This is a cute little breakfast place. Not much seating inside, so plan to take yours to-go. I was impressed with the creativity of the doughnuts, and the kolaches are huge... but although the atmosphere is cute and trendy, I still prefer Shipley Do-nuts. I'll admit I have not tried all their flavors of doughnuts, but their plain was a little too sweet... too much glaze... and the chocolate sprinkle hardly had any sprinkles (I'm a fan of lots of sprinkles!) and the dough had a strong flavor, but I prefer something more simple or mild. I'm definitely going to give them another shot, and their breakfast tacos looked good, too... but since Shipley has a better tasting doughnut, more seating, a drive-thru, and is cheaper... Kai's Donuts are always tasty, the store is clean and sanitary, and the staff are phenomenal! They certainly know how to run a business, with must-try unique donuts and kolaches (if you haven't tried the Philly Cheesesteak kolache, you're doing it wrong) and impeccable customer service. Prices are perfect, and they even throw in a few donut holes with your order as a pleasantly surprising little bonus (though now you won't be surprised). Stopped by the other morning to get donuts for co-workers. I had the sausage/cheddar and the jalapeno kolaches. Kolaches were very good. I got a dozen assorted donuts for the team and from what I heard, they were great! I was asked today why I did not go get more today. I work in Allen Farm, not exactly a short drive. For my trouble, the clerk (manager?) gave me an apple fritter. WOW! It was worth the drive alone. The co-worker that had the s'more donut raved about it. Can't wait to go back! The first time I came here, I knew I was hooked. The doughnut dough was so soft and tasty. I love their cinnamon sugar doughnut and jalapeno Kolach the most. They also have iced cafe du monde. The people there are always super friendly. I guess for me these together make my day. The second time I came, I took my friend with me. She said this is the only doughnut place in town that she approves. She does not think doughnut is a legitimate breakfast btw. If you love doughnut, this is the place to go. read more

AMAZING customer service! Staff was super friendly and the man that took care of us made it soo much fun for my 3 year old to pick out the "perfect" donut (worth the trip and 5 stars in itself). It was neither good nor bad. Service was a bit rushed and not very talkative. The doughnuts on the outside look creative and delicious, but after trying them it taste like any other ordinary doughnut. Not really a wow factor in regards to flavor. I mean anyone can just plop an oreo on a doughnut and call it special. I guess I was expecting a bit more creativity when it came to unique taste because when it comes down to it there should be a HUGE taste difference between doughnuts you buy here and ones you get from HEB. Not saying they are bad, just didnt meet my expectations. The Kolaches were great though. Tasted fresh and well made. Doughnuts I will have to take a pass on. Best bacon egg and cheese croissant in town, period. My only complaint is that when there's a line of 19 year olds willing to wait 30 minutes for a doughnut (what is wrong with people?) they understandably have to close the drive through, so since I'm grabbing breakfast on the way to work I wind up having to go somewhere else to give someone else more money for a worse breakfast. Once drove to Austin just for Voodoo Doughnuts then recently found out that we have something similar here in College Station! No long drives needed for gourmet doughnuts! I'm really picky about my donuts and these are the best I've had in years! I got a chocolate cream filled. The donut was cooked through, the cream filling was just right (creamy, not too sweet), and they had a lovely layer of chocolate on top (not too thick or thin - just right). The outside had a nice, crispiness, but the inside, soft as a cloud. We've been back 3 times in the past couple weeks and tried the strawberry filled, old fashioned, and donut holes. I went to Kai's the other day after hearing about from so many friends. Kai's is known for their unique take on donuts. When I went in ordered a red velvet cake donut and took a pepper jack kolache to-go. My friend ordered a blue berry cake donut and a sprinkle donut. With every order, the staff throws in a few donut holes, which is a nice touch. While I enjoyed my donut and the donut holes, I thought it could have been warm. I didn't like the kolache at all. The one I got was a different style of meat rather than a traditional sausage. Next time I go, I will definitely ask for it to be warmed up. Forget Shipley's. These are probably some of the best doughnuts I have ever had. We tried the red velvet, fruity pebbles, and a filled doughnut with Nutella. The red velvet is a cake doughnut. It had a great flavor with just the right amount of icing. The fruity pebbles is your traditional doughnut with some glaze/frosting with fruity pebbles. The doughnut itself was amazing. It didn't feel heavy or greasy like doughnuts from other places. The fruity pebbles, though fun, don't quite fit. They just are not crunchy enough so the texture is off. The Nutella was my favorite. Still a fan and the donuts are still good, but the quality has gone down slightly in the past couple months. Just sometimes the donuts taste a little stale and not as moist as I expect, and also the variety seems to have become more limited. Prices have gone up a few cents: nothing too significant but worth noting. I still visit the shop once in a while since I am located nearby. read more

I highly recommend the maple bacon donuts. The only draw back is the line and they sell out of their very yummy donuts.
