Kaieteur Kitchen was one of the vendors displaced by the recent construction at Elephant & Castle, and is now located in the new Castle Square complex just north of there, on the upper level. The food is spectacular. Faye Gomes and her staff are serving up incredibly delicious Guyanese cuisine in a homey atmosphere - it feels like she's inviting you into an extension of her home. She welcomed us with a glass of her fiery homemade ginger beer. We ordered the fish curry, made with filets of a robust, delicious fish whose name I forget (I remember she said it was in the red snapper family), cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside, moist and flaky inside, in a gorgeous sauce with some heat to it. Seriously, a perfect dish. She also cooks a large variety of meat dishes including the famous Guyanese dish Pepper Pot, plus lots of veg options. We especially loved her aubergine in coconut sauce - her own recipe - and the luscious pumpkin. Some rice and beans to balance the heat, sweet plantains and roti rounded the meal out perfectly. We went in the mid-afternoon, and it wasn't crowded at all, but it sounds like in the evenings and especially on weekends there can be a long wait for tables. Definitely worth a visit! They also do take-away, and wedding and event catering. read more
