Talk about a hidden gem! I walked past the entrance to this quirky little place when I was invited to meet a friend there a while back!
The first reason that I liked the sound of this bar was its name; it made me think of the 1920 classic horror movie 'The Cabinet of Dr Caligari'. Maybe that was indeed the inspiration for this subterranean drinking den, situated as is it in a Victorian former children's hospital. It's certainly got a hint of the macabre about it...but in the nicest possible way.
The lighting is moody and the chairs are comfy, the cocktails are quirky and the cheese and meat platters are delicious.
I can see this place becoming a very popular hang out for arty types and drama students. And I'm sure Dr Caligari would approve of that. read more
