A rough gem can sometimes hide something special, and Kabob's was surprisingly good food despite the fact that the exterior definitely takes you back to a hole in a wall from the 80s. Now most people would do takeout here. Not me, I would come to see this place myself. The decor and the location do look kinda bad not going to lie, but this is a review about the FOOD, not the ambience. So if that scares you away skip this. So the food was absolutely delicious. Made to order and they took quite a bit of time (20-30 minutes) but I requested that they bring everything all out at once. Ordered the goat curry (Sorry, I can't remember the name of it) and the Veggie Samosas. Also added the garlic naan and chai. So the chai was sweet and surprisingly good. A nice hot drink to pass the time. The samosas were splendid, they came out crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside with a mild dipping sauce. And the goat curry was delicious. Aromatic and filling, it had a mild spice level (for my Asian palette, note it might be Spicer for you) that didn't overpower the rest of the dish. Absolutely loved it. The waitress was friendly and attentive as well. I appreciate that. So despite the fact that this place does look very old and lacking ambience wise, I still find the food to be extremely good. read more

We were passing through Minneapolis and decided to try this place. My first impression was that their focus was entirely on the food. Nothing fancy is happening here until the food arrives. We had the samosas, naan, Hyderabad chicken biriani. It all tasted great. The prices were reasonable too. Don't worry about the ambiance. The food is clearly what they are thinking about. The place is located in an extremely busy strip area but parking is always available. The outside is not much to look at but looks can be deceiving so gave this place a try. Looks like it is South Indian focused food. The inside seating area is not much. Very cramped and for the most part, the tables were wobbly, the chairs had cushion torn and the floors were sticky. Dared going to the rest room to wash hands and needless to say that entire space could use some love & care. The server brought out incorrect orders for us twice within this one visit and we did not order that much. The water is served in Styrofoam cups from a water pitcher that has seen better days so we opted to grab the water bottles. Now for the food - the food was not bad at all besides the chicken samosa, that could have used a little oomph. The food was fresh and piping hot. The portion sizes were very generous. There was a lot of foot traffic into the shop and looks like this place is used for mostly take outs and rightfully so also. And we might just do that going forward. read more

I had tried this place in 2014 when I used to work in Minnetonka. We have had almost all the non veg dishes. The Chilli chicken curry was a hit with me and my wife. But now working San Francisco Bay area I miss the place and its food. Can you kindly share the recipe of this dish :D. The vegetable samosas are pretty good. The vegetable biryani leaves a lot to be desired. For starters, the vegetables are chopped too large for me. I order mostly takeout from here because they always have great online deals. The mango lassi might be very popular here because they run out often. The one time I did get it, it spilt all over my order so I blame the restaurant and driver for that one; it wasn't packaged well enough. read more

The food was good but the general vibe and cleanliness of the place was not. Place is a little ominous with basically a warning sign that people get sick from here, spiderwebs, everything looks beat to hell and back, and the restaurant name just exists on taped-up regular printer paper. They also had a sign on how to clean up vomit. That being said, nobody from my group is sick yet (it's been a few hours) and the food really was good. Kabob's Indian Grill is a legit Indian restaurant in Bloomington. There are a handful of tables in the small nondescript dining room. Goat Curry has small pieces of goat meat on the bone. Goat is more tender than lamb, and the meat here is juicy and succulent. The curry is rich, flavorful, and a bit spicy. Spoonfuls of the curry and meat can cover the basmati rice. Tear off some naan and make mini tacos with the rice and curry. Cauliflower florets are fried with a red, crispy, spicy crust. They look like flaming hot Cheetos, but on top of being crispy, they are warm and soft on the inside. Sip on a thick mango lassi to balance the spices. read more

By far without a doubt the worst indian food I have ever ordered in my entire life. The vegetable biryani I got for my girlfriend was so spicy I couldn't even eat it. 90 percent of the food I eat ends up with my nose running, eyes red, and puts a smile on my masochistic face. This did not it was inedible. The vegetable biryani also had zero vegetables in it. Im talking one piece of carrot, two pieces of potato, and some freaking peas. It was not only inedibley hot but a 13 dollar container of rice. My chicken tikka masala? Literally 8 pieces of rock hard chicken. I tried cutting it and literally had to mash it to get it apart. The sauce it came in was flavorless and runny. It came with a container of plain white rice in a chinese food container. This entire experience was unacceptable. I don't know if it is because we ordered fairly late (after 8) but it couldn't have been worse. It all ended in the trash, just like this place is. It is trash. Edit: After doing some research I guess this place is under new ownership. Most recent reviews are abysmal except a throwaway accounts. They post 5 star reviews that sounds more like an advertisement than an actual review. They must know how bad things are if they are reviewing their own restaurant. read more

Three stars is not a bad review in my book. Kabob's has a couple solid dishes and a few duds. With a name like "Kabob's" you wouldn't expect it be a South Indian-focused menu. The channa masala ($10) and fried eggplant curry ($10) were both good and vegan by default---not too salty or oily and not overcooked. The masala dosa ($11) is vegan by default, and fine, but didn't wow me. That said, take-out dosas are rarely great. The parotta with veg salna ($12) is vegan by default and a rare dish to see. I thought the parotta was too thick and not flaky enough; the salna (which is essentially a vegetable curry) tasted okay, but was salty. The veg kothu parotta ($12) is hard to find and most commonly seen on Sri Lankan and some South Indian restaurant menus. Here it was so salty as to be inedible. I gave up after a few bites. The tandoori roti ($4) is better than the chapathi ($4), but both were fine. The restaurant uses a ton of styrofoam and additionally wraps all its take-out orders in saran wrap, wastefully and without need. That irked me. Lastly, I also ordered a baby corn manchurian ($11), but the dish was unavailable. I had a few weeks of going back and forth with the restaurant and Menufy (the site they use for online ordering) before the refund actually got processed. That was a hassle and unnecessarily complex, but the restaurant did finally get it resolved. read more

I was really surprised with quality of food. After the change in management and with new chef in things dramatically changed. I have ordered ambur spicy chicken biryani it was delicious with proper quantity and tender meat. Looking for Haleem during Ramadan season don't look any further than this restaurant. A proper authentic Hyderabadi Haleem is what you get. Proper use of flavor's seasoning; properly minced meat beaten couldn't get any better. I would recommend this particular dish. This place is more of a home-coming every time for me and my wife. We bring in our relatives and friends from other states to here, whenever they visit us. I'm a vegetarian so I've limited knowledge only to the vegetarian items. The Veg Ambur Biryani, Veg Kothu Parotta, Sambar vadai and Appam with Veg Stew are some of the signature dishes at this place and the staff (people who wait the tables and the talented chefs) are the gems that adorn this little place. I always wish that they improve their serving time and expand the size of the restaurant so that more people can sit more comfortably and the wait time is made little. Nevertheless, this place is a must to visit if you are at the Twin Cities. read more

When you think hole in the wall it's truly a hole in the wall with maybe 6 tables set tightly next to each other. I'm sure with covid they have to take all 6 tables out. Alright this is not your usual Indian food cuisine. This is a mesh between Chinese food and Indian food. Not saturated with herbs and when they say spicy, it's spicy!! Lol. Their naans are fresh and delicious. The basmatti rice is also delicious . A favorite place to go to for some dam good food. I gave it a 4 star because this place deserves a bigger restaurant. Also hire more staff with actual customer service skills.. they get kinda annoy if you don't know what you want. I guess maybe they have so many return customers who always order the same stuff.. On the 25th of April, I walked in and ordered lamb kabob. I went ahead and paid for my order which cost me a total of $16.12 It was prepared and packed nicely for my takeaway. While driving, I decided to nibble. The first piece was very salty . The second piece was as hard as a rock. They not only dumped salt on it , it was extremely spicy and badly burned. I called and let them know I was returning it because it's not what I ordered. They started calling and asking if they could make me chicken instead. I told them I wanted lamb and not chicken. We agreed to get my refund. He printed a piece of paper telling me he had given me my refund. Until yesterday I hadn't received my refund. I checked my account there's no refund. I called them again and let them know I still haven't received my refund. I got there and the young lady was standing and smiling at me like it was so funny. She finally gave me my refund. Outside was a gentleman who's also a business owner in the shopping center. I asked him if he knows a good place I can get good kabobs. It's certainly difficult to good Indian restaurants on foreign land but Kabob's didn't fail to surprise me. It's a small establishment in Minneapolis run by Tamilians. I tried buttermilk, Gobhi Machurian (yes, they had this on the menu), Chicken 65 (no idea why they have 65 in the name, none of my friends knew), Idli 14 (14 small Idlies soaked in sambhar) and Ambur Spicy Chicken Biryani. I am always searching for high quality food in low quality real estate. I figure that at any fancy restaurant I'm paying an extra for decor, and any high traffic area paying extra for rent. I enjoyed the dishes I got here, including the Chili Chicken Curry - medium spicy tender pieces of boneless chicken cooked in red chili sauce. It seems to be a little different style of Indian food than you normally find, and it's refreshing to find something besides the regular Tika Masala restaurants. They really need to take all those signs out of the window though, and put in some blinds. I totally forgot to pay my bill and walked half way down the strip mall before the proprietor caught up with me and asked me to pay, embarrassing, I had to give an extra tip for that. read more

Day 3 in Minneapolis and I wanted Indian Food again. After using my Iphone yelp app again, it led me to the same strip mall where India Cafe was located. I was dumbfounded that I didn't notice this place the first time. :( Anyhow... The food better and cheaper than India Cafe. The Vege Samosa's were hand made!!! Not the ones made off of a Chinese food assembly line. The naan was freshly made in front of me while I waited!! The Butter Chicken was thick and creamy and had a nice full flavor. They only small downside was the chicken in the curry was a little dry. This is home cooked quality food! I was really surprised to find such nom nom Indian food here in the Midwest. The only reason why I cannot give this place 5 stars is because of the dining environment. had the same ambiance of a office break room. They serve a 15 dollar kabab entree on a tiny plastic plate. I wouldn't complain if that was even fresh. The lamb boti kabab tasted like it was cooked and refrigerated a week ago. It was barely even reheated. The naan that comes along with the kabab appeared 25 mins after the kabab was served. The biryani also appreared to be re heated. I still doynt understand why i had to wait 45 minutes for them to re heat my food Oh, did i tell you that you will be charged as if you are at a regular restaurant and be served with plastic cups and plates. Bill for 3 person was 54 dollars for all that. We barely ate 40 percent of our food, yes it was that bad. To the owner of this shithole: Please spend this money for another microwave, so the next customer wont have to wait this long while you "re heat" their food. Kabobs is a non fancy small Indian restaurant with the some really good flavors. The resturant is small with limited seating.This place usually get crowded in the evening. We had thalapakkati chicken biriyani and ambur mutton biriyani which is the new addition to the menu.Bot dishes got lot of flavours and it was so delicious .Mutton is cooked to the perfection and the rice also got lot of meat flavors. That makes it different from the rice and curry mixed biriyani from the other indian restaurant. The biriyani is spicy ,so specify the spice level when you order .Only thing I felt was it is too dry .Could have been a bit more moist with the meat flavors. The other special thing is the Kothu porotta ,that is unique to this restaurant. It is very tasty and the quantity also suffice for two . All together a nice experience.I will definitely visit again. read more

Kabob's is a take-out place, though you can eat in if divey ethnic greasy spoons are your cup of Malasa Chai. Come at mealtimes and witness a steady stream of subcontinental diners grab their meal and dash. What's good? Every blessed thing. Come for lunch and they have veg and non-veg Thalia. Overall, the spices and the masalas here put the average Indian restaurant to shame. They are particularly known for their Biriyani, and I have a suspicion they might be from Chettinad, so you can try any dish that bears said geographical appellation. Or the Chicken 65 series, a stir-fry that glows red with chili and deliciousness. They do great Indo-Chinese (Gobi Manchurian etc), which tastes like General Tso's Chicken had a midlife crisis and fled to an Indian ashram to eat pray love and absorb the most delicious spices. You could even get (shock) kebabs, and you should because they are moist and flavorful and make you a better person. Seriously I could go on, in years of going their daals, dahi vada, even stereotypical tikka have all been joyful. We had an egg curry last time that was so amazing I nearly cried, perhaps because fenugreek brings out the emotion in all of us. Or perhaps not. No matter. Food is tasty. Its more of a takeout place though than to eat there. The ambience is not that good. But the staff is very friendly. Their portions are huge. Certainly more for 1 person. I try very hard to give this place more business, but they keep messing it up. A month ago, I took my family that was visiting from India to this place, as everyone wanted South Indian. We were a group of 10. We were seated promptly and the order was taken promptly, but those were the only good parts. The food order took forever to arrive. After pushing the lead guy in charge, we started getting food, but they had lost a few items along the way. It made for a real bad experience. The food, however was good. I took my uncle and Aunt there yesterday. We ordered Pongal, but at 12:30 they were already "out of pongal". This time there was 5 of us, but the story was the same. I called the restaurant and they said 15 minutes until it was ready. So, finally after driver #4 showed up my food was ready (not sure what happened to #3). I ordered tandoori chicken, 2 orders of garlic naan and chicken tikki masala. I received 3 pieces of naan; sooooo a single order is 1.5 pieces? Highly doubt it. We received a small container of rice for what I'm guessing was for the masala. No idea why the tandoori didn't come with rice; every other Indian restaurant has rice with every dish. Kabob's has some of the best chicken 65 in the twin cities. I've tried at several different Indian restaurants but this place keeps bringing me back. You can request for the chicken 65 to come dry or with sauce. I personally enjoy mine with sauce just so I can eat it with rice because the sauce is full of flavor, spicy and creamy. The quality is top notch for a small grill and this is as authentic as you can get. I've also had the chicken curry before and it's delicious. You can request for it to be spicy. Don't be afraid to try something different each time you visit this place, I am sure everything taste good. Side note: This place does make everything fresh so it does take a bit of time to have your food ready. If you are on a time crunch or planning to go during your lunch break I would recommend you to call and order in advance. Having had my past cravings being crushed by the reality of restaurant I shall not name in uptown, I reached out to my friend in this hour of need. She suggested this place.
