I have been here several times because I have a friend that enjoys it. Fine. As someone that only drinks decaffeinated beverages, I am SICK of being screwed by coffee shops that don't just brew a pot of decafe. This whole Americano pour over is a joke. They charge you twice what they should for a cup of what is usually unpleasant coffee. When you go to a COFFEE shop you shouldn't be thinking "Duncan Donuts and WaWa do better coffee". Well for decafe, Kahwa is a waste of time and money. But so is very coffee shop in Sarasota that doesn't respect decaffeinated coffee drinkers and gouges with these crap pour over beverages. The staff is friendly enough and you can almost always find a seat, be it inside or out. I will still go there once in a while as my friend likes it and deserves to be happy in their coffee choice. I will just continue to drink what they have and deal with it; but it will never be my go to coffee place. read more

If you're in Lakewood Ranch and looking for a good cup of dark roast coffee, Kahwa Coffee is a worthwhile spot to check out. The shop has plenty of free, off-street parking. There's a small seating area with tables and umbrellas outside, which is perfect for enjoying your coffee. Today I ordered a cappuccino, and since I wasn't in a hurry, I was able to have it served in a ceramic cup rather than paper, always a nice touch. Stunning Florida weather today, so I enjoyed drinking my coffee on the patio. The baristas do a good job here plus Kahwa automates much of the espresso extraction process. My cappuccino was properly balanced with just the right mix of espresso, steamed milk, and foam. The milk was heated and spun to a perfect texture, and the barista even added a little design on top. Overall, this is a comfortable place to relax with a good cup of coffee, this Kahwa location is worth a visit. read more

We had been to Kahwa at another location in the Tampa area so decided to try this one. Were able to order online quickly and easily and it was ready for pick up when I arrived about 10 minutes later. I got an iced almond milk FPSL which was not bad. My husband got a regular skim latte and it was one of the best lattes I've ever had. read more

What's good? The people who work there, the coffee they sell, the atmosphere. They are so friendly and helpful (asking questions to determine what I want and giving suggestions - even offering a taste of a coffee) and patient and they seem to know everyone who comes in. I came pretty close to giving this place five stars. We came here three mornings in a row. Each time, we got an iced Chai latte and an iced latte with oatmilk. Each time, our drinks were different. One morning the Chai was foamed, another time not. Another time the milk in the Chai was a little sour. The coffees were very good each time, even though the strength varied *tremendously.* On the last morning, while we were on our way out, we heard the barista making a snarky comment about people who order chai. Okay, so screw 'em. We leave very generous tips -- as people who know the service industry well enough to appreciate the work. But we don't need to be the target of some barista's insecurities about her role in the world. Maybe that particular barista can put her tip money toward some therapy to process that shit. We met some of our friends at Kahwa before going to the farmer's market. My hubs and I arrived first and sat at one of three empty tables out front. We figured we would wait for our friends to park so we could get our coffee together however sitting about 1 minute, a lady came out and quite curtly told us the tables were for customers only. I was a little taken aback but okay, we can order now...smh. I got an iced mocha and chocolate croissant and both were good. So my parents have been, accidentally/weirdly/tragically/DRAMATICALLY (it's a long and ongoing story...which, speaking for myself, has been EXHAUSTING!) renting an apartment on the same block as Kawha Coffee in downtown Sarasota (apparently there are more Kawha locations, but I'm not from here and this review ONLY pertains to the Kawha on 2d Street in Sarasota). Mom and I had gone to Pecky Interiors on the other end of the block to browse all the tchotchkes. Dad was waiting of us at Kawha, since we declared that t his was the day they were finally going to try the coffee shop on their own street. Full Disclosure: My parents are strong Starbucks patrons. There is not a single beverage that I want from a Starbucks anywhere. So there's that. My Go To coffee beverage is a hot Mocha Latte. I want my coffee strong, with enough espresso and with some chocolate for flavor. But I do NOT want it sweet and a Mocha shouldn't be sweet, if it's made correctly. Not only is a Mocha DELICIOUS, it is the perfect "test beverage" for a coffee shop. Most places fail at making a good Mocha Latte. Long story short: I'm planning to get a Cafe Mocha at Kawha once we're done buying all the scented tchotchkes Pecky Interiors has in stock. Mom and I walk over. Dad is at a table outside on the sidewalk drinking his beverage. Mom: "Do they have a tonic water? A 7-UP? A Sprite??" Dad: "No. This is a coffee shop!" Me: "I'll get you a drink!" I go inside. It was late afternoon, close to 5pm. Which might explain why the chairs were all up on the tables. So I was unsure whether they were open. They were. Also, it's pretty dark inside. Which isn't for me, but might very well be for you if you live in a "tropical" type state. I'm looking at the cold beverage menu trying to pick something that Mom might like. She only ever drinks decaf anything. So that kind of narrows the choices... I see the "Flybiscus Tea." Sounds perfect! I order a small. (The choices are 16oz or 20oz). And I grab a bottle of Perrier as a back up. My barrista is a young guy, we're chatting. (I failed to get his name.) But he's been here since 7am (sounds about right for The Industry...I've spent MANY years in it) and while he's pretty SUPER perky, he's also clearly kinda fried. LOL I order a Mocha. He tells me they're out of chocolate. All they have is white chocolate. Let's all get on the same page about the fact that white chocolate is NOT chocolate. I order a matcha latte, 16 oz and ask for an extra shot of espresso. My barrista tells me there isn't actually any espresso in a matcha latte. Who knew?? That seems wrong! I add TWO shots of espresso. He starts with the cold drink, The Flybiscus and says to me, "I"m upgrading you to 20oz because I can't use half a Red Bull this late in the day." I look up from my phone. He's like crushing a can of Red Bull to get every last drop into the Flybiscus Tea. Me: "Uhhhhh, what goes into a Flybiscus Tea??" APPARENTLY it's Hibiscus Tea and a WHOLE LOT of Red Bull. I realize I have made an error. Now, friends. My mother is an older Lady (I cannot reveal her actual age here, but I don't want to die). I consider just lying to her about what's in a Flybiscus Tea. But again. I don't want my mother to kill me. Mom has mellowed a bit the past few years. But the word I think best describes her personality is RELENTLESS. (That's where I get it from.) She does NOT need a Red Bull. I casually glance back at the menu board. As if I was always going to order 3 drinks. I ask what's in a Pink Fizz. As I said, my Barrista is kinda fried, he knows there's Coconut Milk in it. No coffee. I order that. (It's actually Raspberry syrup, Coconut Milk, Club Soda, Berry "inclusions"). Mom really liked it. Turns out I LOVE a Matcha Latte with 2 shots of espresso! So much so that we went back the next day and I got another for the walk over to our next shopping destination (Sarasota has All The Things in easy walking distance right downtown! Too bad it's in a fascist state...). EXCELLENT beverages! EXCELLENT service! Dad poured out that Flybiscus Tea on the shrubs out front. So probably they don't have any living shrubs out front now. I'm not a huge fan of Kahwa coffee. It has nothing to do with this particular location, but I just think there is better coffee in the region. I've always felt this whether I've gone to one of the locations near me in Saint Pete, or this one in Sarasota. It's fine in a pinch and certainly better then Starbucks, but otherwise, I'd usually go somewhere else. That doesn't sound like a 4 star review beginning. I'll try to lighten the mood. I was here because my regular coffee shop in downtown SRQ was packed and I needed room to work. I sat here for about 5 hours during which time I had two large coffees with oat milk and a shot of espresso. The coffee was better then usual. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of their dark roast and I enjoyed it much more then I usually enjoy my Kahwa coffees. Service was very good. The barista was exceptionally friendly and attentive and quick. However, i got charged for a cafe au lait with oat milk and a shot. That seems pricey for a coffee with a splash of oat and a shot of espresso. I would have thought a drip coffee plus the espresso and oat milk would have been cheaper, but then again, maybe not. I didn't compare prices on the menu. It's a good location-a couple blocks off Main Street so maybe not as crowded as some other SRQ shops. However, it's also very dark. I know there's not much you can do about facing south and being surrounded by high rises, so that there's almost no chance of getting any natural light. But it is dark and a bit depressing. The WiFi, however, works great and I noticed a fair number of outlets. Some outdoor seating is available and some food, though I didn't eat anything. Local art work is on display on the walls and available for purchase. So, probably the best Kahwa coffee I've had to date, a good work environment, friendly service, though possibly overcharged (but maybe not) and not exactly a bright cheerful atmosphere. read more

My wife and I visited this coffee shop this morning for the first time (we're visiting Sarasota from Colorado). The location is conveniently and centrally located in beautiful downtown Sarasota, parking is limited and a bit challenging, the outside of the cafe is nicely decorated and the inside is rather simply decorated, relaxing music was playing in the dining room, the floor is concrete but clean, the employees were very friendly and efficient, they have many coffee and tea choices, some delicious bakery items, a breakfast croissant, my medium roast coffee was delicious, there was a variety of seating inside and outside near the street, and they're free WiFi worked fairly well. read more

Rich, creamy, smooth and mellow...not sour like some left-coast roaster's. Beyond coffee, Kahwa offers limited pastries and teas. I tried their croissant that was imported from France and baked on site. It was good enough that I ate ALL of it. +. Price is about average for the area ++. Service is prompt and friendly. Awesome coffee, and a nice little bite too! On our entire trip this was one of the only places requiring masks during the pandemic. Applaud them for sticking to their guns and requiring every customer is wearing a mask! Came in on our last day in town. After looking at the menu we ended up sharing two items: Egg, cheese, tomato croissant and and Almond croissant. The breakfast croissant was excellent. Pretty large. The almond croissant stole the show. It was a delight. Not overly sweet as some almond croissants tend to be. Perfect. Iced latte - for a small with three shots. Less milk to espresso ratio this way and it was perfect. The robust espresso really shines here! They are making amazing coffee up in Tampa and bringing it down to this shop! Stopped here for a quick coffee after a walk. Terrific location near Whole Foods, nice small space if you want to hang out. I am a decaf drinker, so as usual selections seem limited, I chose a cold brew coffee and added a bit of cream and artificial sweetener, delicious. Gulped it down. My spouse and daughter made their choices and for whatever reason theirs did not taste good, watery and off. When we arrived we walked right up to the counter and ordered, but by they time our drinks were served there was a line, so we didn't bother to return and ask for a re-do. This place had been a favorite for spouse, but after this visit she said no more her favorite. I suppose we'll be back another time maybe. We are snowbirds and come to Sarasota every February and March. One of our favorite things to do is walk the streets of downtown Sarasota with our dog. We enjoy stopping at local coffee shops for a large iced latte and we tried Kahwa several times. The last time we stopped was March 2 and we were not happy. We ordered 2 large iced lattes and walked down the street with them. My wife had a decaf latte which she called really bitter. Mine was a regular iced latte that was also bitter but I said it also had a chalky texture. If we wouldn't have walked away we would have returned them to the store. $12.95 for 2 awful lattes from a coffee shop not acceptable. read more

Stopped here for coffee 11/8/21. The barista was a super nice guy and very friendly, the mochas we had were fairly good, though maybe not as good as the ones from Starbucks. Was disappointed because they advertised in a huge display peppermint mocha and other holiday flavors had arrived and much to our dismay, it wasn't true. He said they didn't have those flavors and didn't know when they would. Mocha was a backup. Also the menu is all digital on a screen display, there is no paper menu or billboard menu and someone had hacked their display or something, so we had no idea what options they had besides just asking him basically, well.... what flavors do you have? Was ok, but nothing special. I usually try to root for the little guy, but this wasn't as good as a Starbucks honestly. read more

Cute spot to grab a cup of coffee with friends or to chill out on your own. I really enjoy stopping here as a pit stop while walking my dog,l downtown. They are dog friendly and even have a communal dog bowl outside for woofs to use on hot summer days. Customer service is A+. The baristas are always super friendly and fast with the coffee orders. I also love that they have an app you can scan to pay for your order...makes it convenient...especially when you don't bring your wallet while walking your dog. This place is intimate and sweet and fairly quiet. A lot of people come in there but people pretty much on one another. I've seen people working on their big real estate deals done people on computers and people just enjoying the coffee. There's outside seating and plenty of tables inside although the place is really small. It's like an old fashion Coffee House Sa you're really good good service at reasonable prices.
