing background " when the stage broke. Now the dj got & give me my shoe out the hole, but that was it. No apology from anyone. This place treats people disgustingly. The bouncers are ridiculously rude and we were asked for our passports for international ID. This is the only place in New Orleans I have been to that requires passports and the bouncer working tonight raised his voice and got aggressive with me. Absolutely not worth it and I am highly disturbed that they let their staff treat people like this. If you're looking for a good karaoke spot, go to the Domino down the street instead. I've been wanting to get to Kajun's Pub ever since I read about owner JoAnn in the book Nine Lives a few years ago. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is it's an incentive to get my ass back here some night for karaoke. Going in was actually more of an accident; we tried eating at Arabella but they were closed for a private event. I commented on Kajun's next door, and my friend said "Let's go." First off, it wasn't the down & dirty dive I expected. There was plenty of room between tables, it's very clean, and the bar is beautiful! Our bartender Corey was absolutely delightful, regaling us with lots of stories including how they used to slosh through water until the floor behind the bar was raised up in the remodel (it was pouring outside as he told us). The crowd was small on a Sunday afternoon, all local and very friendly. We didn't hang around for karaoke because we were hungry. I've always said there's not enough alcohol in New Orleans to get me drunk enough to sing karaoke...but, who knows? If I ever did, it would be here. read more

Please do see the pic I posted, but really it doesn't do justice. Best of all, there was a random drag queen bake sale going on & I scored an excellent apple pie. No I wasn't brave enough to sing myself...maybe next time. Being a native, St. Claude was the last place I expected to find such a great club, but it's an avenue that's turning around. Great local spot with drag karaoke on Sunday nights! Happy hour has great deals. Both of our bartenders were awesome, concocting random drinks for us! On Sundays they have a baked potato bar with all the fixings. You can bring your own meat to grill outside so you can have a meal for the game! It's like a college bar for people that aren't in college anymore. It's loud and it's crowded. It's got an outside area where you can "chill". They do karaoke, with a very reasonable restriction that should be adopted by everyone: no repeats! Yes, you finally don't need to be subjected to death-by-don't-stop-believin'! Lines for the bar are long, but the bartenders are dialed! This would probably be a good place to bring cash to, even though they are not cash-only. read more

Honest one star review. We live in the neighborhood. We've celebrated my wife's bday at Kajun's in 2018 & 2019. We were very excited to be back in 2022. The place looks great - remodeled, clean bathrooms and our group even knew the bartender from her previous job. Within 30 minutes one person in our group had a disagreement with the KJ and was asked to leave. I've never seen him get kicked out of a bar before but these things happen. It was very aggressive - grabbing his arm and spilling his beer as he said goodbye to our group. 10 minutes later I see one of our friends walking up. She gets ID'd at the door, shows her ID and never says a word. As she starts to walk into the bar, she's grabbed by the door lady and told she had an attitude and can't come in. I watched this first hand and it made zero sense. Our group of about 12 (only people at the bar) closed out and left. The bartender was embarrassed and apologizing (which she didn't need to - she was great). Up until now I would have given this place 5 stars (even without the renovations). But the DJ and door person were on a power trip. I'm sad at what this place has become. If you're a tourist, be careful. They treat people who live here terribly so I can't imagine being a tourist there. RIP old Kajun's - you will be missed. read more

I'm not surprised they have 3 stars. So my girlfriend and I went out for a night to sing and enjoy drinks. Things were fine, bartender was cool, regular safety protocols that everyone in the city has, etc.. My girlfriend is very shy and doesn't have an easy time getting up on stage. But she did a couple of times. And on her last one, her face covering slipped off twice while singing. Imagine that. Being in the moment of karaoke and your face covering slips off. She was killing it, and everyone was rocking out. The absolutely obtuse karaoke DJ interrupts her mid song says "keep it up or Im going to have to stop your song." Now, what this petty power trip did for this DJ is unknown (imagine that's the only thing in life you can control) and it completely killed the vibe afterwards. I wish she had dropped the mic to leave at that moment but as the wonderful person she is, she carried on. Had that been me, I would've immediately left. But she continued and finished the song, in the awkwardness that everyone felt . Thank you horrendous DJ, for letting me know what a truly terribly host you are and what a garbage establishment this is. I've decided I will never spend my money or time here again. From one local to another, you SUCK. And your tired cliches of "Yass Queen!" to everyone who bothers to sing in your presence are going to age you soon. Don't come here. Or rather, if you're a tourist from texas, PLEASE come here. This is your place and they love hearing Tennessee whiskey on repeat. By the way; you could've easily disinfected the microphone and talked to my gf privately about the face covering slipping off (which she was pulling ). We stopped in after the Krewe du Vieux parade for a drink. It was packed but I spotted one open seat at the bar. We went to order our drinks and it went downhill from there. The bartender (tall brunette) was in super bitch mode. I even overheard her telling someone how she enjoys being rude to people and its a power trip. I guess if you are a genuinely miserable person,bartending would be your choice of occupation since I cant really think of any place besides bars where telling people to leave whenever you feel like it is ok. The entire night I had to hear her being straight up rude to everyone. There was a group from Texas there that night and I was embarrassed to think this was their New Orleans experience. At one point, I apologized for the bartenders behavior to one of the Texans that walked up to order 3 drinks and the bartender agressively argued with her that she only ordered 2. I told her dont take it personal the bartender was being a bitch to everyone that night and the mini man of bar manager(I guess) pounced so quick to defend her that it was apparent he was used to it. I dont know what her problem was that night but I hope it was an isolated incident. Our group certainly wont be returning.
