See LOW RATED YELLOW STARS, don't be too quick to make a judgment call and decide not to go…read more Sometimes it's best to check it out for yourself than to assume it won't meet your expectations. This is exactly what happened to me! As we turned the corner bend, "Whoaaaaa this park is spacious and the playground is colorful"! Need to say both me and my son was super excited to check it out! 1) This is Park has its own lot. No need to worry about Parking on the street like most. There are ample parking. 2) Restroom is not your typical Park Restroom! From the outside is a small building on the right side of the playground. The Women's Restroom is very clean inside with 2 stalls (1 small / 1 large) and the best part it has *Baby Changing Station*, *Seat Covers* & *Soap Dispenser*! If you need to bring your baby in a stroller, no need to worry about getting the wheels dirty and wet. 3) Can't say enough how the colors really brightens the mood and has my son excited to play! It's safe for ages 3+ and with a fun challenge in the middle to get their mind stimulated. 4) Here's a fun twist, on the left side there's a Fitness Equipment Area. It's super convenient to incorporate a quick workout while your keiki play at the playground (of course, if they're old enough to play without assistance). Either way, there's playing space for both parents and keiki! 5) If you're an Ohana with a Family Dog, there's also a fenced off Doggy Area to the far left! I haven't been inside, but from the outside it looks quite roomy for the doggies to run around. 6) Alongside with the great variety of choices, there's a large field of grass! Perfect space to have practices, large groups to workout, let the keiki run around loose, and even kite flying! As large as this park is, you may want to bring an umbrella or baby tent for shade as there's not really anywhere to relax other than a tree in the back or near the restrooms. Upside, there's 3 tables if you want to kau kau as well! Hoalauna Community Park hits all the aspects you'd want for everyone! Let me tell you, it's a "ONE STOP SHOP"!

What more can you ask for in a community park?…read more Hoalauna provides something for everyone in your family, no matter their age! Your fur babies, too! 2 dog parks, multiple exercise equipments, playground for your little ones, picnic tables for you parents and kupuna's, an entire 30+ space parking lot, CLEAN restrooms; need I say more? There is also a ginormous grassy area that can be great to let your little ones one freely without getting too close to the road. One downside to the park; there isn't much shade. Aside from the minimal tree shade, and the shade from the umbrella partially covering the playground, there's not much to work with. Fixable by bringing your own umbrella (: We love this park! Mahalo to the previous yelper who mentioned that they allow parties here (with a permit). I'll definitely be looking into that for future events!

Guess this isn't so secret anymore :-)…read more Very safe and peaceful lagoon to snorkel in with lots of fish and an occasional sea turtle or seal sighting. Parking is tough here as the only official parking lot is small. Thankfully we were staying close by and was able to walk here. The lagoon has lots of tropical fish and is fairly shallow where you can stand in most of the spots. Decent amount of beach sand area to lay out your towels and catch some sun.

Prior to walking over from the Marriott I did my homework on social media regarding the route. Many said the lagoon was nestled between Disney Aulani and the Four Seasons. Wrong. It's actually between the Lanikuhonua Institute and Paradise Cove Luau. We were walking along the public promenade adjacent to the public access lagoons. Came to a dead end by the Four Seasons resort property. I asked a stranger was he looking for the Secret Beach. It turned out he's a local. He gave me very good directions. That's how we found the Secret Beach. Once we were there we saw two Hawaiian monk seals beached. With a sign posted - keep 10 foot distance. As for turtles I spotted one in the lagoon swimming. It didn't come ashore. This was about 10:30am. There were plenty of folks in the water. So maybe we were the only ones who were challenged in locating the beach. If it weren't for the seals I thought the beach wasn't as enticing as the the area by the resorts. This is a very small footprint. Here there's no public restrooms. And for trash receptacles there are three heavy duty plastic trash bags taped to the the metal chain fence near the beach entrance. Interested in going? If you're on foot coming from the Marriott - walk on Ali'i Nui Dr past the Aulani entrance driveway and the four way street signal lights. Keep walking on the main drag until you see a small parking lot on the left. Make a left and head up to the parking lot. Walk toward Paradise Cove Luau. You'll see a very small entrance. Walk through the entrance and voila. You've arrived.

Now that I have more time on my hands, I will TRY to write a review everyday. Maybe in hopes to refine my writing skills, too. Lol. Anyways, I thought I'd write about the Makakilo park today. I don't visit often, but it's nice to relax and enjoy good food and company. I used to like the feel at the Kapolei park next to the rec center, but this park is nice as well. One thing I like about it is that there aren't that much people, if you're planning to go in the afternoon to evening time. That being said, you can bring your whole family, friends, and pets to enjoy the whole park to yourselves. Some features of the park: ~Basketball courts, a volleyball court, and tennis courts in the area. There are also nearby restrooms too. However, no seat covers, but there are doors for your privacy. ~Exercise equipment for early bird or late night owl work out. I would really very much appreciate it if these equipment were within walking distance of my house, so Makakilo residents that live nearby the park have a real treat. Monkey bars, climbing ladder, and sit-ups may be done on these equipment and instructions are posted too! ~Playground for the kiddies ~Water faucet for easily accessible water if need be ~Excellent for large gatherings. Just be sure to bring own tables and chairs as these are not at the park ~Wide courts for riding unicycles, bicycles, and scooters! ~Small parking lot, but adequate if carpooling Nonetheless, a nice park for recreation and exercise. There's that added breeze since this park is atop Makakilo. :-)
