All "kidding" aside, stop in and you'll want absolutely everything in the shop. I mean all of it...even sweet Megi--the queen bee who taught me a thing or two about beeswax candles. Did you know that burning 100% pure beeswax candles can purify the air quality and allergens in your house? Though I was in the store yesterday, I couldn't get myself to write a review until I had the chance to try some of the beyond amazing soap samples I received from Megi. I smell so good, and my skin feels pure and soft. I now understand the value of using quality products. Their specialty handmade soap is a goat milk and honey soap. Not only is the bar they make so pretty and artistic to look at, it smells so good you'll want to eat it. Their products are small batch, and I think Megi told me some of the soaps take six weeks to cure, but don't quote me on that. They also carry Savon De Marseille soap from France. Apparently you won't find this soap anywhere in the area. If you've passed by this shop a million times and always wanted to stop in, just do it. There is parking out front or across the street, and after you pick up some soap you can head up the street for a cup of coffee at Arriva Dolce. It's totally worth it. Whether you need a gift or want a personal scrub soap for yourself, you can find it here. I had no idea Larrabee Herbs existed until I found it via Google Maps. I wondered about parking prior to visiting, as the storefront sits along W North Ave, but it ended up not being an issue. There is a small parking lot right outside the building on N 76th Ct, with a decent number of spots for the number of customers they get. Keep in mind that parking is also available along W North Ave if those spots are ever filled. After entering, I immediately started looking for the products I needed while an employee helped another customer at the register. Once he finished, he immediately asked me if I needed any assistance, and of course, I took him up on it. The employee was very informative about which products were available, as well as when the items I was looking for would arrive, as they were in high demand. All the items were displayed in alphabetical order, making it easy to find what I needed. I ended up purchasing 1-ounce bags of kola nut, licorice root, black walnut leaf, and cloves, since my original target products were not available. I really loved everything I discovered about what I purchased. All of them have wonderful results in combating bacteria in the stomach, and I hope to incorporate a few of them regularly into my dietary routine. As for kola nuts, I learned that they are caffeine-rich seeds from the African cola tree that are used to boost energy, enhance metabolism, and aid digestion. Containing around 2% caffeine, they act as a central nervous system stimulant, reducing fatigue and boosting mental alertness. Licorice root helps eradicate bacteria, especially alongside medical treatments. It inhibits bacterial growth, soothes inflamed tissues, and boosts protective stomach mucus. Other benefits include contributing to healthy skin and relieving colds and coughs. Black walnut contains compounds--particularly juglone in the hulls--that exhibit antibacterial, antiviral, and antiparasitic properties. Out of all the herbs I found, the cloves made me smile because they do wonders for the body that I had no idea about. Other stores along Devon I have less confidence;(odor/cleanliness) Farm City has been hands down zero-issues with quality or freshness. Never smelled 'off' in the place either. I think the only negative my Ma has about the cuts are that they aren't as specific as they once were. Not as much attention given to the sizes, I assume they cut it a general way to stay quick with service. There is a grocery store attached which I've hardly ever been in. On occasion when lamb is on the menu, I'll pick up a few pounds here and also purchase something random from the freezer cases. When it comes to lamb you want good stuff. Chain groceries just do not carry good selections. Whole foods has some tasty stuff but.. yes, it is pricey. When your having folks over that don't care whether its GMO meat.. well, the pricing here is great.

The butcher YaYa is excellent and ground my chicken breast fresh and also packed it very nice so I didn't have to re-package it at home before freezing it. I went to several other butchers who wouldn't pack the meat how I asked but YaYa without any hesitation agreed to do the job. They have a great selection of spices and also several ethnic breads made fresh locally that you can't find at your regular grocery store. Prices are similiar to other butchers and they do have weekly sales.

They have a lot of cheap specials. Fairly obvious this is a pretty international area. It's located on Devon at Artesian amongst the Indian markets and restaurants. It feels like a place to shop if you want to virtue signal. I wanted to look into more sustainable options and decrease the amount of plastic I consume via containers. I had gotten a few things (bar shampoo, toothpaste pellets, etc) online at the Zero Waste store, but prefer to keep it local whenever I can. When I heard about E.F. I decided to check it out, but was surprised at the prices, which are astronomical for what you get. I expected bulk pricing and BYO containers to result in better pricing, but was mistaken. In spite of the cost, I gave a couple products a try thinking perhaps the quality would be superior quality, and walked away with a small lotion stick that was $20 and has a weird smell, and some bulk lotion (orange blossom, I think) that smells good but wasn't very moisturizing and cost $13 for maybe about a cup worth. According to my kitchen scale, about 5 oz. Only a select few people are going to be able to lotion up through a Chicago winter for $2 an ounce when you could double the amount with a store brand. Good on you if you can extract some wealth from the people who have too much, but this is just not a store for everyone. I found some other small businesses and switched to bar soap and lotion to avoid buying more plastic, and there are a couple online options for cleaning products and such.
