A great pub to have a quiet drink with friends or enjoy a lovely meal, the food is superb, and they don't charge rediculess prices. Staff are friendly and welcoming, highly recommended.

The Town Crier sits directly opposite Chester Rail Station and is probably about 10 minutes walk…read moreout of the main city centre. The place itself is actually quite large, and has one of Chester's few city centre beer gardens which makes it quite attractive on a nice day. The garden area is perfectly fine, but it's not anything spectacular - just the usual outdoor pub tables setup. The food here is surprisingly good and cheap - and this is a great place to grab a last minute bite to eat before you board a train. Convenience is king here - it won't blow you away in any regard, but it's a great location for the train station. The clientelle tend to be fairly quiet and sedate which is absolutely fine - not at all intimidating unlike some pubs next to train stations.

I have been coming here for years...mainly as I await my connecting train as its literally a hop…read moreacross the road from the station. It has very Wetherspoonsy vibes to it without the dirt cheap price tag with a decent sized beer garden at the back. My last visit here was back in March where I chose to wait here for a friend. We decided to get a cocktail each and a couple of small plates to share as we were going swimming shortly. The bar lady made us the worst Long Island ice tea that has ever touched my lips and said they were out of straws. When the concoction arrived at the table I asked for a spoon and a bowl to fish out the ice so I could drink it without getting knocked out by the icecubes. When I ordered the small plates (x5 for £10 I think? She asked me if I was aware that the jalapeño mozzarella sticks contained jalapeños..I said I would be disappointed if they didn't. Other nibbles included chicken wings, squid, chicken goujons and nachos. To be fair it was all okay. Overall a ideal place to come while you wait for the train but the service can make you feel part of a pantomime sometimes!
