No- I don't have a business. I don't own a business. My dad had a family hobby business for us 25 years ago but stopped. I am an educator by trade and education. If you are going to look for doing business though here in Hawaii- looking in research books at the University of Hawaii is no longer the only option for you. The Manoa Innovation Center seems to have gotten some seed grant money to make a space available for those that are looking to becoming big big big entrepreneurs. DevLeague seems to have a large enough space for tech students to go a non-traditional schooling route to bypass a university degree and go straight into coding. I found this Manoa Innovation Center because they held a Hackathon. Some very helpful people have suggested that I step out of my comfort zone and join different events to talk to people outside of my expertise. So go to a Hackathon. Manoa Innovation Center seems to be doing well in the new area of 'shared space.' There are a few of these different kind of spaces popping up like Box Jelly, ProtoHub, or Agora. Manoa Innovation Center is more on the tech side - think more coding/ 3d printing/ tech space instead of open floor space. People there are smart in their fields. I am glad I went to my first event - out of the box has a whole new meaning for me now- and I'm a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer - been around the world and I thought I had seem most of it all.

The parking is good and it can be supplemented by the parking on the street. Manoa Innovation center is also a good place to hold lectures and discussions. They have conference rooms and I have attended some business meetings on the ground floor. There is a shopping mall within walking distance. So it's very convenient to get food, coffee, or shop at the Safeway. If you are looking for an office, consider this office building.

Of course, I had to take a look. Luckily, I had parked in a metered street stall that had a broken meter... yay! Free street parking! LOL! I had a chance to explore four of the current businesses in the Okumura Building: Downstairs: 1. Calico Cat - fabulous fabrics and patterns 2. Every Day Better by Green Meadows - cute stuff and eco-friendly merchandise Upstairs: 3. Pitacus Chop Art - paper and fabric crafts and clothing 4. Kimono Megumi - handmade bags, jewelry, and clothes Other businesses (uptairs) include: South Paw Studios Mottainai Hawaii atelier 1223 at Montsuki These are woman-owned, small, local businesses that have unique products! From the exterior it may not seem much but it houses so much artsy crafty and unusual finds like Pitacus, Every day better, Calico Cat, and Mottainai and a few more that I've never been to but what makes them so special are their "Pop Ups" the last was in May for Mother's Day (April 30th) and I walked away with so much including my own precious BunBun!! Today's event (June 25th 2023) was slightly smaller than the usual but still has many wonderful artists and yes I sure found something that not only is eco friendly but a beautiful work of art. Knowing it helps by having donation to Lanakila Meals on Wheels how can you not feel great! They seem to have a brand new Instagram account @okumurabldgcreatives so I think it's fitting to have a Yelp page as well to support our small local biz and some artist that do some amazing items. Thank you!

Since I am a software engineer, having an extra monitor is essential and Hub Coworking Hawaii was the only coworking space that provided monitors (and cables! Didn't need to bring my own). The workspace is clean and located next to Mitsuwa. They thoughtfully provided all the essentials and more, such as a selection of coffee, tea, water, ice, office supplies, pads for women in the bathroom, standing desks, a variety of monitor cables, COVID tests, etc. Basically everything I needed was within the space, similar to my actual office in Seattle. The only thing that stood out was, they played light music the whole day, which is fine. It is just a heads up for anyone who's sensitive to sound to bring your noise cancelling headphones. I would definitely return if I ever needed a coworking space around Waikiki again. My 2 day membership was $40/month with the option to add more days.

And, Nam, special thank you to you for answering my late evening Sunday emails!

Being able to make my own hours and choose where I want to work from is great but there are times when I miss having an actual "office." No water cooler discussions, no best "work" friends, no office gossip, no paper airplane contests. I recently discovered Resource Suites and it's now my "office" when I feel like pretending I have a 9 to 5 job. Located on the third floor of the Landmark Waikiki building, Resource Suites is a hybrid office built for entrepreneurs, start-ups and people like me who work in their pajamas. You can rent a furnished office space or just work out of the general work space and get your mail sent there. No more PO Box for me! I usually set-up in the cubicle side with my laptop and get an amazing amount of work done during the days that I choose to be there. The problem sometimes with working out of your home is that you often have the distractions of your personal life around you such as laundry, dishes, TV, random food, etc. When you work out of a virtual office such as this you can just concentrate on the tasks at hand. The office is pretty swanky, air conditioned and has a very professional appearance. There's a receptionist to greet anyone who comes to have a meeting with you and a conference room is available as well. They've got everything you need to run your business (printers, binding machines, Wi-Fi) and you can even hire in-house secretarial help. I'm going to get all my Yelp packages sent there because I am tired of missing the UPS/FedEx guy and being forced to drive out to the airport! I think that Resource Suites represents how technology is changing where and how we work. No longer do you have to be chained to a desk but if you choose to do it for productivity's sake then this is a place for you!

They provide a professional environment with a reception area, day offices, co-working space and conference rooms. It is a perfect office for individuals who are starting their own business. I look forward to hosting business meetings with clients in the future at Resource Suites.
